Well, got Wrye Bash installed. Now, I know for a fact it's no longer a master file and is for certainty an ESP thanks to that. But, I'm still coming up with the same error. I try to save the mod, but it says it can't cause it's a 'master file or is in use'. However, I don't have Oblivion open, just the Construction Set thing, and I'm trying to save my work on it.

Well then......

Try an experiment. Load up the CS, with JUST oblivion. (no mods.) make a simple change, doesn't matter what. Save the file, exit out of CS, start it back up again, load up the "test" esp file, and set it active. Make another small change, try and save the file.

No. And we just confirmed with the Wrye Bash bit that that's not the issue.o_O It's saved as an ESP file, but it only lets me save it the first time. It won't let me save it any times afterwards. Says it's in use or somethin'.

Try and not use 'special characters' in the mod name. Make it simple like 'mymod'. Do NOT type in the extension. Do NOT change the directory where the CS tries to save it. It should be in your game folders "data" folder.

Exit the CS. Do not test the mod in the game.

NOTE: When was the last time you rebooted your computer? That might also help if its been a while.

Restart the CS and click on your mod, click the 'set active plugin' button. It will automatically checkmark your mod and set it as the 'active plugin'. Click Ok.

Make a change.

Click the black 'floppy disc' icon on the toolbar to save it. This will ensure your not trying to change the name of the mod.

Uninstall the CS. Empty recycle bin. Do a cold boot. (actually shut down your computer, so it turns off.) Re-download the CS, reinstall it. See if that makes any difference.

I would also suggest uninstalling the game.

And when you reinstall the game, DO NOT install it to the default 'program files' directory. Install it to another drive if you have one, or to your root C: drive.

He's on XP, so, install location shouldn't matter.

It 'should' not matter, but there are less options as to why its happening.

Also, is Windows XP 'Professional' 2002 different from the regular XP? Anyway, it could not hurt either way.

So far as I know, WinXP Pro is all the same once all the updates are installed. (aside from the 32/64 bit version difference.)

Yeah, that "S" word can be a real pain. :D

Well, tried to uninstall and reinstall like you said. Somehow, it still messed up the same way. I also tried to install the patcher file to upgrade the Construction Set. For some reason, it wouldn't. Saying it couldn't find the original file, though it could find a file with the same name.o_O

Patcher file for the CS? I wasn't aware there was one. There are two different version of the CS though..... latest is 1.2 something or other. (and the lip sync file creation part is busted....)

Well, I got the Construction Set and the Patcher from here: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/The_Elder_Scrolls_Construction_Set Perhaps their programs are faulty or somethin'?

That's interesting.... I just usually grabbed the latest version of the CS....... Might want to see if you can find that instead, and see if it is any happier. Should be available for direct download somewhere.

I 'think' the v1.2 'Patcher' is only needed if you have v1.0 installed and it will patch the CS to v1.2.

Just download and install the full v1.2 and you should be fine.

http://www.fileplanet.com/161754/160000/fileinfo/Elder-Scrolls-IV:-Oblivion-Construction-Set is the latest, fully patched version. (so far as I know, this isn't any different than what you get from the wiki page..... I have never used a patcher on my CS though, and it is the same version that I have..... )
