Some info on engi

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:51 am

I was planning on playing engi first when I got Brink, but I really dont know much about them. Can you upgrade your turrets at all? CAn you pick them up and move them TF2 style? IS it possible to make small command posts?

Can you upgrade your turrets at all?

No. You need to buy seperate abilites for that. Lv 1 turrets at level 5, Lv 2 turrets at level 10, lv 3 turrets at level 20.

CAn you pick them up and move them TF2 style?

No.

IS it possible to make small command posts?

No, but you can buff existing ones. Each CP your team owns gives everyone a health or supply pip buff, and you can double that.

Note that CPs are NOT spawnpoints, and that CP's are also required for any sort of loadout change

thanks, just to clarify, the "upgrades" are permanent once you unlock them at certain levels?

All info is posted from Brink Compendium Horse created http://www.fileplay.net/channels/iseries/i42/13661/insomnia-42-ilive-byte-4?page=3. If you have any questions or want some info check it out can find pretty much anything you may have questions on.

ENGINEER: Establish and defend tactical zones, deploy or repair objectives, and improve your team's weapons.

- They can deploy multiple types of turrets, and can lay landmines.
- Can build and repair objectives
- Can disable Soldier charges with a freezing agent.
- Operative can hack things – Engineer’s can destroy the hack box that is on the objective.
- Can lay landmines
- Engineers can improve their deployables, get better at upgrading weapons, and can alter Command Post bonuses.
- The main deployables in Brink are the turrets. Any Engineer can put down one turret in a location of their choosing; deploying a second turret removes the first.
- Engineers will not start out with turrets and mines. They will have to purchase them via the ability screen. Each will count as an active ability.
- Mines are available early on, but turrets aren’t available to after level 5.
- Turrets are really best thought of as 'distractions.’ They generally don't get kills by themselves (unless someone's not paying attention at all), but they do make the enemy keep moving, to distract them for a few key seconds so you can surprise them.
- As of now, the Engineers damage buff will boost weapon damage by 15%. Since it is likely there will be more than 1 rank in the buff, this may increase.
- Engineers appear to be able to buff weapons from lvl 1.
- When a player receives a damage buff, the buffed weapon will glow gold, to signal other players that they are carrying a buffed weapon.
Engineers will also be able to buff armor.

(more on turrets)

- Turrets can miss fast-moving players, but smart Engineers will place them where evading is hard for opponents to manage.
- They have limited scanning both horizontally and vertically, and a limited range.
- When used tactically they are extremely powerful, and their raw lethality can be adjusted by how an Engineer chooses to spend their ability points.
- There are 3 levels of turrets you can purchase, each one more powerful than the last.

Abilities I have heard of:

Standard Engineer Kit – Engineers can complete Construction and Repair objectives and can boost their teammates’ weapon damage.

Light Turret – This lets you plant a light auto-turret which will detect and fire at enemies.

Nerves of Steel - Nerves of Steel lets you disarm explosives even faster.

ENGINEER

- Ed Stern mentioned a Kevlar plate ability, where Engineers can toss Kevlar plates to teammates for more armor. This appears to be the “Kevlar Armor” ability I listed in the Compendium, under soldier abilities.
- Was also mentioned that Engineers can get an ability to increase the amount of mines they have.
- The Engineer’s Damage Buff will stay active if you are incapacitated and revived. It only disappears if you respawn.

You have 20 levels.

Every time you level up, you can buy one ability.

If you spend them all on passive abilities, and any class-specific ones are only for one class, you'll have all of them active any time you're playing as that class.

But you can't have any active abilities, and you only have the class-specific abilities you chose when you're the right class for them to kick in.

There's a balance there.

Now I see, I thought there were some general active abilites, not all passive.

However, just in case you didn't know, there aren't 20 universal abilities. You will have to take some class-specifics at some point.

Wait if it's twenty does that mean without doing any thing you get one free point to use? Like I start the game and immediately can buy grenade shooting?

But you can get to level 2 just by watching tutorials, so if you're willing to sit and learn a bit (or go have some coffee while you SHOULD be learning how the game works), you can get 2 free points to start you off.

Care to explain the 'Upgrade Teammate's Turret' objective in http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r122/TheJerm91/zomgturretupgrade.jpg then? I'm not trying to be an ass, I actually have a thread asking about it http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1178443-two-things-i-really-havent-seen-covered/page__p__17434284#entry17434284 and I never got a definitive answer.

If you have one, that would be great. Answers to my other two questions would work too. :P

Maybe you can buff their weapons like you can for players?

I've never heard anything about that, but that picture's from an older version of the game. It's very possible you haven't gotten a solid answer because the developers have scrapped it.

Yea you will most likely be able to buff turrets just like you can for teammates weapons.

Perhaps, considering the wording for 'Upgrade Teammate's Weapon' in the picture as well. Just seems kind of strange to me for some reason...

I've never heard anything about that, but that picture's from an older version of the game. It's very possible you haven't gotten a solid answer because the developers have scrapped it.

Oh I'm well aware it's from an older build (Container City Preview 3), but I haven't heard any mention of it period, much less any indication of it being scrapped. I know its removal is definitely a possibility, but I'd still like to know what it did even if it was removed. And if it hasn't been removed... I'd at least like to know it still exists.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Also, considering this is an engineer focused thread, I figure I may as well re-post this question:

EDIT: Third question that was asked 20 posts into the thread:

If I am playing as an Operative and I hack an enemy engineer's turret, does that turret despawn when that engineer places another? Or better yet, does that engineer lose the ability to create a new turret until the one I control dies?

In addition, I noticed in the GT-TV video that turrets can be repaired - could engineers on my team repair this turret?

Feel free to reply in this thread or my old one, doesn't matter to me either way.

EDIT: @Wraith - Operatives could disguise in that build also, and they still can now. I figure the same principle could apply here. Hell, as you well know molotovs were scrapped and then re-implemented, so that's always a possibility as well.

I am assuming once they are hacked they have to be destroyed to lay another one or that just becomes the enemies turret and you can build another one.

That would make sense and be fair. Imagine the annoyed operative, successful hack, wtf where did my turret go/ why did my turret explode?

Yea that wouldn't be very fair to the Operative if that happened. My guess is that once it is hacked it is the enemies and you can lay another turret but they will keep the previous one until destroyed or re- hacked by Operative on your team.
