Some questions that I'd like to ask

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 1:16 pm

What are the weapon and armor skills which Morrowind has really focused on? I know that there aren't any "ignored" weapon or armor types in the game and that every one is just a modification of the base types, but what I mean is which one has more types, artifacts and unique weapons/armor etc. Like, which one would give me more variety to wear, diversity in design and such. Also, are there any "big project" mods that you would recommend? Like the Morrowind Overhaul mod, LGNPC; just to name a few. I really like mods like these because they usually have more content to offer and the conent is always of good quality. If you could give me some answers or opinions to these following questions, then I'd be grateful.

This can easily be answered if you did a little research and looked at UESP wiki.

Oh, so you're going to completely ignore the rest of my questions just because of this one question? Also, I wanted answers AND opinions. You know opinions, right? Those things that you can only hear from other people only?

Maybe I don't have anything to say about the other part. Ever thought about that?

Asking for opinions is fine, but you were also asking for information that is openly available and easily accessed through a simple Google search. And, IMO, that is just pure laziness.

I'm not quite sure that I understand your question about which weapon and armor skills. Do you mean which type of weapon, for example, long swords, spears has the most variations in the game? Same thing for armor (light, medium, heavy)? If so, I don't remember seeing any statistics breaking that down.

When you start asking about that stuff in mods, I'd say you're going to find a lot more diversity. The pinned threads in the Mods forum might give you a basic idea, but my guess is that at some point you'll have to watch the various threads that pop up there. There seems to be a new thread every day or every other day about released (relz) mods or work in progress (WIP) mods dealing with how weapons, armor, towns, etc look or adding such things for specific classes.

Failing that, maybe a quick run through at Planet Elder Scrolls (there are two other sites that also get mentioned a lot in the Mods forum but don't remember their names at the moment) to find mods by category might give you some ideas as well.

And when you mention the Overhaul mod, be more specific in its name because there are at least three I'm aware of. One of them created a lot of bad feelings in the community. The other two which ARE well regarded are Morrowind Sound and Graphics Overhaul (MSGO) and IIRC Morrowind Game Experience Overhaul. Those two are compilations by Kingpix. The Game Experience mod is a work in progress.

My opion and advice is the overhaul from kingpix. Its the only mod I use and it fixes alot of stuff while making the game gorgous at the same time. Armor, ive noticed its pretty spread out between all four armor classes heavy medium light and cloth. Weapons im sorry I cant answer because I only use daggers and short swords so I dont really pay attention to the other weapons I come across. Sorry.

And also welcome if this is ur first time to morrowind, its a blast :)

As for the original question about weapons and armor, Long Blades seem to be slightly favored in many cases, with some of the most powerful weapon artifacts in the game, but some of the best enchantments are on Short Blades. There are a number of very good Blunt weapons and Axes, as well as a couple of decent Spears (which seem to get the least "love", but are absolutely devastating under the right circumstances).

Light and Heavy armor are both well represented in the basic game, with Medium Armor getting a few really nice initial sets, then getting shortchanged at the high end, but the expansions provide a couple of suitably powerful Medium sets to make up for it.

ANY of the weapon or armor classes can be viable, depending on your playing style and character design, although some combinations of character class and weapon or armor work better than others.

I would recommend having a look at the http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.Detail&id=6589 mod which provides a reasonable selection of some of the weapons that have been made for Morrowind , all weapon types are well represented so i suppose it boils down to what appeals to you specifically.

Other big mods i like are are the landmass and town expansion mods. Tamriel Rebuilt is the most epic mod , Wizards Islands and Deus ex Machina are 2 epic quest mods , Town expansions you could try are the Balmora expansion,Mournhold expanded to name but 2.Also have a look at the Victorian city of Jarvik mod which is a WIP but impressive nonetheless. There are video trailers for most of these if you click on the Morrowind Videos link in my signature and will find them in the adventure, landmass and town expansion sections.

Thanks to all of you for you're continuous participation and all of your positive attitudes towards answering the thread. Those are a lot of fairly great suggestions, but they'll take some time until I can install them all. So anyways, what I've currently got is the Morrowind Overhaul mod and the LGNPC mod. I just want to ask another two questions though; what's the differnece between the Morrowind Overhaul for sounds and graphics mod and the one for "experience"? Also, could anyone please suggesnt me another excellent dialogue mod like LGNPC? Again, thank you all for your great suggestions.

Or how about not giving a [censored], and optimize your ability to stream out information you're not interested in, instead of beeing counterproductive and bumping it instead.

I'm sorry guys if some of my posts are too hard to understand for anybody, but English isn't my mother tongue, although I really am trying to improve it! I read books and lots of other stuff and learn from them in order to improve my english. Currently I'm reading Dracula by Bram Stoker, if anyone likes reading, you could suggest me a book as well. Also, I'm incredibly sorry if I said anything bad to anyone, because for some reason this thread seems to keep getting negative attention. Please guys, blow off some steam somewhere else and not on my thread.

dude ur writings perfectly fine, its better than mine most of the time. I agree the atks need to be kept down, but theres always someone who has a bad day or whatnot. Dont wry, u have any more questions, the people on this forum are usually very knowledgeable and friendly. Dont let a few bad post stop ya :)

Like I stated im using only the morrowind overhaul by kingpix but I did find a very lore friendly armor mod. The morag tong mod, theres a few different ones but theres one that has the armor stats like the DB so its not godmode and u have to go up in rank to be able to purchase it. Looks pretty badass. I saw a nice raven armor from the witcher but it was basically a godmode type. Looks great but takes away the challenge.

what's the differnece between the Morrowind Overhaul for sounds and graphics mod and the one for "experience"?
Both are compilations put together by Kingpix. The MSGO is focused on graphics and sounds in the game. The experience overhaul is a work in progress at the moment. Kingpix started a separate thread for it in the Morrowind Mods forum, and it gives more details. A compilation is not a mod per se but a group of mods made by different modders and packaged as a set. Think of Kingpix as the one who did the basic work to choose which mods to include, get the permission of each mod's author(s) and set up the UI to install the mods.

Also, could anyone please suggesnt me another excellent dialogue mod like LGNPC? Again, thank you all for your great suggestions.
That's a good question. I've been happy for so long with the LGNPC mods that nothing really crosses my mind. On the other hand, you may want to keep in mind what are called 'companion' mods. They will have an NPC who joins you on a more or less permanent basis excluding death. I'm not sure I've got the name right, but Julan Ashlander is one. I'm sure some other people will give other suggestions

The LGNPC series seems to have replaced all of the earlier attempts. Quite simply, it's hard to beat, and nobody's trying, or else they're joining the team. There are, or were, several "local" dialog mods for specific towns, to fix dialog problems, or to expand greetings, but they've either been included in, or outdone by, LGNPC.

Tamriel Rebuilt seems to be heading in the same direction for landmass mods. It's huge, ambitious, very well done, and seems to have a fairly strong monopoly on the mainland since a number of earlier and mostly forgotten or discontinued efforts.

There are also several "extended quest" mods, which include additional dialog and sometimes additional landmasses (Lokken?), as well as several "companion" NPC mods with extensive dialog: Julan Ashlander being the most popular, with a second being a female Redguard fighter - I'm bad at remembering names - , and a possible third being Laura Craft. The Twin Lamps also have a couple of mods which include both quests and extensive dialog additions to the game.
