SOLUTION TO ALOT OF NEW VEGAS PROBLEMS!

Post » Wed Nov 11, 2009 9:56 am

So this may work for some people, others it may not, it all depends on the console really....
These are my personal experiences with the game itself and what has worked for me to keep things running smooth....
Im using the new Xbox 360 slim, with a clean hard drive....
So lets go through the things i have solutions for.

1. go to your dashboard, system settings, memory, then clear your HD cache ( it helps alot with the lagging and freezing ) ..... You can still clear the cache even with the patch update, just re-update the game when your done clearing the cache...

2. < DO NOT!!!! > play for extended periods of time!!!!!! the longer your console is running, the slower the process speed.... Your system is over heating.... SORRY but your going to need to take some breaks!!!! Turn the console off for at least an hour to 2 hours after anything more then 4 hours game play.

3. When walking through doors and your getting frozen on the loading screen.... DONT rush to get through the door.... Stand still in front of the door for a couple seconds then click which ever button you use to enter / exit rooms, buildings, etc.....

4. Cliff glitches and getting stuck.... Its a no brainer.... DO NOT TRY TO JUMP OFF, WALK UP, OR FORCE your way around the cliffs....

5. VATS glitch.... Again another no brainer.... play the game like a real first person shooter.... DONT USE VATS UNTIL NEW PATCH IS RELEASED TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE.....

6. Lagging, Freezing, And Glitching.... All easily noticable in the game.... OLD XBOX 360 A.K.A. THE ORIGINAL AND ELITE.... DO NOT HAVE THE SAME PROCESSOR SPEEDS AS THE NEW SLIM!!!!! alot of your issues will be resolved if your running on the new slim.... SORRY OLD 360 USERS... The console is obsolite for this game....

7. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM OF THEM ALL.... YOUR GAME SAVES..... YOU NEED TO TAKE THAT EXTRA 30 SECONDS OF YOUR GAME PLAY AND SAVE... SAVE... SAVE.... YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR EXPERIENCE MORE EVEN IF YOU CRASH..... SAVE BEFORE ENTERING BUILDINGS, SAVE BEFORE EXITING.... SAVE BEFORE STARTING NEW QUEST.... SAVE WHEN FINISHED QUEST..... IF YOUR HAVING ISSUES SAVING TO YOUR CONSOLE.... ITS BECAUSE YOUR HARD DRIVE IS CORRUPT.... NOT THE GAME, ITS THE HARD DRIVE ITSELF..... IF YOUR HARD DRIVE IS CORRUPT... AGAIN ANOTHER NO BRAINER.... YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO GET A NEW HARD DRIVE.... THAT OR BUY A SLIM WHICH CAN PROCESS THE GAME.....

I have had one hell of a time playing this game the past few days, and while playing i have been taking notes of what works and what does not work.... This again is a personal experience of my game play, so DO NOT hold me accountable for any of your issues if they continue past what mine are.

I hope this proves helpful to alot of gamers out there, as for im having no issue with the game yet since i noted down all these issues i was having....

With regards to point 7 on your list, I honestly don't think everyones HD on their 360 are dying and in need of a new one. There is something to do with the DLC corrupting saves, no matter how many you create. It will wipe them all. Still, decent pointers. Common sense for the most part, but still you can take something from it.

That is some what true.... How ever with the ( 7. ) by being corrupt i am meaning that its not the game saving as a corrupt file, its the hard drive itself processing the game saying corrupt file.... Like i said i am running the game on the slim, which i have not been getting save issues.... my buddy on the other hand has the orinigal xbox, and he was getting the corrupt saves... he then went out and purchased a new hard drive... just the little memory, and since then he has not had the corrupt games.... reformatting the original hard drive may work, however thats years of game play for some users erased....

I keep my fingers crossed that you don't run into the issue. But, you can understand the frustration of many players. Why should they have to re-format their HD to compensate for a part-broken game which shouldn't have been released in the state it is currently in? You pay your £40/$60+, you fully expect to enjoy the experience and not "workaround" problems. Sure, there will always be bugs/glitches in a game such as this. But not to a point where save games are being corrupted and people are losing hours upon hours of gameplay.

Still, I'm patiently waiting for a patch. I'm confident that Beth/Obsidian can pull together and sort this one out. So I don't have to read the manual for the 11th time longing to play NV ha. :P

Ya very reasonable point you have there.... but at the same time, the problem still occured, which is why i came out with this little solution guide to try to lower the frustration of alot of gamers.... they did screw up big doing a pre mature release of this game, but it happens.... and it did in a pretty bad way to boot....

but on the brighter side, i found and figured out these solutions to the problems... which should prove helpful to alot of gamers.... because i did study and not what works and what does not... i spent more time exploring the mojave waste then i have on quests.... im level 21 and the rest has just been exploring and finding all the issues i have noted...

Kudos.

As I said with my first post, it should help a lot of players. Not a big fan of "workarounds", but you have still put the effort in to help with small tips for the community. I suppose if you want your Fallout fix you will have to "workaround". Still, I'd rather be "walkingaround" the Mojave Wasteland.

i would also like to add solution to the VATS issue....

go to gun runner.... BUY the riot shotgun.... Juice up your guns skill to at least 60.... buy [censored] loads of 12 gauge shells.... and you will have no use for VATS.... riot shot gun take out a death claw in 2-3 shots....

i definitely couldnt agree with you more... but at a pre mature state like this game, you can still "walk around" you just need to use the " work around " tecnique just to be sure of a steady game play.... as posted these are things that have gave me a promising gameplay and works wonders for me.... so i just hope other gamers can use my tips for a steady gameplay and enjoy there experience the same way i am....

