Some kind of odd hill... thing [PC]

Post » Sun Sep 11, 2011 10:16 pm

I was just running through Leyawiin, and I noticed an odd hill-like structures (with horrible textures, it was basically brown). I could walk through it, so gameplay-wise it's as if it wasn't even there. It also was in the castle courtyard. So I went south of the city, and a massive one was coming up out of the river and extending into the city a bit.

What is that? Anyone know any fixes?

I'm running Qarl's Texture Pack III Redimized, if that helps.

It looks kind of like http://www.alquier.org/TES/images/Oblivion/Bug-MissingMesh-ft-nikel.jpg, but it isn't yellow, there's no exclamation mark, it's massive, and it just looks like a big hill.

I'm trying to take one. I changed the ini file to allow me, and when I press "Prt Scr" it says the screenshot was created, but I can't find it.

I used tcl and saw that there are two: one large massive one that expands over the river, into the castle courtyard, and a bit into the city.

Then there is another, pretty small one inside of the city.

Running on Vista? Or win7? Have the game installed in the Program files folder? May have to do a search for .bmp files.... (bitmaps.) Or, search for "screenshot" as part of the file name. Probably hidden away in some compatibility folder somewhere. Have to change the file format to upload anywhere though, there are free programs like paint, that will do that for ya. Just open the screenshot in whatever program you get, go to File->Save As, and then change the format to .jpg, or similar. (there will be a dropdown in the bottom of the window to select the format you want. You can rename the file as well. Then, just upload to photobucket, or imageshare, or similar..... and post a link here. (image tags are disabled on the beth forums, so, not directly posting pics in the thread. Darn.)

Windows 7, and it's in Program Files (x86).

I know how to upload them and everything, I just can't find the file. Should I try solution #2 http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/How_To_Create_Screenshots_Using_Oblivion is talking about?

FRAPS is a good alternative. Turning off UAC probably isn't a good plan. Uninstalling the game, and then reinstalling it elsewhere would be a better plan. (C:\Games\Oblivion for instance) Getting the game out of the program files directory will only make your life easier. :D

Alright, http://imageshack.us/f/233/oblivion201109101043175.jpg/.

I just used tcl and went up so you could see the whole thing. I'll go get a screen of the smaller one if you like.

Take a look at your oblivion.ini, located in My Games\Oblivion. Find the setting:

fLODLandVerticalBias

And see what it is set to. If it is zero, try setting it to -512. See if that don't fix it. If it is greater than zero, set it to zero.

Alright. I'm not actually with it now, but I will later.

However, how will this affect places where I have no issues?

Shouldn't affect them at all.

If that does indeed solve the problem, might wanna pic up on TES4LODGen, and give that a whirl. (yep, we are going to force you to learns some of the tools of the trade for this game. :D) It's worth it. Believe me.

LOD is 'load on demand', or some such silliness. Its the method the game uses to load distant objects. (so you get those horrendously long views of the mountains, and the tower in IC) I think what you are seeing there is some LOD mesh that isn't unloading as it should..... that, and the game is notorious for odd behavior. Running the LOD tool, should fix those errors, and you can put your ini back to stock. (at least, theoretically, that's how it should work......)

When I get back to my PC I'll try that ini fix. If it doesn't work, I'll go for that program.
