[REQ] Solar Scorcher

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:54 pm

On second thought, the alien blaster cell is a LOT longer than I thought it was. Stick with the retex'd small E-cell.

you could always edit the mesh for the blaster cell. of course if you did that you would probably need to make a duplicate entry for that in the GECK.

anyway, nice work so far guys. looking forward to this. :goodjob:

I could make the 'three tubes' in that cell 'glowy' like the alien cell...

:stare: ... Are they glowing? I can't tell. By the way I do think that overly glowy ammo would be great with this but that might just be me. Very cool looking regardless.

Ever so slightly. I put the glow map texture on the object, but it does not glow very brightly. Probably something else needs to be done to the mesh to make it glow more.

I just checked it and I forgot to change the emisive from black. I will try it and see if that makes a difference in game...

:celebration: By the way, you should be able to tweak the two or three settings bellow the emmisive color to change the glow brightness and intestity if I recall correctly.

Emmisive multiplier is what you're looking for. the higher it is, the more "Bloom" it gets (at least with HDR on)

Nice work on this so far, i hope it sees light of day. I have wanted solar scorcher to FO3 since i knew about it.

The ammo you made WillieSea looks really good, but how about we improve it a bit more, like say we combine the alien power cell with the small enery cell?

Maybe to something like this?:

Basically i replaced the three batteries with scaled alien power cell's and made all new textures plus a bit of UV mapping.

Hahaha, do you not see how similar yours and his are. I don't see any major diffrences at all. Are you sure you didn't just link to one of his pics? :P

I am controlling the glow with a 'glow map' texture. I sort of like the glow it has now, but I need to add a bit more to the blue grid area of the cell.

I would prefer not changing the model since it looks okay now. But that would be up to MadCat since he is working the models...

New page, so Its time to recap all the pictures so far:

And what I think is the perfect sound effect for the weapon...

Ehh... seems too light. The plasma rifle has more oomph IMO.

This is a Drastic Measures gun, a weapon you whip out when the going gets tough. It's gotta sound the part.

If you really want a beefy SFX for it, ask a guy named Crawlius on FO3Nexus. He made the CRL9000 sound mod. He's the one that made the SFX for the pulse pistol.

I was thinking more 'quiet' since its a 'solar energy' burst. I was going to make it 'silent' as far as detection goes. Like the silenced 10mm pistol.

 I suppose we could make two versions and let the player decide which they like...

If it's got a bright beam (which it should, it's the Solar Scorcher), being silent is a moot point except against blind opponents. Heck, any energy weapon short of the Ultraviolet laser beam idea I had would be a moot point as far as being a stealth weapon would go.

It does not matter much to me how its set up.

I just did not think it would make much noise. We will see how the bright beam looks and I may change my mind. Its difficult to imagine what it should sound like when I have not played with the final version yet. :)

Vault 13 is coming along nicely. You have to 'short out' the control panel in order to get the elevator door to open. Once you make it to the command level, you have to hack the security terminal to open the mainframe door. Then you have to hack the mainframe terminal to open the Armory door. Inside the armory will be the solar scorcher.

There will be a few other things going on as well... Still working on that stuff.

I believe this thread can be closed since the model request has been accepted and is being worked on by MadCat221.
