Hey

I am doing the quest Hard Answers,

where you need to find Calcelmo's Falmer Translating Guide, and then use this Translating Guide to duplicate the writing on Calcelmo's Stone.

The thing is between these two quest milestones, I did some other stuff and also cleared my inventory a bit at a shop/person, where I sold

this Translating Guide, unknowingly I continued with the quest, and when it came to the duplicating of the writing, I couldn't because I needed

the Translating Guide, when I realised I sold it, but now the time I sold it is completely out of the scope of the autosaves and I can't remember

to whom or where I sold it.

Any ideas on how I can go forward?

Are you sure you need this guide? I believe, but could be wrong, that "essential quest items" can not be sold, for the very reason you talk about

Have you tried making the copy? It should work as long as you have 2 specific items (used to make a rubbing) in your inventory.

That's strange, the vanilla game doesn't let you sell quest items. Are you sure that's the reason you can't continue? If you're on the PC, you can use the command line to restore the item to your inventory though I don't know the item ID.

If this is the part of the quest where you make the rubbings, make sure you have paper and charcoal. Good luck!
