id Software Games

If you're on here, you are probably a Bethesda fan (if you aren't, umm.. why are you here? exactly? ) But let's take a moment to have respect for another amazing developer, id software. Many of you may remember when their games were released such as Wolfenstein and Doom with plenty of controversy to go along with it. Now they are known as the developer who invented the FPS genre AND perfected it. So my questions are stated in the poll, I also have another question. What was the first id game you ever played?

To say my answers,

My favorite would be Wolfenstein 3D, it may not be technically as great as Doom II or Quake. But it holds a special place in me due to it being my first id game. The one I'm most excited about is Doom 4. Rage looks amazing, but id has stated that while Rage may be great, Doom 4 will be tons better.

I've only played Doom 3 from that list. I'm not sure if I played Quake. I remember playing a really hectic shooter when I was a kid, I think there were portals in the game levels (not sure about this).

Quake 2 and Rage. Doom got me started in shooters, but Q2 blew me away.

The original Doom, played that lots. I enjoyed the first Quake too. Didn't like Doom 3 or Quake 3, though.

I love the Quake series, Quake 3 Arena and QW being my favorite of them. I'm looking forward to Quake 5, but we don't know anything about that so I enjoy Quake Live in the meantime. The Doom series is also a very fun, but I never got into the multiplayer so they didn't last as long as Quake has for me.

I voted Quake 3 Arena because it is probably my favorite game of all time.

Doom is a classic.

Rage looks great, but I'm still not sure if I'll be buying it though. :)

Doom. I remember playing the Shareware version and I still play it on occasion today. It's got a permanent place on my harddrive.

Im interested to see RAGE but im really craving a new DOOM game. Its been far too long.

My favorite id game is probably DOOM 1, with Quake 1 following behind. The level design in Quake had a twisted beauty to it.

So, i guess we'll go with DOOM 4 out of the other 2.

They did not develop Hexen, they published it. Raven Software developed it. If I had included published games there would also be titles such as Quake 4 and Wolfenstein (2009). Here's the wiki article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexen

I got it when it was that price, very nice to have them all together.

But sadly I completely missed out on Quake Complete :sadvaultboy:

Wolfenstein was okay.

DOOM was the first game I ever played, and hooked me instantly. id Software perfected 'insane' fps with the nightmare difficulty, which makes the DOOM series one of my favorite series ever made. I spent so many hours playing the DOOM games and I can still go back and have just as much fun playing them today. DOOM 3 was a pretty big letdown though, it tried so hard to be a flashy survival horror shooter that it strayed way too far from the DOOM formula. Iddqd, what an amazing series.

Quake 2 was the best multiplayer experience of my life hands down. I've never even played the single player campaign, just spent years online with it. Q2 had everything, and everything was perfect. Rocket Arena is the best mod ever made, Freeze tag followed very close behind that, and Quake 2 had the best map making community maybe of all time. I even remember a really addicting platforming mod.

Rocket jumps, rail guns, and a grappling hook, it gets no better than that.
