Sneaking overhaul/AI behaviour during sneaking

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 3:12 pm

Hmm i wonder that you alll can sneak up your enemys and they don't detect you. Bandits even find me if i am invisible. Only if i use a "You can sneak on highest level now" Spell they MIGHT not find me. So i think the AI in my game is better (gods) then in your game :D

Sneaking in dungeons may be broken, but sneaking outdoors at night is fine. It is possible for assassins to spot me despite being far away. They are definitely not as easy to sneak up on.

eh so? the whole point about thief/assassin is: noone notices you EVER.
as assassin... you should wait till everyone is asleep or just one there, kill and dispose the corpse. then move on to the next guy, when a patrol guy comes around the corner and sees the blood, ok now he wonder, but the assassins just kills and goes on again. the same applies to a thief, but instead of killing he steals.

what I talk about is when you already blow your cover. when the assassin attacks and DO NOT kill... shall the victim forget about the attack just few seconds later? no. Its ridiculous... the "bandits" see their dead comrade, they see the arrow in the neck, the lots of blood and they just go "ah poor bob, he always were sucidal"... yes you should be able to go into hiding again when you just were "too loud"... but its completely different when a lot of blood is the proof of your presence.

I was really hoping for a few quests like that: You must infiltrate a heavily guarded place, and kill guards patrolling the area (or sneak around them) as you slowly advance to your main target.

And as a few others have stated, the Hitman games have decent AI; they actually react to finding dead bodies and stay on alert for quite some time (sometimes for the rest of the mission). Of course those games are dated, and the AI can still be easily manipulated, but I don't see why Bethesda wouldn't be able to improve AI in that area: to make them be alerted for several minutes after hearing a noise, getting hurt by the player, or finding a dead body.

Assassin's Creed

You don't really sneak in AC, you just avoid.

Far Cry 2 Stealth!

Once you get what it's about it's basically the most enjoyable stealth play I have ever had. Once the NPCs agro, they simply won't de-aggro until reset/respawn. It's all about killing as many as you can until the alarm sounds. After that it's good old fashioned gunplay. But if you play your cards right, you either manage a full ghosting of an enemy camp, or at least when your cover is blown, the enemy will be weakened by a few men... hopefully the snipers in the towers and outer perimeter patrols.

The Stealth play in TES doesn't really bother me much, the way the AI reacts to it does alot though. Taking hints from Far Cry 2, i'd say keep the current system, but make the AI react more like the ones above, if alarmed, they bring the entire camp on full alert for 2 in game hours or so and perform patrol sweeps around the dunegon/camp/whatever.

If you couple that with a "save only on resting" philosophy to prevent going for the load game after alarm and just do you best and live with whatever you pulled off is quite enjoyable.

There is at least one quest in Skyrim where you do. I can't remember it now but it's basically "quietly infiltrate a fort and kill everyone without being noticed".

My warhammer weilding Orc muffed it in the first kill! Unofrtunately there were no repurcussions for this, I just went on in, warhammer ablazin' and wiped them all out.

Well, the actual purpose of the game is to be an assassin - blending in with your surroundings, and remain undetected from your targets.... or did I really misunderstand the game?

Right now "sneaking" is too overpowered, or at least the way how the AI reacts to it. I mean... you go into sneaking in the FRONT of a shopkeeper, move behind and steal or murder, noone notices (in Oblivion the npc turned his head and was watching you closely all the time)...

I was sneaking in Skyrim just last night, and an NPC kept turning and turning and turning to face me. I don't think sneaking is overpowered.

There was sneaking in Morrowind.... and yes the enemy AI could be better.
