some fallout "icons" are missing NV ?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 3:09 am

Rubbish.

Again, the whole "Radio with DJ commentary" thing was added in Fallout 3. It wasn't there in the 4 games that preceded Fallout 3.

Do you even know what Icon means? Or...do you in fact know that Fallout 3 was the fifth Fallout game?

I think it's technically sixth, right?? Fallout, Fallout: 2, Tactics, Van Buren, Warfare, and Brotherhood of Steel, oh Fallout online too, but I guess you couldn't count that one. lol

In my eyes Caesar is a selfish, murderous bastard. And the factions were supposed to be shades of gray, though it ended up with Caesar being a darker shade and NCR the lighter shade, and the game pushes you to help the NCR and despise Caesar... which I do and did.

Maybe it's just me, but I have no idea what you're saying. I disagree with most of this 'list', if you even want to call it that.

I know how you feel.

I'm also only counting games that were made and released, so Van Buren doesn't get counted. :D

Well he's technically correct on that one. It's not a Fallout icon but the AK-47 is widely regarded as the most used assault rifle in history. I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a conflict in the past 50 years where one hasn't been used.

Russian AK-47 - Fallout Tactics

Chinese Type 56 - Fallout 3 - Though not technically the AK-47 it is basically a copy of the design.

i know there is been a lot of critiques, but things that make fallout unique just not there any more ?

I`ve played new vegas for a good cuple of hours, finished main quest line and ..i feel something is missing but what ?

Beggers ? First thing that cach my attencion in fallout 3 was this guys begging for water , they are fallout icon and shud not be removed just changed

Bad guys ? ..Legion looks to me more like heroes than really bad guys, it needs to be more realistic faction

I'm really not sure what you are getting at with some of that stuff...but
1. Beggers...good [censored] riddance to those water beggars. They were karma machines to correct what you may have done intentionally or not. They were a transparent game mechanic for you to be "evil" but still good because consequences can be easily overcome and corrected.

2. Legion doesn't look evil enough? Frankly I was glad to see Legion and all the gangs and raiders out there not decorating with limbs and hung bodies anymore. That was just stupid. And while I don't think Legion looked like good guys, that works in their favor if they do. Heck I would want my blood thirsty army to look like mother Teressa and Gandhi rather than wrapping themselves in entrails. The concept that raiders love gore decor from F3 was stupid.

No, I'd rather not have a mission where, after the Legion works ghouls to the point they collapse, they take them away, expose them to more radiation, turn them into Glowing Ones, and use them as weapons that my Courier has to stop. I've run into enough feral ghouls as it is, I sure as heck don't want more in the game.

"Icons" are things instantly recognizable; like the two headed brahmin and Nuka Cola. Most of the rest of what you wanted is just that, what you wanted. Other people can have different opinions on what they want in their game.

Oh, didn't know that it was in Tactics, but Tactics broke alot of canon didn't it? Or was that Brotherhood? And I knew about the CAR, I guess you could call it a very bulky, square version of a AK-47. I personally, would like the return of the R91 Assault Rifle or the FAL, the G3 and FAL are my favorite rifles.

Fallout Icons?

the Vaults
Vaultboy
Pipboy
Super Mutants
Ghouls
the 50's "world of tomorrow" outlook in both style of architecture and in the crazy weapons (ray guns, vacuum tube robots)
Dark humor
Power armor
Deathclaws (maybe)

You forgot turnbased combat, and wholly statdriven gameplay.

There aren't and you can't. The biggest explosion you'll see is the mini-nuke out of the Fat Man.

Well, in all fairness those are about the first thing the OP has mentioned as "icons" of Fallout that might actually be- you had at least one option to set off a nuke in Fallout, one in Fallout 2, and then of course Megaton in Fallout 3.

Also of course, in the first two they were means to a particular endgame, where in Bethesda's Fallout it was "Hey, let's blow this town up just for giggles...or not, your choice."

Caesar was a conqueror. His empire enslaved people and oppressed conquered cultures. As a conquering empire they could have been worse, sure, but Caesar as a hero? Hardly. He was probably a hero to a lot of the Romans (especially the rich ones), I'll give you that. If you asked some innocent person whose family was killed during an attack by Roman soldiers in which Rome was the aggressor or whose town was enslaved by the Empire if they thought Caesar was a hero what do you think they'd say?

If the Caesar in NV succeeds in conquering the region would the local history books see him painted as a hero? Probably. To me the Legion is a pretty clever "villain" to add to a setting like this.

Well by Postmoler standards Hitler was a "Hero" too. For without Hitler we wouldn't have allot medical advances as we do now. And for Caesar and the Romans they had an influence in many development of languages, religion, architecture, philosophy, law, and forms of government in the territory it governed, particularly Europe, and by means of European expansionism throughout the modern world.

Softnerd, I agree it's just an masked villain with corrupted people behind one's beliefs. Sounds like the Nazi's don't it?? lol Killing massive people for any reason is wrong by my opinion. idc if it's middle eastern people, Chinese, Japanese, blacks, whites, Jews, Massive slaughter is just horrible. It's life in war, but it's still not right.

Yep, sometimes good things come from war. The Romans brought a lot of technology and socio-economic enlightenment to the world, and the fact that their economy was driven by conquest and slavery doesn't change that. Seeing Caesar or the Roman Empire as an absolute "good" or "evil" is really short-sighted. The world just isn't painted in black and white like that. The thing that's interesting is that someone like Caesar being viewed as a hero or a villain completely depends on where you're standing.

This is what makes the Legion particularly fitting of the Fallout universe. In fact, this is the way the Enclave should be portrayed as well (IMO). Depending on where you're standing you could see them both as heroes or villains.

While I was thinking about this it occurred to me that the writers for FO3 may have missed an opportunity for a twist at the end of that story. How awesome would it have been, if your character chose to dump the modded FEV into the water purifier, if you found out that Dad had been working with the Enclave toward that end all along? Kinda gives "Project Purity" a whole new meaning, don't it? :P
