SOLUTION: Major lag isseus

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2009 1:34 pm

Good day fellow gamers,

Having had this game for quite some time now, I can say with absolute certainty that there is NO LAG (for players connecting to me) if you host a game whilst having at least 200 to 250 KILOBYTES per second upload bandwidth (often referred to as 2 or 2.5 Mb/s up!)!

This makes perfect sense!

  • If you are hosting, please ensure that your internet connection can handle this amount of data.
  • Make sure your WiFi (in the case you are using WiFi) can easily upload at this rate otherwise you will still have problems! (I'll never recommend WiFi for time critical apps like games and VOIP, but if you must, just make sure you are close to the Access Point and that not many others are maxing out either the connection or the Access Point.)

Undoubtedly SD is working on reducing overhead debugging data.... but it's still in there, to debug!

Thanks SD for this great game and its support! Keep up the good work!

Shall I be honest? History shows that dedicated servers on external hosters deliver the best results regarding ping and performance. It's pretty obvious that hosting a game on your PC not only requires a decent upload bandwidth on your side, but also isn't the way PC games are played in multiplayer. So your "solution" is pretty obvious...

Modern WiFis should be able to handle that upload. Bottleneck is the ISP, e. g. your deal.

EDIT: Doesn't mean I wouldn't be glad if hosting personally would be possible, like with L4D2. My upload bandwidth, however, would even be too low for that.
