Some great ideas for Brink 2 (or the sequel to Brink)

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 11:29 am

Hey Splash Damage and all the devs, what’s up?. First of all, I have to say that I’m a big fan of your work and your games, and now Brink beign released, I realized that this is a shooter with tons of potential, and I feel bad it didn’t turn out to be a critically acclaimed game, but there’s still hope, and people, like me, who are actually enjoying it besides all the issues, so hopefully Brink will have enough sells to be able to produce a sequel (if its possible), and right now I have some great ideas i’ll love to share with you

Main Features:

- Story & Setting: The sequel will take place “x” number of years after the events of the first Brink, and will be set once again at the Ark, where the two factions, “security” and “resistance”, after realizing that they shouldn’t suffer anymore losses with their ongoing conflicts, they decide to create a peace agreement and unify their actions in order to keep strong their actions for survival, so with this peace treaty, they form the UFS (United Front for Survival). But, theres a problem, as some members from the last factions (security and resistance) joined forces with the UFS, other members gone rogue and decided to try corrupt and break the peace agreement, starting more armed conflicts and putting the city of Ark at the brink of civil war once again; all of this rogue members formed the Rebels faction, whose leaders and most wanted members are marked on the black list.

- Linear Single Player Campaign: I know you guys specialize in multiplayer gaming and all, but, in order to break the mold and find succes doing a complete game, you guys make sure to create a lengthy and enjoyable single player campaing that could require a couple hours (at least 8) to comple.

- Single Player Campaign Charaters:
- The Player (Main Role Character): The player will take the role of a mercenary who goes by the name “insert name here”, and after getting his family killed, his out to put an end to the armed conflicts, and joins the UFS in order to stop all the chaos before he waits for his dead.
- The Commander: I believe this role could be played with a woman, though a man could fit with this role too, so I’ll leave this one for you. This character will be the one who will give orders to the player and his squad
- The Engineer: This man will obviously be a smart tech guy, with lots of experiencie on vehicles and other machines
- The Soldier: This should be a man with a heavy body type, and as for the rest, lets say his name and backgrounds, I’ll leave it to your imagination
- The Medic: I believe a likeable medic would be a woman with a light body type, but if you guys won’t put women on the game, then a man with a light or medium body type should do fine
- The Operative: This Is a man with a shady past, he has a medium or light body type, and the rest is up to you
- Antagonist/Enemy characters: A ruthless man or woman who seeks to either take over or destroy the Ark

- Single Player Storyline: The game will see the player joining the UFS to put a stop to the ongoing conflicts with the Rebels in the Ark, so he meets up with a squad composed with an engineer, a soldier, a medic and a operative. At the beginning of the first mission, the player and his squad, while they are riding a militar armored vehicle on a convoy, they suddenly get shot down, and the squad splits, and you as the player is up to find all your squad members and take down all the rebel’s forces before is too late. (Subject to change)

- Other Single Player features:
> Raid, support, hack, destroy, attack and escort missions
> An infiltration mission, that let you as the player, disguise as an enemy dead soldier in order to infiltrate a rebel compund
> Proper singleplayer AI for both, NPC and enemies, that knows how to take cover, flank and/or retreat
> Customizable player (optional, if you guys don’t want to create a fictional hero)
> Ability to give commands to your squad (optional)
> Slow motion ability (optional)

Multiplayer Features: First of all, I have to tell you guys, that for this game it’ll be neccesary to release a public beta or demo before releasing the retail version in order to fix all connection issues and have the game all tested out, and I know it costs extra money, work and development time, but the importance of a beta is huge

- Multiplayer Factions:
> UFS
> Rebels

- Multiplayer Maps/Missions:
- Ark’s Prison: A fortress like prison with undergound floors and open surroundings will be a great place to begin a multiplayer campaign
- Shipment Boat: Now, for this one, picture a big cargo boat nearby a bay or dock, with some containers on the deck, and machine and control rooms. If you guys manage to create this map, I swear most of the players will love it
- Ark’s Eco Park: A park with some gardens and fountains to keep varied all the multiplayer enviorements
- Ark’s Metropolis: Urban streets and avenues will be great for an all out multiplayer war
- Construction Site: As the name suggests, why not create a construction site map of I don’t know, lets say an hotel or mall, or whatever.

…and many other maps set in the Ark

- New Class Abilities:
> Soldier Abilities:
- Airstrike: how about giving the soldier the ability to throw a smoke grenade to unleash a deadly or lethal airstrike
> Engineer Abilities:
- Remote Controlled Drones: Like the name says, how about letting the engineers have the ability to throw a remote controlled drone with an automatic gun turret
> Medic Abilities:
- Poison Injection: This ability will let a medic inject to the enemy a deadly poison that will drain his health bar to zero, if one of their medics doesn’t heal him first (counter)
> Operative Abilities:
- Stealth Enhancer: how about giving the operative the ability to be invisible for 10 seconds or more

- Other Single player/Multiplayer features:
> Drivable armored vehicles, like tanks, humvees-like vehicles, and pickups with mounted guns
> New weapons like: an AK-like assault rifle called “FK150”; an P90-like submachinegun called “PRN95”; a big heavy flamethrower called “Hellfire”; and a rpg with normal and heatseeker versions
> Customizable player, with more customization options
> 24 player support (optional)
> Other multiplayer modes like: conquest, search and destroy, etc. (optional)

Well, that’s all I thought out for the sequel if it’s ever going to happen, sorry for my english and the grammar mistakes, I’m still getting the hang of it. I don’t expect any feedback from anyone, but if you believe there’s room for more features or improvements, then feel free to share it here

PS: If this sequel is created, gets released and has success (hopefully), I might as well start giving some ideas for the next entry in the series

The boat and jail maps sound sick. I have to give you props man, I was expecting another thread requesting the game become more like COD, not a well thought out post.

