Some More Stuff

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 9:10 pm

I don't post very often. But there are certain things that just deserve some major props.

Dirnae, your work has returned me to Morrowind after an extended hiatus. For that, and all of your hard work, you have my gratitude.

And while I'm at it I think I'll throw my hopes for beast race animation replacements with all the others before me. I play in first person though, so at least I don't have to watch my character wobble all day. Besides, it's your project. Go at your own pace and take on whatever order you want.

You've done an amazing thing for this game. I'll root for you all the way, man.

Thanks a lot, it's really great to hear that! I'll definitely get to the beast animation replacer eventually.
I'm going to finish some more normal race animations first though before tackling them, as I think they'll require more skill to get it right.
I'm also wondering if I can give the argonians and khajiits unique animations using the argonian swimming animation.

Update time!
http://s647.photobucket.com/albums/uu195/mark507_album/morrowind/animations/?action=view¤t=Movie_0011.flv

It's not finished yet, but feel free to give criticism anyway.
The stance needs to be changed to suit other weapons better, and I need to get rid of an annoying weapon bone twitch which just wont go away. :meh:

I decided to go with a more crouched lower stance, I'm wondering how easy you can see sneaking NPCs with this, using NPC enhanced.
Also this animation made me realise something which is hard to notice with Morrowind characters, their legs are too long. :D

Well, once I've polished it up, and finished the 1-handed and normal sneakforward; animations, I'll upload them for testing. :)

I always found that characters sneaking around stood out more than characters just walking because of the exaggerated sneaking animation, which is rather silly considering its purpose. But no more! :)

Nauturally with a low pose like that your hip would move a bit, unless you've taken Ballet classes which damages your brain severely and makes you move in weird ways =)

Other then that, SPLENDID work!

If you don't mind my input, your animations are fantastic!

But I still think that in the sneak animation, the PC and/or NPC should be crouching lower, to keep a low profile. That's just me. Also, seeing as you took some inspiration from Monster Hunter, why not use the Sword and Shield stance from Monster Hunter for a shield and 1H weapon idle stance?

Not overly flashy, but visually pleasing, and a tad more logical, since the character has the shield in front of him, and his legs are bent as if to dampen the hits to the shield and whatnot. Monster Hunter has some real nice animations.

I'm curious to see what Sneaking looks like with no weapon/shield. Or do the arms act the same?

I like it though. edit: remove pointless thought

Very, very cool stuff - your new animations could really bring a whole new life to Morrowind, this is something the game has been really missing amidst all the other improvements that have come along over the years.

There's a slight rotation already, though I'll increase it.

The monster hunter sneak was my first thought, I found it tough getting a nice position and movement going though. I'll give it a go again.

I might have to do a few sneak animations for different tastes.
As for the weapons, I might take some elements from Monster Hunter, but I'd have to tone down some of the poses for the first version.

Looks good, but when his righ foot htis the ground there seems to be an unnatural jitter.

I think it's a looping issue, it's easy enough to fix.

I haven't finished the normal sneakforward; animation yet, and I have to edit the sneak idle to suit all the weapons.
If you've got any suggestions for a sneak stance, post them up! :)

How about a splinter cell inspired sneak animation? The animations in those games look so smooth and realistic, I really like them.

Can you post a video of the splinter cell sneak animation?
I haven't played the game myself, but if I know what it looks like, I'll give it a go.

edit: I have actually got a new version of the sneak with the suggested fixes, and it's a lot lower too.
I'll try to get a video up soonish. :)

I assume this is what he meant.

EDIT: What about a new spellcasting idle/animation? Is there a way to make a spellcasting animation where you're still holding your weapon, and fire a spell with your off hand?

Thanks for the link. That shoould be doable.

About the spellcasting idle, there are some few problems with that.

1) Still have to switch to spellcasting.
2) Wouldn't be able to have a shield, having the weapon out might be doable.
3) All weapons would use the same spellcasting stance, it'd have to be one-handed really, which would only look good with some weapons.
4) The upper body wont swing as you run and walk, as the spellcasting run and walk is just a mish mash between the normal run/walk and the spellcasting idle by the engine.

Then again, at the same time, I'm not sure what'd look good.

I was thinking I could play it safe, and have it similar to the original, but have the hands waving slightly, like the Ur animation on a much, much smaller scale.
But that might look crap, I don't know until I try it. But I'm stuck for what else to use, because half the stances I could think of would look crap with the issues above. :/

see the new sneak animation 2

http://s647.photobucket.com/albums/uu195/mark507_album/morrowind/animations/?action=view¤t=Movie_0012.flv

after seen this ,I think I prefer the first one below. because above looks his back are near 45 degree to water level. am I wrong? too low to me. but that's still much better than original game animation.

http://s647.photobucket.com/albums/uu195/mark507_album/morrowind/animations/?action=view¤t=Movie_0011.flv

about spinter cell animation video, see here. this is a sneak animation show in that game. maybe usefull to you.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/splintercell/video/2911292/tom-clancys-splinter-cell-movie-12

and when he is not moving , he is this justure. it's hard to find him if he is in a forest and tall grass around. that's called sneak. or crouch, you name it.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/splintercell/images/0/26/

here is a video show what he will look like when stop moving.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/splintercell/video/2911290/tom-clancys-splinter-cell-movie-10?tag=videos;title;19

good luck. Dirnae

Thanks for the links, I think I've got a good idea of what it looks like now. :foodndrink:

I'm going to do a few different sneak animations for different tastes, release the most popular with the animation pack and release the others seperately on the side.
I've got the first one if anyone prefers it, the low one for people who'd like a lower stance, I'm going to do a splinter cellish version next, and then I'm contemplating, if I have enough time, a lower one, that's kinda like a half-crawl.

@Saint_Jiub: I'll try making a one-handed spellcasting idle anyway, it might look good.

I still have to fix a wierd error in the sneak idle animation (weapon keeps twitching, might have to ask Axel or someone else about it), but yeah, as soon as that's fixed, I'll upload them.

I like that lowered sneak animation a lot, but I can't wait to see the Splinter Cell-ish one. Good thing you're doing here mate, making everyone happy. I know it's a lot of work, but much http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a16/Zero_Black_Lion/respekKnuckles.jpg

Dirnae, for the one handed spell animation, is it possible to convert oblivion animations to MW?

There is a finger snap spell casting animation that sounds sweet as honey. :D

Something like that would be amazing.

Maybe even making weird gestures with the hands, like forming symbols or something?

Thanks BlackLion! Yeah, it's quite a lot of work, but I enjoy it, so it's fine. :D I have solved the Sneak Idle animation problem, so I might be able to get the sneaking animations finished soon.

@Yombie: From an oblivion mod? If so, yeah, though I'd need permission.
I kinda know what you mean about the wierd hand gestures. If you know a video of something similar to what you want though, then post it up (or pm it to me). :)
