Sniper Rifles----Laser VS. 50 Cal VS. Laser Musket.

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 9:47 pm

What are the differences between the Laser Sniper Rifle, 50. Cal Sniper Rifle and Laser Musket (besides the obvious differences, energy weapon vs. ballistics weapon). Is one better than the other or is it a matter of preference or situation. Does one have more base recoil or something like that.

I carry a Hunting rifle with night vision that I use only at night, I don't like the night vision durning the day. I also have a laser sniper and a 50 Cal with the recon scope. I prefer the 50 cal but I will use the laser just to keep ammo usage down on all types. Nothing like sighting in on a target far away, holding your breath and getting the perfect head shot from hidden to double the damage and watching them collasp to the ground while all thier friends scurry around trying to figure where the shot came form :)

i prefer the laser rifle modded to a sniper rifle. Its damage output is very good (if you invest in gun nut and science) but has such a high rate of fire, i feel it dominates over the others. mine holds 9 rounds in a semi auto fairly fast firing gun. The sniper rifle is bolt action, sooooo slow. And the muskent has to be cranked. I do like the musket, as you can control how much power it has, by how many cranks you do. I do prefer energy weapons, but the DPS from a laser rifle far dominates anything else that i have found so far, IMO

Dmg wise I suspect a six crank musket wins when fully cranked, but of course it uses six units of ammo per shot, so its a ammo hog, another factor is of course armour resistance, some foes have high ballistic defense or high energy defence (or a weaker balance of both) so it also matters what ya shooting at.

That's not an issue since six units of ammo does six time the damage. Moreover sneak shot does double the damage (with perks more) so musket have potential to deal massive damage in a single shot surpassing all other guns. Slow rate of fire is not an issue if you are using it as a proper sniper rifle. If you want to use your sniper rifle more tactically, something with better rate of fire is more appropriate. But if you want to one headshot enemy, modded musket is way to go.

.50 sniper rifle can be modded with a suppressor which is almost mandatory for [censored] sneak builds. Lasers can benefit from improved crit damage (danse even gives you one) and is great for utilizing high agi/luck builds without sneaking like a little girl.

Neither. I think the .308 round is superior. Chambering in .50cal really slows down the fire rate and ammo capacity (10max). The .308 quick eject drum allows for 40 rounds, and fire rate for follow up shots (incase it doesnt go down in 1 hit) is up to ~33 (vs 3-4 for .50cal).

I prefer the .50 with a suppressor. I like to top my targets at range, and remain obscure while doing so. Lasers give up your position, but the suppressed ballistic weapon doesn't. Well, not nearly as much anyhow.

Been having a field day with the .50, suppressor, and long-range recon scope. Short of introducing another Anti-Material Rifle, this is my weapon of choice for going all Sam Fisher on the Corvega Assembly Plant...

I've been loving the .50, nice and noisy, paired with a combat shotgun with bayonet, for when they find me. The bayonet's just for roaches really. I don't think I'll ever put a silencer on the .50. It just sounds too good. I will say, a good mod for the future... if I fired a .50 IRL as often as in-game, I think my right arm might be crippled after a hard day's work.

Personally I prefer the .50 double shot sniper. Although I occasionally use the gauss rifle charged up 20 times to hit big or nasty enemies.

Better than any .50 cal I've ever encountered.

What perks do you have to bump the damage up to 258. I have that weapon and it is modded I think the same as you have there, but I only do like 188 per shot. Also I have rifleman maxed out. Does the sniper perk affect that as well?

The best sniper rifle that is ballistic is the modified combat rifle. It does slightly less damage than the .50 cal but it is semi-auto instead of bolt so you can fire significantly faster. Also, the ammo is more prevalent in the game.

ah....ninjad a couple of posts above this. :)

3 Ranks in Lone Wanderer give +25% damage, so it may be that.

Edit: Bloody Mess also adds 15% with 3 ranks.

Ammo? I abuse my .50 sniper, and rarely ever drop below 1,000 rounds in my inventory. It's my primary weapon outdoors, and many a small raider or supermutant camp has been completely wiped out by that weapon alone. No, I have no more trouble with .50 than I do with .308. .44 is the rarest proper ballistic cartridge for me so far (PS4).

But it looks like I need to go find that other sniper rifle in the linked image a few posts above.

I carry a silenced .50 hunting rifle and a six crank laser musket. The .50 is what I use most of the time because it has a higher rate of fire, more bullets before reloadin and I can use it in close quarters without alerting enemies. It's the only .50 cal gun in the game worth using and since it also does higher damage than .308, I never run out of ammo for it. I tried using old faithful as a laser sniper rifle before and it's probably more ammo efficient than the laser musket, but it just doesn't work for me. Scopes block the little 3 light charge meter (I think that's what it is), so I can't tell when I'm at full damage.

By the way, it took me a while to figure it out, but the laser musket reloads waaaaay faster if you mash the reload button.

Love my Relentless 50 cal sniper rifle... Rifleman + Ninja + VATS = 1 shot almost any non legendary enemy within the same level range. Except deathclaws and behemoths.
