Some Pre-Order Bonus's...

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:42 pm

I'm going to echo the sentiment that pre-order bonuses are inherently anti-consumer. Locking away content, even if it is just a gun or piece of armor, and giving it only to player that pre-order from specific locations or in general is never in the consumer's best interest. It serves only the company in driving pre-orders. People who can't pre-order from one of those select stores or that are waiting to see if the game is actually any good or even works, are simply screwed out of content.

Pre-ordering in general is something people need to stop doing. I do not understand why people insist on spending money for games that are not even released yet, and know only what they have been shown by the company. Too many times people have been burned by pre-ordering hyped and pretty games, only to discover it's crap when they get it. At that point, guess what? The company already has your money. Some of this might change now that Steam is offering returns, but I still don't think it's a good idea to do it.

In game content for pre-orders are not the way to go (even if it is just cosmetic). Per-order bonuses should be things like:

1. Free old games: Give people Fallout 1-2 and/or tactics for preordering.

2. Discounts on future content: Digital coupon for 10-15% off one DLC related to game.

3. Unique "I Preordered FO4" title/badge on forums

The key is to give bonuses to people that preorder instead of punishing people who didn't.

I was surprised that there wasn't, even for those just getting the normal version but in a way its a good change...& heck that Pip boy is all I need for a bonus.

I think going with a free redeem code good for the older Fallout game of one's choice would work better for #1.

Nothing.

Preorder bonuses are a joke and merely used as a means to generate some quick cash flow as the various preorder "bonuses" go up for general purchase within a few months.

That having been said...I did enjoy New Vegas' preorder bonuses - specifically the Caravan Pack (Which remains the only one I run) - A Shotgun, Light Leather Armor, and a pair of Binoculars.

Hey, at least its not an Ubisoft or EA game. "Get exclusive content and missions for X Platform if you preorder!"

I want the complete game and not have to miss out on any unique items, skills, special quests, etc. just because I didn't get it from another vendor.

I would love a Good friend Tabitha skin for a companion. So instead of travelling around with Dogmeat I get to travel around with Good friend Tabith as she dives on enemies and rips out their jugular and keeps talking about the dum dums,

I'm going with the general consensus of none. The only pre-order bonus should be the Pipboy toy for people who spend extra money on the Pipboy edition. Everyone else should get the same content regardless of where you pre-order from. Things like that will make me wait for a price drop or the GOTY edition.

When I buy the GOTY or Ultimate version after I get a decent comp a few years in the future I'd prefer not being assaulted with messages when beginning the game like in New Vegas.

So none.

None. Bethesda has a bigh enough obsessive fanbase (like me) so I don't think they need to bait us into preordering (which I did anyway).

Lol, I would have preferred hearing Kelly from Mass Effect 2 informing me of new messages on my Pipboy instead of seeing them pop up on my screen as soon as I step outside for the first time.

Hah, that reminds me of starting Saint's Row 4 after buying the "game of the century" edition super-duper-cheap on a Steam Sale. Soooooooo many DLC notices. (Of course, those were all post-release DLCs, not pre-order bonuses, so it can be hard to escape in some games regardless.)

All items should be available to ALL PLATFORMS and ALL PURCHASERS. There are WAY too many "exclusive" content bull out there. We all pay the same, we should all get the same.

It's like if you go to the store and guy in front orders a steak and the seller gives him all the vegetables to go with it for free. Your turn comes and you ask for the same but the seller says "Sorry, you drive the wrong type of car... come back in a year and we will give you the vegetables then."

If that happened you would be spitting blood. Exclusives based on platform is JUST... PLAIN... WRONG...

Now if you get more items in a special or limited edition then that is a different matter... but limit them to six month exclusive AT THE MOST. CD Projekt Red have the right idea with what they have done with the Witcher 3 IMHO.
