Solution to Spears

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:01 pm

Well correct me if this is repeated or im wrong.
So many of you have played NV- which had spears.
And for pc users just mod them From NV into Skyrim
(I dont know alot about files etc. but im sure im wrong due to not knowing alot about the diffrent engine)

way to have an unbiased poll :celebration: :celebration:
and it is a lot harder than you think, I know how to do it, but I dont have the means, becuase scripts dont update the skeleton too well for me
this seams kinda like a useless thread
although if anyone wants to know how to do it
make a spear mesh, get some animations, dump it into a new folder with the character skeleton
make a script along the lines of

begin onequip
setplayersketeon "directory of the skeleton in the same folder with the same animation"
end
begin onunequip
setplayersketeon "normal skeleton"
end

for some reason it doesn't update though

I don't think that's possible. I know of mods in OB that made NPCs have spears, but they couldn't get yourself to have/use one.

Modding any asset from one Bethesda game into another is a violation of the user agreement. Awhile back, there was a massive mod years in the making called Morroblivion, which used meshes and assets from the original Morrowind. Bethesda had the entire project nixed, and the entire affair caused much community drama. Unfortunately, what you are describing isn't likely to happen . . .

However, spears haven't been COMPLETELY eliminated from the Skyrim playing field. I think Todd Howard said that they weren't looking at spears "in the traditional sense," though I may be misquoting, I'm lazy. I know in Oblivion, people replaced the two-handed weapon animations with spear animations, made two-handed spears, and got their spears hat way -- but that won't apply to console players.

EDIT: Got my info from this thread on the Nexus forums. Yup, misquoted, but the meaning is intact. http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/286552-skyrim-information/

It wasn't a "there's a chance we'll add spears."

It was a "theres always a chance we'll change our minds but there won't be spears."

Translated from video game maker to English, that means, "There won't be spears."

Resistance is futile.

New engine. I doubt that's possible.

And as already said, not allowed.

You could theoretically mod the meshes and textures from one game to another but it is illegal. Even if you did that though you still need animations and a ton of other crap.

A better solution would be for Bethesda to just put them in the game.

they work just fine in mount and blade warband. the way they use them is they give you a reach advantage so you can strike first but if an npc gets to close your spear becomes useless since your inside its attack radius. spears would be perfect for first attacks or attacking something big that you have to stay far away from like the giants. but other weapons would be better suited for in close combat.
