Sniping broken. Medium Scope fails so Long Scope = pointless

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2015 1:56 pm

Is this a uGrids issue? How can I enjoy the game if I'm being limited in a world where the options available should work without any issues? Simply using a gun with a Medium Scope from outside Red Rocket and zooming in on Sanctuary, everything is blurry and barely loaded. You can see people like Preston Garvey simply walking a route for a few seconds only to respawn and repeat the same route again. I feel like my enjoyment for sniping has been ruined. This is only for using a Medium Scope which makes me ask what is the purpose of the Long Scope then?! This has to be limitations of the console, but I know it has alot to do with the game's engine. What's the point!! If there's a tweak on PC that solves this, that's great. It's just a real fun-killer. So many things are ruining this game. I wanna barter with someone right away, not wait until they finish talking before I get to clear my throat. The point of clearing my throat is to shut them up.

Like the overpass bridge for instance. Before I take that long road, it's already perfectly implemented in my mind that "hey, I should snipe from here while I'm at it". Is it ruined there, too?!

I can snipe a decent distance. Bethesda has cells that load so you can only snipe as far as the cell renders. If you could snipe from a mile away the enemies wouldn't realize you were even there so you could kill everything in the game without them fighting back.

It's a bummer they can render the whole world at once due to the crappy consoles being limited. I still wish they would make ultra powerful $1000 Xbox and playstation as opposed to the crap they have. They are plastic asian made junk.

If you read the scope description, they do have a limited range so don't expect to hit something from the next town over.

best thing i can tell u is compare the dif scopes yourself, i've done this and there's a definite difference, so to me it's a personal preference; personally i prefer the med scope over the long...this is because of how i like to fight and range, etc. not anything to do with rendering issues

i will admit that the distance rendering leaves a little more to be desired, i do hop mods can do something about that for those of us on PC's that can handle it

Yeah, even if the scopes let you zoom in on the LOD textures 5 cells away, the gun's bullets don't actually reach nearly that far. So the fact that you're not seeing Preston perfectly.....

I hate when I'm trying to snipe from long distance and the creature is floating around like they're on ice, and not walking. Usually happens with Assaultrons and Super Mutants

That's your punishment for using console while I enjoy my long scope.

Why people blame the consoles for this ? It's the games engine limitation more than anything. it has crappy draw distances , it's better in FO4 but not really something to write home about.
Consoles might be worse than PC in this regard (I don't know) but the PC wasn't limited because of them.
If you pushed uGrids in Skyrim, it ran very badly and quests would brake and wierd things would happen without you knowing, which might be the way FO4 also behaves. Although the more memory we can utilize inFO4 would really help.

P.S I use short scopes,, makes it easier to navigate between targets, I wouldn't mind having a CS type of double zoom as a mod though...

I can understand a super long distance. RR to Sanctuary is quite a short distance, though. It's like Skyrim's navmesh distance for projectiles, but in a different way, albeit Skyrim's was insanely short.

I'm not asking to shoot from across the map, but if I can see them, and they're not ants, and they're actually bigger than grasshoppers while zoomed in, stop killin' my vibe.

It's a shooter anyways. It should be my business to tactically take out someone if they fall in my vision. {-___-}

{edit} and it's not even directly at Red Rocket, it's on the hill right in front of the bridge.

{edit 2} not that I wanna take out Preston and the crew. I was just testing it.

{edit 3} not that I wouldn't take out Preston and the crew.

It's crappy on consoles. On PC engine runs fine (given your hardware is decent enough). So no, it's not limitation of engine, it's definelty limitation of consoles.

Sniping is the only thing I do outside of VATS. I worry
about the range of my weapon sometimes, but have had zero problems with what scopes are capable of.

Out of curiosity I just went to Red Rocket and sniped Preston from there just fine. So I'm not saying it's the crappy consoles but, well, it's the crappy consoles.

edit: as a side note I just TCL'ed on top of Red Rocket roof, can't hit anyone from there.

You mean this one? I have no problem with the draw distance through the scope, but I doubt I'd hit anything. It's pretty far.

Not sure about console if that is what you are playing on. However, on PC, when you run the game launcher, there is an "Options" tab. Inside that window, there are a bunch of different settings that deal with "fade distances," detail of distant things, etc. I'm not graphics guy so I cannot detail it precisely.

Suffice to say: when I first played I had everything on absolute top-end settings. I played a long time and saw no issues and I also could zoom in on things an INCREDIBLY long distance away. I had fun for about 30 minutes one time sniping raiders up on top of the Corvega plant from a spot just south of Concord. I was hitting them and killing them, in some cases in one shot. This was with a plain long scope and a .308 pipe rifle, non-legendary and maybe Rifleman 2 or so (nothing on Sniper and PER at about 5).

I have since then had a couple instances where I noticed some performance issues (mainly when in the location dense area of the downtown) so I turned down a few of the settings a bit. Can definitely tell a difference and yes it does reduce the efficacy of my sniper rifles a bit.

So in sum, it might just be the default settings on your rig, and it may be (if it is a console) that there is nothing you can do about it.

I don't think this game is meant for snipers. It's about exploring not camping with your sniper rifle. For this to work all the enemies and NPCs would have to spawn within your long scope range.

Even if this worked, it would be really boring just picking off enemies who can't shoot you. And if you gave the enemies the ability to snipe you then I doubt you would enjoy exploring when at any moment an enemy could snipe you from far off.

Some of these complains are crazy.

I can see things from miles away on my PC, so must be a console thing because it does work on the PC if it's a decent one.

lol.

OK. Long Range Scope actually has the following problem for me: Everything becomes a freaking slide show and the frames per second drops drastically down to the "unplayable" region.

Funny. You'd think that seeing a great number of objects on screen would make the game a slide show, but the reverse is true in this case.

I am on the PC, btw.

That doesn't happen to me, my fps remains the same. Must be some setting you're using, or maybe your hardware.

Pretty much. Maybe further to the right in the grass somewhere.

You're nuts. If enemies could snipe me like that, I would actually love it. I would have to be more aware than I am now. Lots of terrain variation for me to traverse and snipe each other. Of course, it could work that enemies are only alerted and snipe if I shot first and missed. Don't get upset just because these "compaints" are pretty viable. It's the games fault not compensating. Maybe certain ammo should be scarce. Maybe there should be more snipers who do weaker damage. The point is pretty much, as far as consoles are concerned, if the game can't load a grid properly, it's time to create a new game engine.

Oh my. I can hit the ear at stupid distances. I do have a 2560x1600 display, with draw distances almost maxxed out though.

PC Master ... oh never mind it's painful enough I'm sure.

I play ARMA3 on highest settings and can zoom in and out and make kills of over 1 kilometre (using range finder, not guesstimate) with zero problems and graphics are as smooth as a baby's butt.

FO4's scope becomes a slide show when I am just looking across a bridge.

Again, that doesn't happen to me, my computer is a beast though. Then again I haven't seen anyone else complain about fps issues when they use a scope either.

I would check your settings - maybe you have over extended, or set something up incorrectly. Or maybe it's a hardware issue.
