Sniper rifle vs SMG

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 3:23 pm

Since most people seem inclined towards the light which do you think will better suit your playstyle?

As for me I will be using the rifles, since I have less health I would rather keep my enemies at range until they are wounded and move in for the kill. Also since I will have a machine pistol and knife secondary I will be good in close range as well.

Depending on the application, for yours my highness, Snooper rifles are good, but for someone sneaking behind the lines, a SMG will be recommended but since you have a Machine pistol, you don't need to worry.

It's like the best of both worlds

Being a fan of firing as little in the way of ammo as I can manage, short rifle and a pistol.

No doubt I'll have one of my 16 running with an SMG, maybe more, but probably not my first.

SMGs and Light Rifles will only be in my secondary setups. Edit: My third char will most likely end up 'Lightspeed' spec. I mainly play Heavy characters.

As for attachments and preferred gun spec?
For SMG, an ACOG for less recoil when scoped in, and more range. (A little something I picked up from playing CoD:BO)
For Light Rifle, something slow, loud, and short on clip size with a medium scope. Ive got great aim, so I want the rifle with the most firepower.

Light rifle with grip, silencer, duct tape magazines, and the COGA scope. ^_^ Sniper that can fight mid range as well. Good for weakening enemies or straight killng to defend myself when I try to revive my team. ^_^

So the bolt action Barrett and the pistol can be a regular semi auto or revolver based on your description.

Not an auto but I can pull the trigger really fast and usually gives me an advantage.

Something like the Garand or it's Nazi equivalent from W:ET. High damage, high rate of semi-auto fire. Similar to the FAL from Black Ops.

Awesome. My other treasures are a Colt Official Police almost mint (also called the Commando) and a Walther P38 P1 (awesome condition).
Both given to me by my grandfather.

Edit: I forgot to mention my Dragunov has been modified to accept banana magazines, even though its still semi-auto. (Reasons go back to costs)
(Where I live, they are illegal)

It's not a Barrett. In fact, it's not even based on the Barrett, or will look anything like it. It's based on the SR-93. Once again, I'll say that the only reference to the Barrett was made when the devs said they used it for sound production and that it said "It sounded like God coughing, because it was just so loud".

Honestly, if you, you have two choices. SMG, or a Short rifle. If you plan on rushing, go with an SMG unless you plan on being able to use the faster firing short rifle, but then you better be able to make those shots count. If you prefer a slower playstyle, you probably shouldn't be using a light in the first place. Lights are meant to move fast (which is their main advantage, so not using that is detrimental).

1. I was commenting one what that person said. I never said which light rilfe I was personally going to use.
2. Your rushing idea isn't great since lights have low health and would be shot down pretty fast (reference to the orange)
3. My personal preference is the light rifle because of it's semi auto and accuracy so making shots count won't be hard (reference to red)
4. Ever heard of hit and run? I could run around, pop a few accurate shots and keep running. Also, I can use whatever body size I want. Just because i'm light doesn't mean I have to constantly move. Maybe I just like how high they can jump in one leap.....(reference to green)

SMG for me. I almost always prefer them over assault rifles anyway. I like the mobility and versatility. Plus I'm a run 'n gunner. Quite good at it too.

I know a few pros who would argue heavily against the two outlined opinions.

You might as well go with a Noveske, LMT, or a custom build. it will run you about the same amount, but they are better rifles. Barrett is better for their snipers, their AR is a little over priced, unless you are getting the upper and making your own lower.

I don't need something better because it's mainly a "you try to break into my house and your going to die" kind of thing. ^_^ 1 shot with a REC7 will be fine. In Texas, as long as they come into your house, you can unload as much ammo as you want on them. Comes off  I know but i'm speaking the truth withought sugar coating it is all.
