Soldier Discussion

Post » Mon Nov 16, 2009 5:16 pm

Ok people most of the information is from Horses Compendium. http://forums.bethso...nfo-compendium/
This is what have have heard from the devs and might not be official in the end. You have been warned.

Soldier is one of the four classes in Brink. Lead the charge to demolish objectives, specialize in grenades, and resupply your team.

Soldier's can:

Demolish objectives

Resupply teammates

Use different types of grenades (certain grenades use the ability pips so you have a limitless supply)

Buff teammates teammates ammo supplies

Shield teammates (we have no idea how this works)

What do think the Soldiers should have? (abilities, items etc)

Please note I intend to make one of these for each class and update as information becomes available in order to encourage discussion.

Please note that no class is a ninja. :ninja:

They can also buff the ammo capacity of weapons, and "shield" teammates (whatever that is) They will probably get some unique weapon or combat focused abilities.

I think the Soldier is supposed to get "area-denial" grenades, e.g. tear gas. Such things would be very useful for clearing out camping defenders, or stopping a rush of attackers in their tracks.

I think they also get a bonus to their maximum health.

I didn't know they could buff ammo capacity. Hopefully we will find out what the "Shield" ability is

I heard area denial grenades, do we know what tear gas is confirmed? Also how would tear gas grenade work and would it affect people wearing the gas mask?

Got a link to the health boost? I haven't heard anything about that.

"battle hardened" is a skill that increases your health bar - I think it is a General skill. That and the Medic buff are all I have heard about health boosts.

edit: my bad, i forgot that weapons were body, not class.
edit 2: no Molotov's? damn, my pyromaniac plan is ruined!
this is just a flat out guess, but the Shield might be either make you temp invulnerable, or make someone else temp invulnerable. like i said, pure guess.

Molotovs are not in, and if you want to use shotguns as a Secondary, you need to be a Heavy - any class can use them.

A soldier only ability that boosts your weapon proficiency? I don't think it would be in for balance reasons.

It wouldn't surprise me if you could buy a Soldier skill that boosts one of your weapon slots by one weight class. Heavies able to use two heavy weapons, Lights able to use shotguns, Mediums able to use grenade launchers. It would make sense in terms of continuity with Soldiers in previous SD games, although it is indeed a good question how they'd keep it balanced. Maybe negating one of the Soldier's other abilities, like special grenades or shielding.

I also believe that certain Command Points will give boosts one of them being health.

No doubt you will be the great wall of the Ark.

Actually, considering the amount of weapon customisation Brink will supposedly allow, this could be pretty interesting. One HMG with an enlarged ammo case, one with a silencer and recoil suppressor?

So you want to give lights shotguns, what are they scouts? I really think that is a great idea but more of a perk for the soldier instead of a buff. After all the Soldiers are supposed to bring the firepower. :flamethrower:

With a Heavy Machine Gun. I have a weird visual of WWI Trench warfare.

Like H0RSE said, it's likely to throw the game off balance, because there's supposed to be this tradeoff between mobility and firepower. It probably won't be in the game, simply because it's not really very team-oriented and lots of people would want it for the sake of personal glory.

From reading the previews, one gets the impression you can do some pretty extravagant things with Brink weapon customisation.

'S what I've been assuming. Transfer some portion of the damage an ally takes to yourself, maybe with some markdown, e.g. target takes 50% damage, you take 30%. (PURE BLIND SPECULATION DO NOT QUOTE) Good for keeping your medic alive, or for giving a teammate more time to react to interruption when trying to complete an objective.

I am going to put on the list of stupid things that MW2 has done.

We hope and we dream. I don't think that there should be 2 many buffs or everyone will spend their time buffing each other instead of playing the game. Also it could be used for farming.

Well, the thing about the buffs in this game is that they should take hardly any time at all. It's not like they'll only last a set duration; I'm pretty sure the health, damage, and ammo capacity buffs that players can give each other last until the buffed character respawns or until the buffing character distributes more than the buff cap. (I anticipate a system kind of like the mine cap in ET:QW, i.e. you have a max number of players you can buff, and if you buff more players than that, the player you buffed least recently loses your buff.) So basically, you spawn, you buff each other, and then you stop worrying about buffs and start fighting.

A Star Wars reference, and a song from Back to the Future - 2 movies references in one post - "The Empire Strikes Back to the Future." The best movie idea ever.
