Sniping - Fill me in please

Post » Mon Jun 21, 2010 11:22 am

Hi, i'm new,
I've been trying to keep myself off BRINK forums, but couldn't resist.
Could someone please tell me everything there is to know about Snipers and sniping. I tried to use the search toolbar but that came up with irrelevant results.
Are there any One hit kill weapons? (i heard not)
How many sniper rifles will there be in BRINK?
Bolt-action or semi-auto?
What kind of optics will they have?
Even a tiny bit of information is useful to me, so please be generous with your knowledge.

We don't know a lot. Or at least I don't know alot.

No weapon will be able to kill you in one hit. Ever. The only exception is if you headshot the weakest bodytype in the game, and only if they don't buff thier health, and you overcome thier natural speed.

There are two known short rifles as of now. One bolt action, one semi auto.

I've seen about 2 sniper scopes, 2 or 3 holographic dot sights, and 3 or 4 iron sights.

Try reading http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1157370-snipers/.

EDIT:

Also, there's probably a link to H0RSE's compendium in there - I'd give that a read as well.

You won't die, but be in an incapacitated state.

Im pretty sure even with a headshot on the weakest bodytype w/o buffed health you can only incapacitate them (put them on the ground, similar to last stand

This is correct.

There are no one-hit-kills. Which does not mean there aren't one-hit-incapacitations.

I thought as much about the OHK thing.
Do you know just how much extra extra health the heavy and medium body types have than the light? (how many more bullets am i going to have to put in them?)
Snipings always come naturally to me, so if there is one thing i can rely on, it's my aim.
With or without sniping being a viable option i am going to love this game.

No one knows the specific numbers, I'm afraid. You'll have to wait with the rest of us.

According to Cinnas PAX review a Heavy has roughly 15% more health than a medium.

SD Saying that there are no one shot kills is a pile of [censored]. Headshots with the Barrett sniper rifle one-hit light and medium body types, and did about 85% damage to a heavy body type.

There is still a lot to be discovered with the game, i am hoping they are going to have an Aimpoint Comp M4 look alike, but as far as i know there aren't that many optics, i only know of 2 snipers the bolt and Dragnav (semi-auto) the only ironic thing is the Gorund is a M14 look-alike and should be in the light rifle spec but they decided to have it as a AR with M16 influence as well: http://images.wikia.com/brink/images/2/28/Gerund_FPV.png but then again i am a Firearm Technical-skadouche.

Perhaps he considered the M14 a light rifle as well. After all The Barret is one of the two light rifles.

SD said that sniping will not be a big part of the game but they put it in because it is a big part of gaming. So far i have seen one true sniper scope other then that there is the greeneye and other sights. There are no one hit kills.

Isn't the Greeneye Scope apparently meant to be a Night Vision / Infrared Scope?

From the video-snippets I could see, it's basicly a green EOTech sight.

I certainly don't want it to be a bunch of snipers and only snipers, but if I'm on the front line I would like to know that there's a capable sniper covering my back when I go to plant a charge or heal a downed mate.

i really hate snipers after MoH,most maps have huge vantage points for only one side so it ends up a rock, paper, scissors. "oh you spawned on that side? ok well here i got something for ya *BUH BLAM*...headshot bee-atch."

It seems so since the barret and the drognav are the light rifles. Bolt and semi respectively.

Or with the Barret like WTF did my health go. retreat and find a medic.

Indeed.

i asked the same question and got back that, their is no "sniper rifle" per say but their are rifles and short rifles that do not have a long range scope.....
its basically like getting a regular 1-shot rifle and putting an ACOG site on it if you know what i mean
