Some Beta Feedback and Your Thoughts

Post » Sun Mar 02, 2014 7:18 am

In my honest opinion, I was so psyched to play the beta but I have some issues.

1. It's too freaking dark even when I max out the brightness, which is doesn't change at all. So it may be broken and it hasn't been day time in the game in so long when I've played. So maybe this could be fixed if there's a day-time only option or the brightness slider actually works.

2. The game is disgusting if you don't have high qualities on. I don't have a gaming PC but it lags too bad if high settings are up so I'm forced with these disgusting Oblivion graphics. This could be fixed but at the cost of individual servers I'd think but I'll be playing on PS4 so hopefully the highest settings will run super smoothly on PS4.

3. The character creation was a disappointment. It all the races could use all the same facial hair that would make it way better. I want those muttonchops on my Wood Elf! Also, separating the adornment slider so there's a facial hair slider and accessory slider would be cool so you could put any facial hair you want with an eye patch.

4. I have to log out every time I skip the dialogues because I'm just staring at the NPC and can't move or anything, same with using the Smithing Forge and other things.

5. It crashes too much but it's probably just because it's a beta.

6. There should be more resources around for crafting so it seems abundant and not uncommon.

7. Make gold slightly easier to get and it seems like the crappy level 1 - 5 gear are over-priced. Not sure about the higher level gear though since I'm only level 5.

Those are just some of my thoughts as of now of the beta since I just can't deal with the pitch black anymore. What do you guys think, agree or disagree? Did it meet your expectations? Any of your feedback is welcomed.

I have some more thoughts:

ONLY 30 bank slots for all of your chars. This really is bad because if you are a crafter you can forget it. You cannot carry all the stuff around with you all the time and especially whilst you still practice with what ingredients parts you will need.

And then it is 1000 gold to get a few more bank slots? Heck and this is a pay to play game!

The constant freeze that happens to me about once every hour is getting me down! I believe it has been a common problem for over a year and apparently they don't know how to fix it. Great, maybe I should not buy this expensive game

When you freeze and type /stuck it kills you. Not only does it send you to the nearest waypoint but it also damages your items! All that due to a gaming bug that they know about but don't know how to fix??????

At level 4 I am still running around with my no armor value gear (and don't even have shoes) and to buy a new piece of armor for at least when I am level 5 it costs me about 600 to 700 gold. Great. I earn 1 gold per mob killed. But to transport to a waypoint costs around 40 gold. Stuff is just too overpriced (seems the producers want to make sure to keep the gold farmers and sellers busy!)

You dont find any armor either and quest rewards are totally different to your character class, I get things like shields and heavy armor stuff whilst I am a mage.

That's all for now. I am kind of upset about this, waited desperately for this game and am disappointed. Have to give it a break for now and come back later maybe.

As far as the armor goes you pretty much need to craft a set of gear. Not too hard to do once you find the nodes for it. The stuff you can buy from the vendors is a waste of gold for sure, all you need to buy from them is the racial stones to craft with.

In the beginning, it's cheaper to make your own gear with gathering items and crafting. Find jutes and turn them to light armor :) I made all my medium armors and on lvl6 I have full set on me :)

Freeze and stuck on merchants / craft tables is really annoying. Happens to me more the longer I play. /reloadui does work for this, though.

If you can type /stuck, then you're not frozen. Use /reloadui instead, and it won't kill you.

Sorry to hear it's not running good on your rig Eulogy. I believe it's also being released on Xbox and PS if you can't upgrade your computer.

@DenverRalphy, thanks for the information. And the night cycles must be long because I've played about and it's been night for over an hour.

@NukaRanger, yes, TESO is coming out for both consoles in June. Long road ahead but hopefully near the PC launch is the PS4 beta so I can play to my liking.

Yes the slot amount svcks, I ran out of room before I even left the first area before the town where I could sell any of the stuff I looted. :/

If by freezing you mean when you're stuck in a dialog, or crafting station where nothing works you can bring up the chat menu and type /reloadui that will get you to of it without having to respawn.

I was fully armored and equipped before I even got into town, and @ lvl 4 I had near 2k gold and green weapons/armor already.

I agree the quest rewards are not properly player specific.

Hit Enter to bring up the chat window and type /reloadui if you're stuck in a dialog/crafting table.

I find resources easy to find personally, hence why I probably have a ton of gold and gear @ lvl 4.

Gold seems somewhat easy for me, I just hit every node/chest/rune spot I see, while doing the quests.. I got well over 2k gold and decent gear @ lvl 4.

The one thing I noticed right away was that the majority of players were not opening chests etc in the prison area.. I created a circuit that included 6 chest and 10 mobs in a constant every refreshing loop that I farmed it till I was fully geared and my inv was full of nothing that was worth less then 5g each which gave me 250g+ in instantly sale able items. I think I had >800g once I found the first vendor, which is the first thing i did when I hit town.

Hmm, the lock picking mechanic just isn't working for me. I think I need to watch a couple of videos, as I've failed to open even easy chests.

A few thoughts of my own rather than starting another thread:

Pros:

1) I was quite happy with the character creation screen. I managed to quite nearly recreate my main from City of Heroes. Even found the right tattoo. :)

2) The chacter skills/combat mechanics are very nicely put together.

3) I've spent nearly the entirety of the last two days just exploring Bleakfall Isle. I wanted to get a feel for how the devs thought through their map designs. I'm really quite amused at some of the places I found a rune or a chest. Folks who just follow the quest markers are going to miss a serious amount of content.

Meh's:

1) Its obviously an MMO. The shear number of wolves/bears/spiders in such small areas is annoying to say the least. I think it would be reasonable to reduce the mob density just a bit.

2) Folks, yes its a beta, but please stop with the crap names. Yes, I'm talking to you McStabby Buttsecks. I'd like to think this won't happen when the game goes lies, but 6 years in City of Heroes says otherwise.

I've just about come down off the fence about buying the game. My one remaining bugaboo is whether or not I'm likely to find players here of the same quality and fun to hang with personalities as I did in CoX.

I took me a bit to get the hang of it as well.

You need to push the tumbler down till it starts to shake, thats when you let go. If your timing is right then it will lock in place as the shaking signifies the proper placement of the tumbler.

4: instead of using the /reloadui command use your mail hotkey it works the same and is way faster(no waiting)

6: totally agree resources can be very hard to find.Don't know if its the amount of players or a lack of nodes but something needs to done otherwise crafting is a huge pain.

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I can't stand how resources disappear for everyone when one person "swoops" in and uses it first. Same goes for chests.

I find that the easiest way, is to just start from one side and work one by one to the next in line until you get to the end (I personally go from right to left).

  • Important Note: Unlike previous TES installments, you're not trying to get all the tumblers down below a pre-determined line. Just push each pin until it starts to wiggle then let go. Sometimes the pin will still be near the top, but it'll lock into place and turn a darker shade of color.

The difficulty only affects how quickly the countdown timer depletes. There's a sweet spot at the pin wiggle. Let go too soon and it doesn't stick. Let go too late and the pick will break.
