Having a voiced protagonist is always a risky move as you actually have to record ALL that dialogue, but there were a few things that were left out that I feel would have made it feel more like how it should have.
What I mean by this is the Lone Survivor. You were happy living it up in good old pre-war land when all of a sudden you are thrust into chaos and find yourself being frozen. For you it feels like maybe an hour at most and now the world is in ruin. Codsworth tells you its been 200 years! After you help PressedHam Mc'Gravy he proceeds to hand you bottle caps and says good job.
This is where, I feel, there should have been a little addition of dialogue of
"What is this? Why are you handing me bottle caps?"
Gravy - "I'm giving you a reward for helping us."
"You use bottle caps for money?"
Gravy - "Umm, yea. Where have you been for the past 100* years?"
You would then be able to say, or avoid saying, about the vault.
You go from pre-war to post-war in what would feel like no time at all and just out right accept something you consider rubbish as money without a single word? I wouldn't.
Next would have been I guess a little tutorial into cooking. It seems like a pretty major part of gameplay. Cooked food removes its rads, restores more hp and often gives bonus effects. So why leave it untouched.
Sturges - "Ah, now that we have somewhere to sleep and water to drink we will need something to eat."
"I don't think food is going to be vary good."
Sturges - "You'll be surprised what you can make out here in the wastes. Mind you its no pre-war food, but with a few ingredients you can keep it down better."
Anyway, little things like that are what would make the game feel better to me. In FO3 there was at least a knowledge of what was outside the vault and New Vegas you weren't even from a vault so you knew the importance of cooking food, but with Fo4 the transition of pre to post war is fast and your acceptance without question is not right.
Anyone else feel this way?
