Solitude - The Feeling It Gives Me

Post » Sat Oct 01, 2011 9:11 pm

When looking at http://cdnstatic.gamesas.com/bethblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Pages18-19-from-skyrim_artbook_worlds-LORES-2.jpg I got the feeling I was looking at 18th Century London. May sound silly but hey, that's the feeling I got.

Some comparisons :

I get that Jack The Ripperish feeling... I wonder if Top Hats are in the game in Solitude or something, that would be awesome. I really like games set in this style of cities/era.. eery yet habitated.

Sweet. I agree; it has that same gray, murky feel that characterizes industrial London.

I almost thought that the architecture rising above all the ratty houses looked slavic or turkish or greek. The domes. Particularly the image of the old man pulling the cart in the city streets shows a stone building in the back that looks like and eastern orthodox church. I love it.

I fell in love with 'Solitude' the moment I saw it for two brief seconds in the official trailer.

I like the windmill in the backdrop. Its ragged silhouette amidst the fog and rain is quite eerie. Probably a cold night. I'd expect some undead if paranoia ain't so abstract in such a place.

I think that Solitude will be a beautiful, bright and full of life in the streets city in daylight and in the night, all people would be in taverns/homes and outside will be very dark, streets full of streetlamps and empty streets. I know where will be my favorite place when it rains.

That'd be cool if there was a Jack The Ripper inspired quest where you have to track down an illusive killer that's been terrorizing solitude.

I agree. It looks like a place where Jack the Ripper could be lurking around any corner.

A little bit, the windmill kind of kills that feeling. :P And to think people believed Nords were uncivilized savages.

It will most likely be my favorite city since it's the wealthiest.

I like it the emotion from the concept made me actually think of a foreboding and solitary place. I really like the Skyrim feel with apparent Imperial influence.

Looks like a great place for two things:

Roving Undead in the sewers/crypts/underbelly.

And

A detective/crime solving quest!

I'm sure there will be sewers with LOTS of rats carrying several diseases, might possibly lead to that HUGE bridged castle. I also get the feeling that you will be given a lot "track down the subtle killer/assassin" quests in the tavern of Solitude.

It has a similar feeling to Skingrad, I guess, which was my favorite city in Oblivion. So yeah, I'll probably live there.
