Some settlement questions

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2015 7:09 pm

Sup guys,

im into the settlement thing so i have some questions concerning them.

- i have about 6 water purifiers in sanctuary but whenever i go to my workshop it doesnt seem that my purified water is really increasing. Its at about 26 right now, i have all the purifiers hooked up to generator so they are working.

- Is Jet really worth the fertilizer? I saw a post where someone explained that making Jet is a good way of earning caps. Now Jet sells at 25 right? But a shipment of fertilizer at abernathy farm costs about 400. Lets say i buy 2 shipments = 800 caps. For this 50 fertilizer i can make 25 Jet. 25 x 25 = 625, so where is the profit?

- does anybody know where to get cheap fertilizer? I know you can put a Brahmin feed trough in your settlement but this does not produce a lot of fertilizer.

- IMPORTANT! I want to know why i cant send more settlers to sanctuary hills? I have 16 settlers there, more then enough food/water/defence and the bar which shows the size of the settlement is about 75% full. WHen i go to another settlement i cant send any of my settlers to sanctuary hills, why? Sanctuary is not full. I saw the glitch where you can re-store weapons in your workshop to lower the settlement size bar, should i do this? Im just wondering because the bar is not full yet but i cant send any settlers there.

Thanks for the help guys and galls, because these thigns are really bugging me

Is your charisma 6? You can have 10 + Charisma settlers in each settlement.

You can have a max population of 10 settlers...

+ 1 more settler per charisma...

8 charisma = + 8 settlers...

which = 18 settlers...

You can use drugs, alcohol and charisma clothing to stack charisma to increase the number of max settlers...

Then move settlers from other settlements to wherever you want to add more settlers...

Settlement size is capped and 10+player charisma. If your want bigger settlements, raise your charisma.

I've yet to see anything in the game that allows the player to buy an item, modify it and sell it for a profit. MKy guess is that whomever suggested making jet to sell was referring to whatever fertilizer your found for free as fertilizer sells for less than Jet. But I could be wrong about that.

As for your purified water, I don't know, but maybe your purifiers don't scale when it comes to additional water to sell. I haven't ever built more than one purifier in any settlement myself.

If you build a Brahmin Trough (under Misc Resources) to your settlement to attract a Brahmin, you'll start seeing fertilizer automatically show up in your workbench. It's only a few units per Brahim per day, but if you link all of your settlements and attract a Brahmin to each, you could easily end up with dozens of units of the stuff per day. Mix it at a Chemistry station with Plastic. One of each and boom, Jet.

I'd highly advise that you acquire a set of clothing which boosts Charisma just to have on hand for buying and selling mass quantities of things. With a 10 in Charisma (if you're at 6, find the bobblehead, wear a tuxedo, and wear black rimmed glasses, it'll take you to 10) you can sell the Jet for about 40 caps a pop.

Also, you can sell it to Bobby De Luca in Vault 81 for 75 caps a pop regardless of Charisma, but it's time consuming because you can only sell one at a time. (You'll also piss off his sister who gives a minor quest.)

As for your water situation, there could be a couple of things at play here:

- If you have connected settlements who don't have enough water, they'll cut into your surplus. Make sure that isn't the case.

- There is a stacking bug/limitation within the game. If you look in your workshop at your stored purified water, but don't remove it, no more will be added because it doesn't stack properly. It's a good practice to take out any water that is in there every time you enter your workshop storage for any reason. Even if you don't intend to go and sell it right that second, still get it out so more will appear. (If you leave for a few days and don't look, it'll all stack appropriately.) If you don't want to carry it, just build a container of some kind next to your workbench and put the water there.

Doing both the Jet and Purified Water selling will net you a few thousand caps a day as long as you don't mind lugging it around to sell. I'd recommend (if you don't already have it) getting the second level leader perk which allows you to build shops. Build a tier 3 "emporium" of each type of shop in your settlement. (Building more than one of the same won't work, as they will share inventory and cap supply.) That'll give you 6 shops to sell to without even having to leave your settlement. Also remember Connie Abernathy and the Drumlin Diner as other nearby places to sell.
