i'm wondering how your character came to be the only survivor from the vault , what happened to your wife and kid and other residents of the vault .

@OP: Who knows, besides the devs obviously, we'll just have to wait and see, my guess, is something woke up the significant other and child but couldnt get to your character, leaving you to wake up later.

It was my understanding your spouse and kid never made it into the vault, but I don't remember where I got that from so I could be wrong. As for everyone else, maybe they're cryo pods got shut down by accident or to conserve energy (like in Mass Effect)

The E3 Video looks like the protagonist got caught up in the blast with their spouse and child. So if the protagonist got into the vault, then so did their spouse and child. Everyone being stuck in the cryo pod makes more sense. Of course, it is possible that this is another Vault experiment and the race to the vault never happened and was just some VR simulation. So the family was already in the vault when the bomb went off.

The vault is probably yet another experiment vault. Mayne the system is designed unfreeze one person at a time and let them live alone without the ability to wake their friends and family up. Maybe you're the last one? Although depending on how many people were in the vault that might be unlikely.

Something bad probably did happen though given that you take your Pipboy from a skeleton in the vault IIRC.

it think thats what probally happened , and the unfreezing process was designed to fail for all the other residents and only one to survive . vault-tec was major [censored]s when it came to the designs of the vaults.

Your vault is another copy of vault 108. You were placed in Cyro and your dna used to make clones. Like Gary, your clones killed everyone. You are still technically a "sole survivor" because only you's (?) are left. Why do think they went to the trouble of voice recording player's names... so your clones have something to say! ... once thawed you realize the vault is to small to sustain your new clone family, so you open the vault up to expand into the wastes... This is why settlements are in the game.

Yeah. Probably more like vault 112 that was a vertual reality vault that let the player experience tranquility lane.. The opening sequence will most likely be a virtual reality imo. We'll obviously have to wait to find out...

As for what happens to everybody else... Play the game? I'm under the impression the whole point of the story is to find out what happened, specifically to your wife and child as I don't believe they are dead.

Turns out that everyone in the vault was allergic to peanuts except you and the only food available was peanut butter. Magic peanut butter that allowed you to stay the same age for 200 years.

My theory is that you are the latest model of Cyborg implanted with the memory's of the original human you are designed after. Reson your family is missing and there was no one else in the vault is because the vault was emptied years before and it was a convenient place to start this experiment.

My guess is that it has something to do with Ghouls. You are in a nuclear blast, and likely get a large amount of radiation.

Every one in the vault were killed or turned by cybernetic soles from the future... The AI in that timeline is NothingButNet.
