Some improvements on Voice Acting

Post » Mon Jun 07, 2010 12:31 am

Some gripe I had with OB and FO's voice acting:

1. I'm pretty sure everyone is sick of it, the NPC's change voices. Like when you talk to a beggar she uses smooth voice to speak unique conversation with you , and then when saying good bye she's back to the scratched voice. Even NV still has this problem, so we can't just blame on voice acting being "new". Four years have passed and still we have this issue.

2. NPCs can't seem to ignore you while they ignore others. Have you ever followed an NPC in a quest, and if you are too close he'll turn around and say hello to you, and stand for a few seconds before moving on? Very annoying. The NPC's should have "chatty mood" and "quiet mood" at different times, and they should ignore you at random times.

3. American accent. In FO it is ok, but in Oblivion, is everyone in Cyrodiil American? Heck even in America people have different accents. In Oblivion we lost the Morrowind-style dark elf voice, and we need it back this time. Also, different races should have different accent, such as bretons with british accent, nords with either Slavic or Scandinavian, and such. By the way, I do recognize that the dummers in Morrowind have that voice is due to the volcanic ash there.

4. Not about voice, but the gestures and body language. The only body language I have seen so far is the "put the hand on the hip" thing. We definitely need realistic and DIVERSE body language.

1. Yeah, it shows poor game development and a lack of inspiration to create a polished game.

2. Yeah, I don't mind it, though they could work on it.

3. I want the Dark Elves to have a different voice solely on the fact I don't think they should should like every other Mer race.

4. Anything's better than Oblivion's...

Two Worlds. Your statement is moot.

@OP I agree on everything you said.

Adding one more, people should use non-english at occasional times. For example, when two Argonians meet each other, they might use their own language to talk, and you get subtitles.

Good idea.

I'd vote for more individual voice acting as well - the one voice per race-thing just seems lazy. I do know how boring it is to Lip dialogue with the CS, but hey, the devs are paid for this, not only for the exciting work. Of course it will rise production costs, but it will be worth the effort.

Bring back Morrowind's voice actor for Dark Elves!

I saw a video before on youtube where Todd Howard demonstrated the AI in Oblivion before its release (I've tried searching for it again... but haven't found it).
There, in that video, a dark elf spoke, and he had the same voice actor from Morrowind (at least it sounded like it).
For some reason, they must have deleted his voices before the release :(

If Morowind's voice actor for Dark Elves is unavailable, then... choose someone that can sound kinda the same :/

No, Two Worlds was just more of a enjoyable experience than Oblivion for me.

Hope they take a cue from L.A. Noire's facial animations. And better voice acting is a must.

If I go to one more beggar and hear three different voices (a beggar, then a noble, then back to beggar etc.,) I will lose all control and go super saiyan all over that [censored].
