Some quesions for owners.

I've heard there are more quests than in FO3 but are they as indepth or just short simple ones?

I know this game is new so this question will be pretty irrelevant but try to speculate on what you have experienced so far. Is the game going to have good replayability, not just in terms of how you approach missions but in terms of how enjoyable missions are and the game world in general?

How is the character customisation in this game? i.e. Is it the same as FO3 with Character Creation? Do you have to specialise or do you become god-like the later you go as in FO3?

Last but not least, are you enjoying it?

Many Thanks.

Fallout 3's quests were barely in-depth at all. New Vegas is a massive improvement.

Excellent replayability with many different outcomes to situations.

Specialization is enforced much more than it was in Fallout 3.

Last but not least, are you enjoying it?

Just as much as Fallout 1 and 2, and that's a huge and welcome surprise to me.

-The quests are IMO about the same as far as 'in depth' There are 163 quests in NV compared to 100 in FO3.

The game has great replayability...Because you have more options as far as what paths you want to chose...

The Character customization is better in NV. You get perks now ever other level instead of ever level...However, you still get still points ever levelup.

I am enoying this game very much, I already have 20 hours of playing time and I am just starting to get into the 'meat' of the game

Definitely, there will be factions that I deal with next time around that I was filling full of lead the first time around. Lots more quest options, though obviously the ones I did before may not be open to me anymore based upon my newfound evil/good/neutral stance.

'Fallout 3's quests were barely in-depth at all. New Vegas is a massive improvement.' I meant Oblivion/Morrowind quests as their side missions/guild missions were sometimes pretty in depth.

Yes I know alot of you will scoff because my first Fallout was FO3 as I follow Bethesda's RPGs. I wasn't impressed with the story and length of the main quest in FO3 so has that been improved?

Good to hear about specialisation being enforced. I didn't like being Jack of All trades even though of course it was up to me, just takes away from character experimentation.

The only reason I'd ever scoff at someone is for blatant disrespect of the history of the series. So don't worry about it. :P

At any rate, the main quest is much more competently written and more compelling than Fallout 3's, so no worries there.

I actually own the game, but I'm wondering: can one play up to level 30 without doing the main quest?

Usually on these sand-box type games, my first character always ignores the main quest but tries to reach max level and just does all the side quests.

If I play a second character that one will usually do the main quest.

I'm at level 22 and have only done 2 quests for the main quest line. So, yes, yes you can.

I didn't replay FO3 because it was so massive... I put a lot of hours into it, though. Only a couple key choices that I was really interested in (Megaton), and I just saved the game and played it both ways to see.

F:NV I anticipate definitely playing at least twice, because of the way factions work, I know that I'll want to align myself much differently the second time around because you really get cut off from faction quests.

I'm finding the missions very enjoyable so far and I'm very much enjoying the game world in general.

Definitely enjoying it - could not play a game of this size if I wasn't enjoying it.

Yah, I'm surprised that I like it just as much as 1 and 2 as well. I loved 3, but not because it was fallout. I loved 3 because I loved oblivion. This is truly the marriage of fallout and oblivion like 3 should have been.

OP,

I would say the game is far more replayable than 3 was because you have to make choices, that lock you out of content. You also can approach situations from many different angles (within dialog), which changes the outcome of the quest. Since you can't be a god like character, that means multiple play throughs just to see how quests you did get turn out.

I'm not going to add much to what others have said about the scope and replayability of the game. I loved FO3, but I think this outshines it in those areas.

I just wanted to add that I think hardcoe mode adds a whole new dimension to the game and I love it. I've always been a bit of a "pack-rat" in FO3 and in Oblivion and Morrowind, but this makes so many of the random loot you find actually useful. I've found myself really regretting having to choose about carrying that jar or turpentine (used to tan hides). The wider variety of weapons and the mods involved make for a lot more decisions about what to carry, all of which makes your character choices mean more. Finally, as much as I hate getting fewer perks compared to FO3, only getting them every other level makes the choice when you do get one that much more significant.

