Sniper rifle vs SMG

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 11:27 am

Drognov light rifle with red dot sight for me. Not for sniping, but for overall medium-long range high damage output. Like a Railgun in MNC or Quake.

I'd have a Machine Pistol with extended clip and something to keep recoil low and accuracy high, for long bursts of lead at anyone getting too close to me.

Lol. It's funny because it's almost true. So many people own guns here we could have our own militia.

I would say SMG, never was really a rifle kind of guy. Plus if so mant Lights will use rifles then I'll need an SMG to finish the job.

I will have to mess with both before making the final load out decision.. Mostly to check out accuracy when feathering the trigger, effective ranges and over all damage..

Hell I haven't even figured out what class I'm going to start with yet and I only have 50 some odd days to figure it out..

Seems we think a lot alike.

I've always had the fancy of holding an smg with a big drum mag and mowing the enemy down. Of course I would be smoking a cigar and laughing like the Heavy from TF2.

You may want to grip that to maximize the accuracy of the spray.

depends how much you intend to move around. If you're moving a lot, take the SMG, if not, take the rifle.

I don't think many are taking the vertical aspect into consideration. Lights can move to higher places, faster, so rifles might be better.

Not necessarily true, my dear forum goer!
They may be able to mover faster and higher against other body types. BUUUUT A light v light; one with rifle, one with SMG...SMG's are more versatile and mobile than the rifle, plus the rifle weighs more therefore slowing the first light down more.

Are we 1. sure that short rifles will weigh more than smgs and 2. sure that slight weight differences in weapons will slow us down? I haven't read everything out there so I don't know what all the details are on the subject. I hope if that is the case that weight corresponds to all the weight we are carrying and not just the gun we have equipped. I always hate the guys that think that even though they are carrying an LMG and an RPG they should move fast because they have a grenade equipped.

Another question, do we know if we will or won't be able to carry a pistol as a main with a pistol as a sidearm? Seems kind of stupid if we can't.

I reserve the right to be wrong, that is why I put in the "necessarily".
But I would like to think that because of the damage of the gun it would be more solid than a SMG which would be a light type of metal

If i'm going light i will be using my agility to my advantage. I dont think i'd be able to put as many shots on a target with a semi auto rifle if i'm shooting in the middle of a slide after wall running to leap over a 6 foot high wall.

The SMG's manouverability coupled with its bullet spread will be the gun for my light classes!

Definately SMG in my opinion, for a lot of reasons.
1. The Rate of Fire is greater than any gun in the game, allowing you to quickly hop onto rooftops and fill someone up with bullets before they know what's going on
2. The damage from close up is fantastic, and seeing as the maps are all small, and Lights are used for flanking, you shouldn't fire until you're close anyway, where the RoF and DpS is going to kill everything
3. The amount of people other than Lights who will use SMGs as secondary weapons will give you a lot of ammo

True but you need to get a lot closer to use an SMG. Danger increases with proximity.

Last I checked weapons won't slow you down. Unless they are heavily modified.

And that's why having a lightly modified pistol is a good backup. ^_^

Danger increases with proximity.

It seems a tad more complex than that, at ranges where enemy spread is smaller than your body, it makes more sense to be closer in, so that they have to move their sight more and re-aim more often because of you running circles round them, also when you cover weave, at shorter ranges they have a larger area of the screen to watch for places you could come out.

Personally, I'm much better at predicting movement and dogding than I am at aiming, so I tend to go for short range battles.

At longer ranges the bullets spread more so you'll get hit less and if your using a more accurate weapon you'll have no problem fighting back.

I'll probably end up using my CARB-9 as a secondary, only pulling it out with the [censored] truly hits the fan. Beyond that, I'll be running around with the Hockler, leaping and backstabbing my way to victory while avoiding any and all confrontation that doesn't give me a massive tactical advantage.

Well if that's the case, then I don't see why anybody is too worried about weight.

I'd still like to know if I could run with a pistol as my main and another one as my backup, but for now I'll still be going short rifle.

Pretty sure weapons don't have an effect on movement speed whatsoever. Pimping them out doesn't slow you down either, it only slows down the draw speed (how long it takes you to put away/take out the weapon). Although I assume that there are attachments that can increase that stat as well. I believe assault rifles and SMG's get a gun sling. Not sure about pistols and other weapons, but I'd bet money that they get something too.

Are you suggesting that if I walk up behind a guy and try to use my knife it just won't allow me to?

No, I was assuming he was talking about the ability backstab, which has been removed. Doesn't mean you can't walk up behind someone and stab them. Should have made it a little clearer for other people to understand I guess.
