There are no specific sniper rifles in the game but there are scope attachments and short rifles. Under normal circumstances there are no OHK firearms, even if you get a headshot. A properly buffed individual getting a headshot on a Light may be able to kill them in one shot.

This isn't to say that sniping won't be a viable tactic but you can't just find a comfortable nook and easily pick people off with single shots.

There won't be any sniper scopes, simple as that.
Regular firearm scopes, yes, but not extreme zoom.

And before making another topic, you probably should use the search function, since A LOT of questions have been answered many times before.

But are we positive there are no zoom scopes? Perhaps only short rifles get them? Zoom scopes may be one of those "weapon specific" attachments.

If you look at some of the videos you can see 4x ACOG scope ( or whatever it's called) attachments.
Am really curious to see how gunfights will go .

That isn't a sniper scope, that's a standard scope most guns will have.

This is really not seeming to help you so let me jump in here and quickly explain. Are there snipers? No. Why? Because Rahdo told us that they are discouraging anything that would lead to unfair gameplay, whether it be griefing or camping or just plain be a jerk. Also, because it's supposed to be 8v8 up-close in your face infantry action. Also, because our chararacters will look AWESOME. To also tackle some of the other things that may pop up, nothing relating to MW2. Now, as far as other weapons go, there are going to be short rifles instead. These are single fire weapons that have power and range. Are they snipers? No. They will not take out people nearly as fast, and you should think of them much more as a weapon to soften up enemies for your team mates to finish off. There will be scopes for them too, so they can fill any gap for people that feel they want to stay ranged.

I'm honestly very happy to read that there are no snipers. Snipers harm the gameplay of many modern class based first person shooters.

I agree, Snipers have no place in any FPS. Cod, Battlefeild or othewise.

Well yes, seeing that you would have to be watching your target for at least 3 days before taking the shot.

"Snipers" have no place in FPSs. The cheap imitation that is usually known as "Recon" does. But does indeed frustrate and annoy.

I disagree. If you're going to have pistols, revolvers, assault rifles, machine guns, shot guns, etc....it only makes sense to add Sniper Rifles as well. It's a weapon, it's very much used in combat/warfare, and it has it's advantages and disadvantages like any other weapon. The problem isn't that developesr add snipers to games...it's that they make them way too easy to use. Sniping is extremely difficult ESPECIALLY when the target is moving. Developers just have to figure out how to incorporate them into games to make it a more balanced experience.

Yes, but at what ranges? you don't see snipers making pot shots at 50m. If the enemy got that close, a real sniper would get the hell out of there and find a new position. Games often include snipers as a weapon in games, but very few games include the role. Firing a 10kg rifle with precision accuracy while standing? good luck. A scope that magically adjusts itself for wind, gravity, spin drift, temperature, and altitude? If they actually included all of the cons that snipers have, no one would play as one.

I believe MW2 and BFBC2 both have maps that have decent distances for sniping. I'm not saying snipers should be included in BRINK because idk what map sizes we are gonna be dealing with. You don't have to fire a 10kg rifle while standing...it can be made that the only way you can shoot is if you're crouching or laying on the ground. Where there is a will there is a way.

If anyone wanted to get real technical....they could make numerous arguments why ANY weapon shouldn't be included in FPS. There are always instances in games in which you can't use a certain weapon.

There is NO prone in Brink, think of the short rifle as a deer gun, used from 30 - 80 meters

Shadow was setting something straight about reallife sniping and why realistic sniping will not be in games, unless they're specifically making it for that purpose. Atleast, that's how I interpret it.

Adding a sniper rifle to a game where you will be mostly fighting at close/medium range is pointless. Or you would have to tweak its settings to make it a viable choice at closer ranges, which would make it a short rifle. And oh wow, that's just what we have!!