Better quest depth than FO3, but only a slight improvement.

This game is a 1-play wonder, that is, if you can tolerate the numerous bugs.

Character Customisation is the same as FO3 & if you want a good character you should specialise.

I am not enjoying it. I despise the game and all the bugs + glitches that it comes with. DO NOT BUY!!

Bull. There's a minimum of four separate paths you can take to the end that change the ending. So that'd make it a 4 play wonder at a bare minimum.

Character Customisation is the same as FO3 & if you want a good character you should specialise.

Also bull. Character customization is changed significantly from FO3, because in FO3 (esp with Broken Steel) you inevitably ended up with a jack of all trades. In New Vegas, getting a skill to 100 is hard and you'll end up with only a few skills at that level by the end.

I agree totally. I didn't rush it either - in fact after 18 hours I went back to scratch and started again just to be sure I hadn't "missed something".
I am a bit more "into it" this time through but it's still an effort and that, surely, isn't what a game should require of you...effort to engage?
Your comment on the Follower/Faction thing is also spot on. They did a good job there, but the overall "feel" of the game is empty. It lacks empathy or something. I just don't "care" as much as I did with FO3 and the Lone Wanderer.... God I miss him/her!!!
I'd love to have seen the FO3 world with the improvements we mentioned. I think Obsidian missed the boat with "the lore". They don't have the FO3 "feel" at all. I guess it's just a business to them.
They seem to have just co-opted a lot of "background" from FO3 and tried to force a fit..... and it didn't work. There's no relevance, say, in Pre-War Books without the Library/Scribes of FO3. Teddy Bears??? Toy Cars? Nuka-Cola? Just stuck in there for no purpose at all except to make it "look" like FO3
AND....what is with that ridiculously overbloated PipBoy menu, full of so much useless ammo info???? Just give me a shottie and a sniper rifle with
308's and let it rip! I don't have a head full of ammo info to fall back on and there's damn little in the way of explanation. I am so over that bloody menu!!!
Some-one...somewhere....please make Fallout 4!

This is the best game I have played since I played morrowind. I have 46 hours in right now.
NO major bugs, one (to me) minor glitch. ED-E has gone M.I.A.

This has been the only game in the past year or two that I have trouble putting down in years.
It plays like (or feels like) Fallout 1/2, looks good and its just head and shoulders over Fallout 3.

I think I will get this at christmas (in the hopes of patches!).

Annoying thing is that there will be a GOTY edition in which I'll have to buy because like FO3 it will be better value than buying the DLC. This DLC cash cow trend is really getting on my nerves.

Is there an abundance of new apparel or is it just a few things added to what was in FO3?

There's a wider range of apparel than FO3. There's pretty much every piece from that game and just as many new things. Not to mention faction apparel works as a disguise now. More variety by far.

Honestly if you're on the fence don't get it. Wait for the GOTY edition.

I'm a big Fallout Fan and I've been playing since the 90's when 1&2 came out. So I don't mind the bugs etc and paying for the DLC. Hell I have the collectors edition of both this and Fallout 3. I really love this series. But for someone that's not a die hard fan will probably be upset and feel jipped for paying for the DLC and the bugs that are in the game. Just wait for it. Get Fable 3 and Black Op's and play the hell out of them then come back to us. We'll always be here :)

1. Both. Some quests take 5 seconds to do and are pointless. Some are incredibly in depth and amazing.

2. One of the most replayable games I have played ever. Almost each longer quest (and the main story) have many many outcomes. So there are hundreds of outcome combinations you can make happen.

3. Same as Fo3. But you dont become NEARLY as godlike by lvl 30. (But your still rather powerful)

4. Yes. Bugs, issues, and incompletions aside its a very good game. I cannot wait to mod it. :D

It's like six, only I'm having it.

Return to Fallout: New Vegas