Good job, and may I present you with a gift of great power, this turtle :turtle:

Brink 2 Better take place outside the Ark...>_>

Nevermind. Can't make it so spoilers can't be seen.

But if anyone beat the game, and listened to the Audio Diaries will know what I mean.

Nice ideas, but im really not keen on the vehicles part..It sounds too much like Bad Company, and though that game is great, they are different...The map size and design is perfect for what the game was made for - Parkour. The idea of vehicles and stuff would be forced to make the maps hugely increased in size..and making them "car friendly"..Which would remove alot of the fun jump around slide and shoot parts....

Also..The 'Airstrike' ability..Also a nice thought.. Also abit too Bad Company and again would need a bigger map...

All of your ideas are great and I can see you've put alot of thought into them, but I think if they were implemented into BRINK.. It would really make me question buying the sequel.

I'm glad some of you liked these ideas, and KIZZIE92, you made a good point right there, you sure are a experienced Team Fortress player, but what i'm trying to suggest with these ideas and features, is to raise the bar up a notch and see how the people would react or like about it. Idk, maybe i'm expecting too much for the sequel, maybe not, i just hope that splash damage take it into consideration before they start planning doing the sequel

No women as playable characters, it wouldn't fit the story.

Many of these ideas sound like you want the game to be more like every other first-person shooter out there. I think vehicles will ruin the gameplay completely, they didn't put the SMART movement system in so you could waste it sitting in a jeep. Also the linear single player setting and characters sound so cliche and two-dimensional and like every other game released in the last few years. Also the Airstrike ability will once again make this game too similar to Battlefield Bad Company and Call Of Duty, which it definitely should not be. Furthermore I admire your childlike innocence and hope, but the company will not be making a game based on your ideas, you're someone who's just posted this up on the forum they may not even read. And like someone else said, Brink has just come out, who's to say the company will even get a chance to make a sequel with the critical response the game has received. 24 player online is very very difficult to incorporate without huge technical issues on the consoles. Public beta is a great idea, but pretty obvious and also not taking into account that betas cost a lot of money to do. This isn't Bungie or Epic games here. Splash Damage are a small company.

Sorry to appear so harsh in my critique but you have to be realistic about these things.

Overall I like the ideas. I would leave out vehicles though. With all that mobility in your hands already you wouldn't need one.

Also airstrikes. I think they could work. Enemy Territory used them pretty well, and it didn't have gigantic maps. But I think they would need a huge cool down, and possibly use a good chunk of your energy pool.

Some good ideas there, but:

But the player should be able to choose either sides like right now, instead of just UFS.

I think the airstrike ability will be overpowered. Maybe just smoke grenade, or even better, tear gas to disrupt the enemy's accuracy and vision.

Vehicles will overcrowd the Ark's narrow spaces. There will be extremely little space for any military vehicle to manouver.

I like the idea of resistance and security joining together, would create a nice dynamic with the tension between team mates still under the surface, but I'd have the other side as invaders from outside the ark, come to steal loot and plunder. It's the only thing that would give both sides a solid enough reason to fight together.

i'd like simple things like the engineer able to repair his turrets when ever instead of when they're damaged and i'd like to decide color scheme for my outfits as well as design so i could have like a orange and black tiger stripe camo shirt instead of green, giving us all a lot more diversity and personalization like wise i'd like skins for my weapons nothing gold like CoD i'd like to stay as far from that as possible, but a choice between fire paintings or skulls leading from butt-to-barrel would be nice.

p.s. i'd also like to stay away from any uav's, airstrike's, attack chopper's, dog attack's, hummer call in's or even tactical nukes as much as possible as well.

I don't like this. I don't like the idea of the two teams joining up, or your character already being set up with a name and history and stuff. That kind of takes away from the "Not Just Another Hero" idea. If this were to be the sequel, I would be very sad.

Well, seems like nobody likes the idea of vehicles on the game, so 'im ruling it out.. and "13967237", if you have any better ideas, be my guess; like i said before, i'm not expecting them to create a sequel with all these features i posted, is their IP (Intelectual Property), so is up to them if they want to make a sequel after all

It's too early to tell. This is not a franchise like Call of Duty, Killzone, or Gears of War, etc, (yet), but a new IP that needs to keep/get an audience and tons of support first before it can flourish into a franchise .

I would like SD to work on supporting on the newly released 1st game than something that's far in the future. They need to patch/fix things for the
1st one before they think of a second game, is what I think. ^_^

If they do make a sequel to Brink (and i hope the do a year or two from now) I would prefer if itd be a spiritual sucessor. i.e. not Brink 2. A game that takes the same gameplay and feel but plot and everything is completely unrelated. Let them finish up the Arks story with dlc and then move on to a new (better) story. ( and please not to much emphasis on thugs vs fuzz like leave the option there for those that want that kind of look but make some stuff for people that want to be...normal i guess).
