Snow Elves

I was playing through Morrowind with a new character, and I happened upon this guy - for those of you that haven't played Morrowind or done the quest, he's a Nord who asks you to get his axe back from some witch.

"But SirBryghtside! What does this have to do with Skyrim!" I hear you ask.

When I asked him about his background, I can't remember the exact details but it was something about his father, who was a bartender, being murdered by Snow Elves. Nords don't live that long, so this was recent - Snow Elves are in Skyrim (the place) - but will they be in Skyrim (the game)?

So, to discuss - do you want Falmer in Skyrim?

I thought they died out? maybe two or three lingering members of a dying race, more of an easter egg than a race I hope

Maybe they were in Skyrim (the place) at the time we visited Morrowind (the game), but it's been quite a few years since then. I would like it though.

As long as they don't have the Oblivion Altmer skin texture.. yellow snow elves not a good idea.

That part in Morrowind went over my head, we'll most likely have references and ruins of theirs in Skyrim.
So it'll be within reason at least spirits or a hidden lost tribe of them are somewhere.

Agreed, but that thing I pointed out in the OP kind of suggests they're not dead. Also, he said the snow elves, which suggests they're common.

Of course, he could have been referring to the Rieklings. I'm fully aware of Falmer lore, I wouldn't have made the thread otherwise :P

A Dwemer-esque vibe?

@ above post, I doubt he was referring to the Falmer, probably to a race of goblins or some such that resemble elves

Aren't http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Riekling#Rieklings considered as a descendants of the snow elves?

I think the naked Nord meant them, because otherwise the snow elves are considered extinct or fully merged into other races.

Yes, he meant the Falmer, aka Rieklings, AKA snow elves.

I wouldn't mind seeing some Rieklings, devilish little bastards.

Yes it's been a while since I ran up to Solstheim, but I'm sure it was implied that many tombs and burial chambers were around the places they lived.
The Dwemer were more advanced than most, but the Falmer seemed again to me when I played to have a medieval vibe with the snow prince, or a high fantasy one anyway.
Compared to the darker, earlier feel to the Nords.
The Aylieds in Oblivion, again you could compare them to the Falmer.
I'd hate to say it's a tradition but TeS elven races through, gods, demi gods, and magical / technological means have ascended mortality in many ways.

 I thank you, and my monitor curses you, for the same reason: the iced tea I had to wipe off of said monitor after reading this.

Bear in mind the Nord as well- with a name like Hlormar Wine-Sot, he could probably have been talking about anything. Falmer. Rieklings. Dwemer. Pink Woolly Mammoths wearing Tutus. Old Blue-Fin. ;)

Its been 200 years they can add anything they please now and just say "it happened in that time" so if they want falmer in-game they are in-game , they could add giant talking mead that when apporached you click to ride on then they swallow you and you ride inside a giant mead can and just say oh yeah nords invented them in the 200.

When you get far enough in the East Empire Quest in Bloodmoon and build up the colony. There is a man who comes to the bar and has you hunt for snow elf artifacts or something. I forget the details but I don't think they are alive anymore. But I'm sure there will be references to them. And when you do the quest you get the spear of the snow elf prince (I forget what its called).

The Falmer/Snow Elves skin was coated by a blue-white ice-layer.. so their skin would probably resemble Altmer skin but with a bluish tone rather then yellow.

That's two of four main theories of the fate of the Falmer.. the other two can be read here:http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Falmer

I myself have another, fifth theory, that the surviving Falmer from Solstheim fled.. to Atmora.

The man is a High Elf, named Athellor, that believes he is a descendant of the Snow Prince (whom's artefact you are sent to recover along with a book).. I think the spear is simply called "the Spear of the Snow Prince".

Unfortunately, the number of playable races hasn't changed, so unless Todd has removed an old race (please no) or is planning to sneak attack us (hopefully) then Falmer won't be playable, or a major race, just like the Dwemer (In terms of gameplay not lore obviously)

At this point, falmer (snow elves) are nothing more than the boogy man. They haven't been seen, and the only mention of them is 1st era stuff about how the nords royally kicked their asses to the point of extinction.

You ask me, they're nothing but boogy men nords use as a scapegoat. It's almost like me blaming fairies for all my woes (except they really are).
