Sniper opportunities

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2016 2:28 pm

So my new "hobby" as it were, is to jetpack up to a high, normally unreachable rooftop, then climb out of my PA. From there I try to snipe stuff with my .50 then I fly off to a different rooftop and repeat. Doing my bit for the BOS and all that.

Problem is though there's not that much to shoot at. Infact hardly anything at all after a while. My suggestion is instead of enemy's being entirely static, I.e stuck to one location, let's have wondering party's of supermutants and raiders. Not together. Obviously.

Just have gangs of enemies walking about. If this is already a thing then I have very obviously missed it.

I just needz the pink mist :sadvaultboy:

There are some that you'll find occasionally. There aren't a lot of them, but sometimes you'll encounter a random group of super mutants, gunners, raiders, or whoever just wandering around somewhere. There are some semi-scripted locations where these random encounters occur more frequently, so if you see a random encounter like this somewhere, visit that place again and there's a good chance you'll have another random encounter there.

I feel like most of the encounters are triggered by entering an area via foot (or quick travel). Might be flying around isn't triggering all the random events you would normally get via walking. Flying around in Vertibird sorta has the same problem... nothing to really mow down with the mini-gun (not that its the best mechanic in the game)

yeah, sniping from tall buildings, u run out of targets quick! Too few good sight windows.

I personally like to snipe all the Raiders at Corvega from a concealed place. at least you know you will get about 10 targets!

The valley East of the start location (there's two settlements near it too) there's a ridge with a bridge and below are train tracks. Had a few roaming ghoul gangs pass through there and had a snipe spree

Well I'm gunna try some of these locations suggested. I still find it somewhat strange however the sole survivor is seemingly the only person in the entire wasteland capable of using sniper tactics.

Now obviously I don't expect the base animal cunning of the supermutant to put together any kind of tangible 'plan' as it were, the mere fact they remember to breathe in and out surprises me to be frank. Nor do I expect the shakey, Chem addled hands of a raider to produce 'sniper' worthy shots. The gunners however, well, we all know they can be [censored] dangerous. We have gunner conscripts, sergeants, private etc. Why not a gunner marksman or sharpshooter? Now I know spotting mines or docile feral ghouls is a simple case of spamming V.A.T.S but what if your perception was lower than their agility or something and couldn't spot them? All the ruined buildings just seem the perfect place for deadly sniper battles for me. Sprinting from cover to cover, trying to figure out where that shot come from. Also I think Bethesda did a awesome job with the bullet ricochet and whizzing noises. I appreciate little details like that.

There are bunches of wandering enemies that can spawn about. I don't know how many times I ran into super mutants escorting a prisoner or just bands of raiders popping out of nowhere. Gunner camps have snipers if you're looking to get shot at by snipers... Also (at least it seems to be,) you'll get more enemy spawns the higher level you are. In the beginning of the game it didn't seem like I ran into many enemies at all. Now, I can't run anywhere without bumping into a bunch of stuff.

I spend a lot of my time going from vantage point to vantage point sniping baddies. It's like my favorite thing to do. Tops of the highest buildings aren't usually great locations for this. And I haven't found respawning places for this so once I clear them out that's pretty much it. Greenetech Genetics is one good roof that gives you access to the Raiders near the bridge below and you can get the Gunners on the bridge from the top of the Saugus Ironworks.

Actually, come to think of it. I have one save at Warwick homestead where I'm at the top of a guard tower and

Spoiler
the raider opposite on the big ship is sat down, I can never get him in one shot though.

Edit - damnit, posting spoiler things on a phone is hard, is there a page somewhere with all the spoiler, link, emotions things typed out so I can just copy em?

The modders fixed this in Skyrim by adding roaming groups and warzones. I imagine they'll do the same for Fallout.
