Soldier Discussion

Post » Mon Nov 16, 2009 5:43 pm

Hate to be the bearer of bad new but there is no sniper class. Or are the sniper rifles the OHK they are in most games. If you have more question check my sig for the complied info.

Im not saying a sniper class im just saying an option for soldiers to snipe would be a good one.

The sniper rifle is a light weapon. Anyone can use it. In my mind the Engineer will be the most capable sniper. Especially for protecting objectives.

Place turret, Buff gun, get position covered by mines and provide over watch.

It was just a sugestion probably any class but the medic would be suited to be a sniper but this is a topic about soldiers and i think you are over thinking this.

I think soldiers are going to be meant for more of a "front line" type of gameplay style, not support.

To end this discussion about snipers, any class could fit the role of a sniper and they would all have different perks and to bring if they were going to fulfill a sniper role. Sadly, there are no sniper rifles in the game. They are light rifles and they are meant for support, so you can help your friends with a little more distance than being on the front line.

Now personally, I think that the Soldiers shielding ability could best be fulfilled by a medium body type. He would be able to absorb good damage, but this way he would be able to get around quicker, and be more agile on the battlefield. If it were a heavy, he would certainly be able to take the damage, but moving around a little slower pace would mean he would be a slower target, so he would probably get hit more causing him to take fast damage.

Well it's not like he's just standing there taking the bullets, he's going to fire back and if they are only smaller body types firing then he will have the bigger gun.
It also sounds like your stating most of the team will be shooting him, this could be more useful in a situation like a operative needs to get to a point ad it's blocked by a sentry. You got the soldier to block the low accurate bullets while the operative puts the hacker on and then get out of there.

Well it depends on how the shielding works. Will they have to be a certain distance from he other in order to be effective? Also heavies will bring more guns and more HP to the fight.

A heavy medic being shielded by a heavy soldier, devastating in the right hands.

I think there should two skills for one to increase explosive damage and one to increase explosive radius. But, they still are not OHK unless perhaps against a light without a health buff.

Remember, Rahdo said no GUN by default can kill in one hit- things like grenades are not guns, and I fully expect them them to kill a player if they are hit by one, even if they are close to one.

Well the CEO had several buffs on himself, so it may not be as powerful as it seemed in the container city videos.

Yes he was in god mode. Still there is a huge difference between getting shot and being blown up.

No, it's separate. God mode just means you take no damage.

Actually i have proof sniper rifles are in the game, there is one shown in the cinematic trailer and one is shown in the Security character customization gallery: 3rd row down and 16 to the right.

The cinematic trailer has a lot of inconsistencies, showing things that aren't in the actual game (like molotovs, dual wielding pistols, wall flips, and the way they depict sniper rifles)
As for seeing them in the character customization - it has been mentioned numerous times that the "sniper rifles" in Brink, look like traditional sniper rifles, but do not operate the way you'd expect a sniper rifle to behave in a game. They aren't even called sniper rifles in Brink, they are known as short or light rifles.

Well people from Quakecon have been mentioning a moltov grenade. Its likely one of the soldiers expanded grenade selection. What other types of grenades should the soldiers gain assess 2?

I was actually wondering the same exact thing. I am curious as to the different grenades that will be available to soldiers.

How about some explosive rounds? With a very small splash radius, like borderlands.

Who's planning to play this light? I suppose that we would focus on giving ammo and doing hit and run, a bit like guerrilla warfare I suppose

Yeah, I wasn't sure about being a light soldier but I think the fact we are so agile will really compensate for our low health, were just going to have to play the game more tactically
