Sneak and lock picking skills shouldn't of been in game

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:18 am

There is no point to them whatsoever. Lock picking is easy, even with master locks, sneaking feels cheap when you get the perks. Plus when I'm picking locks in dungeons, I really don't want it to level my character up. I honestly cannot see any reason why they added these skills in apart from just making it look like there is more choice.

You're kidding right? Stealth has been a staple of the series since the beginning. Take that out and you lose half of the useful builds in the game. That's craziness.

Then don't sneak or pick locks.

oh my, RPG elements in a "dumbed down action adventure gam". We can't have that!

I mean the whole skill points and perks thing. Lockpicking and sneak should be in the game just not the skills.

Let's take out armor skills and a couple more schools of magic, too. I never liked Illusion or Light Armor anyway. <_<

It's very funny how they remove a lot of useless skills, then introduce this horrible lockpicking system, and then make the whole skill useless in the process.

Something is not right when I can unlock a master chest with 10-15 lockpicks when my lockpicking is 17.

Which is why you shouldn't even be able to open locks unless you have the level. Just my opinion though.

This is what I mean, why add all that stuff when it's just easy without it. Sneak is silly too, it becomes way overpowered. It would of just been better having sneak and lockpicking in but without the other stuff. It's pointless anyway. I can pick master locks which no problem at all. Why do I need to level the skill up?

Lockpicking does have some [censored] perks like, wax key and quick hands, theres never a situation where those are viable, so i didnt get them. The real reason i like lockpicking or chose lockpicking is because of the Golden touch perk (Gives more gold loot from lootables) and Treasure hunter (you have a 50% increased chance to find very nice treasures)
Sneak on the other hand is definately one of the best perks in game, it gives it a more realistic approach instead of the usual run in and chop people up/ or get chopped up.

The perks for sneak are mainly for an assassin, so if thats not ur type then u chose the wrong skill.

Like in Fallout 3, if you needed to pick a lock you needed a certain skill number before you could. Like if you tried to pick a lock it would say for master need 75 lockpick points. Or something like that.

I don't think we should have any level's in this or skills or stuff like inventory and dialogue we should have regenerating health and shields and we have weapons we pick up from the ground and flying horses that shoot exploding arrows.

Sneak is silly too, it becomes way overpowered.

Smithing, Enchanting, Illusion and Conjuration become overpowered too. Let's remove them. Hell, let's remove all skills, only then can we be sure that nothing is useless or overpowered.

Now please explain to me how I'm supposed to create an assassin without Sneak.

Sneak is not overpowered against other NPCs with high sneak. I have the entire tree maxed out and still can't get close to Thalmor or Forsworn unless it is pitch black and I'm coming from out their line of sight. Without sneak, as I already said, you take away a vast amount of builds. No thieves. No assassins. No rouges at all.

Lockpicking is just dumb because they implemented the FO3 system without the one important thing about it. That being that you can't even attempt a lock that is over your skill level. Hence, there's no reason to level it.

I hope you're right about sneak, Cap. I was very disappointed when I was running circles behind a bandit without being noticed, I was only in my 50s in sneak. Muffle makes things even worse.

It's and RPG, and they have a use. I don't plan on opening locked chests with a warrior or mage, just because it doesn't fit on the character. I will just ignore them.

I hate it when people write should of, would of etc., instead of have -.-

On topic, there is a point to both lockpicking and sneaking. Lockpicking lets you open locked chests and whatnot, whilst sneaking lets you remain undetected.

I'll admit sneaking levels up too fast though, especially considering successful sneak attacks adds to sneak.

I wouldn't say it doesn't fit the character, just lack of choice. A mage could easily cast a open lock spell but there isn't one and a warrior could just bash the chest open, yet no option for that either.

Very much am. And I'm wearing muffled boots on top of that. Go west and find some Forsworn and try to sneak by them and you'll see what I mean. Most every other thing I can sneak right up to so long as it isn't daylight but the Thalmor and high level Forsworn pick you out easily if you get in their line of sight no matter how dark it is it seems.

If they removed lockpicking as a character skill (as opposed to player mini-game), could I have my Open spell back? Sneaking, on the other hand, is fun.
