Some quick geck questions

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 1:38 pm

Im trying to modify the projectiles in fallout 3 to better match actual speeds, in addition to other things, and cannot find any information as to the scale or units used in the GECK for projectile velocity.

Also, the gravity settings, is it a 0 to 1 range, or greater than that? and if so, does 1 correspond to the full 9.8m/s2, or is it closer to some other value?

And, what are the units of measure for the range value? I am going to assume its compatible with the speed units (m and m/s, or ft and ft/s)

I am just finding it hard to get a somewhat accurate projectile given I have no clue as to the scale I am using. As NASA found out, using feet in place of meters usually causes problems. At least I am not going to crash a multibillion dollar piece of equipment into the surface of another planet if I screw up, but it would be nice to know.

In Fallout 3 or New Vegas ?
The weapons are not real world ones and the game is set in 2277. Think of the weapons and ammo 250 years ago. More recent, compare the .45 LC to the .454 casull. or the SW .460. It makes a great difference. In game we only have a generic .45 caliber. It is an arbitrary unrealistic ammunition. And what is the so common 10mm pistol exactly ? We don't have any clue about the specs of the ammo it uses, only the generic caliber.

I suppose the velocity is calculated in http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/Units /s, same for the range.
And for the gravity... it depends of the weight and type of the bullet but as the ammunitions are weightless in game it is difficult to say. It is probably arbitrary (i'll bet the reference unit is the 10mm) and the others are only relative to this one and not to something real.

This game is not a real life simulator, you'll have to do all the calculation yourself. If you can improve it i's good but refrain to create hundreds of different ammos like in real life. It is a game and in FONV there are already too much different insipid ammunitions. Who really cares to use .223 when the 5.56 is so common and cheap ?

I'm aware, but I'm using fook, which does. And I'm not looking to create many different ammos, just tweak what's already there.

Thanks for the info, however.

Sorry, forgot to answer your first question. Its fallout 3, but the geck is very similar, if not the same, from what I understand.

And as far as the ammos go, im simply modifying what exists, to better suit my tastes. The projectiles are far too slow, in my opinion, and I am trying to get closer to reality for those purposes.
