Social network for Skyrim?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:02 pm

It doesn't have to be a competitive thing. we could see the different character looks people have, and a description of a character's background, class, etc.. to give other people role-play ideas.

I love this forum. It's a great social place where folks who play the games I play can gather, share their ideas, help one another out, show screenshots of their characters and make some awesome mods. It's where we can sport our Steam and Xbox Live and PSN accounts and our websites all in our profile. We can follow the news, discuss the reviews do just generally enjoy one another's company. We can agree, disagree, agree to disagree and remain civil. It's an awesome community of mostly mature i intelligent people from all over the world who play the games I play. This place works for me. I love it here.

Summer, I swear you are like the den mother of these forums. All everyone needs now is to be in their jammies, with a glass of milk and graham crackers. :)

I play games that collect pictures profiles of my characters and all that stuff, but I'll be damned if I ever looked for any of it.

It means nothing to me what other people do when they play a game. I don't think it makes my gaming experience any better, or worse, for that matter.

I alter my characters mid game with the console a lot. I would have so many nearly similar characters filling multiple pages with different pictures of the same character with altered stats, gear, or even six changes that it would be impossible to distinguish one from another. Hell, I'll open the race menu just to adjust the darkness of eye liner if I think the character looks a little off.

Oh, and most of my friends don't play these kinds of games, if they play video games at all.

This is a silly idea, ESPECIALLY for a single player only game. I put the supporters this challenge:
Name 10 good reasons for having it or even implementing it in the first place.

They do it with Dragon Age and that single player

No. Too many "social networks" as it is. Bleh.

I think he means a website where you can look up other people's characters. Like the OP said I am guessing it would feature a picture of your character, a section for screenshots, the stats of the character, list of completed quests, inventory and perhaps a comparison of two characters.

There'd have to be lots of limits on it. Especially on the PC side, with mods out to infinity. Not sure Beth would like to see a character page featuring a nvde pic of some whacked-out K-cup she-male Dremora (just to come up with the craziest thing I can think of)..... easiest way would be to limit it to "no mods". At which point you're basically making it PS3/XBox only. And what's the point then?

If a network like this existed, it would have to be optional; I wouldn't use it, and wouldn't want any information from my PC transmitted anywhere without my express permission. If it were non-optional, I wouldn't buy the game. Skyrim is a single player game, not an MMO or Co-op.

To be entirely honest, I don't really even see a point to something like this, except waving one's e-peen around.

I think it would be cool to see everyone character. Not as a way to run around nitpicking about min/maxing stats. As a way to see everyone's own take on their own character and story. I for one dont always use the "best" armor available because sometimes i dont like the way it looks. Also i refuse to use any sword without a scabbard, its just wrong!

why every one compares the social network with MMOs?? people understand it, its just a easier way of show your characters, nothing more

is something cool, at least just the option of import the portrait to use it in this forums will be cool, and well if we move that way, isnt bad show some basic points of your history playing the game, anyway is optional, you can keep your old avatar of snoopy if you want xD

This could be implemented as a feature in the forums here.

I don't see why one would wanna go to a site just to show off your characters. Seems dumb to me, sorry

Could work if implemented on the forums. But I wouldn't care one bit to be honest. I don't really care if the one I talk to plays as a Dark Elf or Imperial or is level 20 or 40.

I'd care more if Bethesda improved this site though and made it easier to chat and such. I'd care more about that.

I think that all of you trolls/flamers have missed one very important fact here: this was done for Morrowind and was very successful.

http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/cne/cne_main.php

In the month after I debuted that site, Google trends showed that search terms for Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls, and modding all took a big jump. Traffic on my site and several of the other affiliate sites I am close with increased sharply...the first three days brought as much traffic to GHF as the entire previous 2 months. And not to mention that a lot of people used it. And this was 7 years after the game was released.

So yes, it is the type of thing that a lot of people can appreciate. Dumb idea? Really?

Just imagine what will happen when the same thing shows up for the game while it is still relatively new?

I voted no because I'd want it totally private. I don't use Facebook yet when I play Starcraft II it glares my REAL NAME at my face. Why should a video game know my real name? It's just stupid.