Sorry to burst your solution bubble, but I have a two year old regular XBOX and have absolutely zero lag. The old systems can process the game.

as i have noted, these are issues i have come across which varies with different gamers..... this is merely some tips i have gathered between the knowledge of myself on a slim, and my buddy with the original which he has owned since the xbox was first released.... its more of a trouble shooting and work around guide....

According to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenon_(processor) and all the other web sites I could find that compared 360 models there is no difference in processor speed between the older 360's and the new slim 360. The newer chipsets are smaller and quieter and have fewer heating problems, but processor speed for all generations are identical so your point #6 is wrong. Your slim 360 is just as obsolete as the the original launch 360's it just comes packaged better with less risk of RROD.

I have a 120 GB Elite and did a full install and have had no save problems. My only freezes so far have occurred when I attempted to repair and equip a specific armor and helmet I pilfered from an NCR tent in Primm. I also noticed that my male character has a female voice when he takes damage and I've also experienced the collision problems with geckos seeming to drop into the ground but I'm pretty sure those are bugs since they've been reported on other platforms.

That's funny, because my obsolete launch model 360 has run this just fine during the 6-8 hours play times I've had each night.

It's not a hardware issue, it never was. It was poor testing (and obviously no testing of the DLC content as evidenced by the 10mm mod glitch) and poor coding, period. That's not to say that some people don't have bad hardware, but even with top shape hardware people are having these issues.

thats what i have noted.... the older processors tend to over heat alot easier.... as i said take breaks in the game play to allow the processor to cool down.... on the slim it does heat up, but not as much as the original xbox....

AGAIN..... as i stated in this topic to begin with.... these are all the things myself and a buddy have noticed and are helping to inform other people of.... this isnt something to be starting a debate over, its just some helping solutions to different issues i have read alot of gamers asking about....

Not what you said in point 6... you specifically slammed older machines stating they had slower processor speeds.

I regularly play for 5 or 6 hour sessions and so far no overheating problems or slowdown on my Elite, of course I've only had the game since Wednesday. :)

As i said its merely just what myself and buddy have read on the forums of the old machines..... 90% of the problems are gamers with old xbox

But when your solutions are wrong (I.E. buy a new slim or HDD) then they are neither informative or helpful.

I would be willing to bet that more than 90% of the 360's in existance are older models so of course more people with old machines are going to be reporting problems. If only 10% of the people playing are using the slim machines then that would mean all of them are having problems. Basic math and statistics.

I'm pretty sure the game only glitches and corrupts the game saves if you are under 5 foot 11 inches, i am 6'2" and have never experienced crashes..

i guess you all really dont know how to read?

to begin with, i have stated my experience with the game.... they are potential helpful tips... only 1 seems to be a bother for you all, which like i said in the beginning it could be right, it could be wrong.... i have also stated that this isnt a debate, its things i have noticed and also giving advice from....

everyone here is stuck on the fact of ( 6. ) being such an issue... as i have stated several times that its personal experience.... and i do believe that the old xbox is a piece of [censored] since i bought the new 360 slim.... because the performance IS better on the slim, even if reviews say it isnt.... when you experience it, it does show a great improvement....

i know people like to rip on each other for the whole PS3 vs. 360 debate..

but now it's "older" 360's vs. "newer" 360's?!?

lol

I think we can all agree the game itself is the problem, not our machines, not how we play the game, or how many times we save our game..

the only thing for sure is that we are all screwed until we get a real patch that at lest stops the game ending save corruption, DLC missing errors, frame rate drops, and freezing issues..

1. Always good advice
2. Rubbish and is more likely related to number 1. Over an extended period the cache will fill up and may slow the game down. Exit, clear cache, go back to game. Have fun.
3. Random bug is random.
4. Fair enough.
5. No comment. I know nothing of the VATS bug. I shall go and read.
6. All of the 360s have the same processor speeds. The difference is how they are manufactured. Lagging, freezing and glitching are related to the game being buggy and what you covered in #1.
7. Multiple saves is always good advice. But wow, blaming everybodies hard drives? Suddenly everybodies hard drives got corrupt just for this game? Seems highly unlikely. If your save game didn't corrupt, congratulations, you managed to avoid the bug. Don't dismiss it as a failing hard drive just because you didn't encounter it.

I think it's more of a writing and comprehension problem. You don't seem to comprehend that you stated inaccurate information in your original post. I understand that you believe your slim is faster and you believe that you get better performance, but the fact is that there is no difference in the processor speed. The hard drive issues may be a problem for some people, but I have 70 GB free on 120 GB drive so I don't think that's causing my problems.

In fact, the majority of Xbox gamers have old 360's. I do not believe that even 10% of the people playing this game on the 360 have new slim machines so if you are claiming that 10% of the problems are being reported by owners of the slim machines that to me would suggest that they are actually having more problems than owners of the older machines.

If your "friend" let his old 360 get dusty and kept it in a confined space, then yes, the extra heat that it generated could have slowed it down so that it wasn't performing as it should have. I too have an old 360 and it plays this game fine, no problems with saves or graphics performance. This game is definitely very buggy and I doubt very much research went into alpha or beta testing.
