Sneak AI issues

Post » Sun Jun 12, 2011 5:03 pm

I've seen quite a few people complaining that the second bandit in the demo didn't react very well to his partner dying. However, some have made the "state of disbelief" argument.

So, your opinions on that?

He should have started patroling right after his bandit friend died. But he was probably shocked.

Not sure, stealth was broken, we saw it came on again after both was killed.
Quiet possible stealth was not completely broken, he went into the search mode as in Fallout 3, he knew they was under attack but had not found you yet. Apparently he draws his sword.

The problem is that he stand still, in Oblivion the other NPC will start running around if you kill one in their group,( they might even attack nearby deer as they aggression is boosted). Now running around if you are under attack is pretty smart as you become harder to hit.

However we don’t know he might stand still as he would cast spells on you then he located you. He might be confused, it might be an AI issue.

It made sense, he was stunned by the lack of Argonians in the demo.

I think its like it was in oblivion where if u get 75 and above in sneak then u can pick ppl off right next to eatchother as long as ur in a shadow..i would like for the AI to react at the least and i'll be happy to be honest..the demo definately made me think that they are still working on the sneaking part of the game

If the AI is really as smart as many would think it might be a reason as easy shocked, but add the element that the dude knew he was boned because, 1 it was dark in there and, 2 he was facing a light source (so his night sight was screwed) and, 3 he didnt know how many others there might be, making standing dead still a real option for staying alive ??? just throwing that out there. :)

I have trouble seeing expressions on ppl's faces too when they are across the room and they have their backs to me (sarcasm)
Or did u mean in his body movement u didnt see any reaction? Cuz apperently he drew his sword

I think they should frenzy, much like how the Mother Deathclaw reacts when you kill a baby deathclaw. I understand NV was not developed by Bethesda, but good idea.

LOL @ the "shock" argument. Some of you guys are really in denial. It was bad AI.

Whatever the problem was, I'm sure Bethesda will fix it before release.

I can understand him being shocked and taking a second to react, (he shouldn't just dive for cover with cat like reflexes) but he stood there for roughly 4 seconds looking in one direction.
Not very convincing AI in my book.

Neither in my book.

To Bethesda: fix it.

You dive for cover when arrows start flying, then you try and locate where they are coming from. Period. Especially if you are someone who has experience fighting like, hmmm i dunno, a bandit.

Bethesda should fix this

The only thing that disappointed me from any gameplay shown. Horrific.

Do we know what Todd's Sneak level was?

Or maybe there's a perk that makes witnesses of a kill pause in disbelief for a moment, giving the player a chance to silence them?

This poll neglects the fact that the slow motion perk was activated, which slows down time whever the player takes aim with the bow.

If you watch the flames, it's pretty obvious. Who knows how the AI might have reacted given a normal span of time.

Oblivion had this problem, as did both Fallout games using the same engine. All of these games also have mods that attempt to fix this problem and do a decent job at it.

It is apparently not very hard to fix, and it needs to be. I'd hope that if they can get flying dragon AI to work as well as it appears to, that they could also get AI to not give up on searching for a threat in a few seconds that just killed some one in the same faction group a meter away from them.

I didn't like it. If you're standing talking with somebody, and they fall over and die, and if the only way to your camp is a single area, he should have turned, saw the PC and rushed him, granted, he still probably would have gotten an arrow in him, but it's better than squatting like your taking a dump/

Well, it seems that everybody has forgotten the AI in Oblivion.
Bandit 1: How are you?
Bandit 2: I saw some mudcra- ugh! *arrow hits*
Bandit 1 immediately walks away like nothing happened.

So don't even start with this.
