Software Requirements For Modelling For Fallout 3 ?

Post » Tue May 18, 2010 11:25 am

Hey Guys,

As some of you already know I'm very inexperienced with moding for Fallout 3, but I am going to stick with it and hope I can help others in the future. I've had an idea for a sticky ! which will help / guide newbies, like myself, through what they actually need, to get started with modelling, for Fallout 3.

Ok so here goes. (Please correct me and update this post as I need the help also)

Basically this is what I found is needed , on my PC, so far !

Fallout 3 + the 1.7.0.3 Patch --------------------------------------------------------Check

The G.E.C.K (Garden of Eden Creation Kit) plus the 1.5 Update-----------------Check

Blender 3D (2.49b)-------------------------------------------------------------------Check

NifScope (1.0.21)---------------------------------------------------------------------Check

Blender - NIF Scripts-----------------------------------------------------------------Check

PyFFI for Python 2.6------------------------------------------------------------------Check <--- Any idea what this is required for ? Installed a QSkope Icon on desktop ?

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1------------------------------------------------------Check <--- Again what's the necessity of this ?

Qskope---------------------------------------------------------------------------------ERROR <--- Dos Window advising to install PyQt4 from http://www.riverbankcomputing.co.uk/software/pyqt/download

OK so that's it so far. I suspect that the later applications may not be needed and are just automated requests by the software developers to proliferate their software but I'm only guessing. If anyone can shed some light on these issues, as I really don't want to fill my HD up with files that are not necessary and whose authenticity I have no information about ! I Mean that Qskope could be anything, although i suspect that its fine and perfectly legitimate.

Well anyway thanks for now and happy Moding.

to address your concerns on the software: there is nothing you need to worry about.

afaik, pyffi is basically a backend/sdk for the python export scripts. qskope is the GUI for pyffi. its there if you actually wanted to code your own scripts. i'm not 100% sure about the exact details, so someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

i've installed everything you've mentioned here, with no issues. just make sure you get the latest versions of all the NIF-related software and you will be good to go.

check out the tutorials in Miaximus' sig, there is a wealth of info there you should rely on. also see the http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro series of tutorials for blender.

Thanks for the info. I still need a little more instruction on what I need to download in regard to what version of the PyQt Installer I need as there are 4 available on the www.riverbankcomputing.co.uk website.
