Some sort of Error

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 3:12 am

Not sure whats causing it. It happens when I try to play HoD (heart of the dead) right in the first cave after you figure out the riddle to get through the door. Now its doing it while I am re-playing the Dremora Companion Quest in the deadlands. I run a decent sized list of about 105 mods. Less because most of the mods have multiple esp's and a .esm or six. I'll post the entire list if this isn't a problem that usually pops up (like I suspect/hope it is).

Basically my entire screen goes black arbitrarily and without any obvious trigger at all kinds of different places in the world. Has happened in mod and vanilla areas. The only things that continue to show is my menu like hp-magicka-fatigue and all the extras like the minimap and radar and my ngcd progress bar. Nothing seems to fix it ( fast travel, just walking around some more, spells/teleports or even reloads.) But if I get off the game entirely and then try to load an earlier save its gone. But then it usually comes back unless I go back like 5-6 saves. At which point it seems to still come back, from my recent experience. But if I just reload a save while the screen is black, it stays black no matter what.

Is this some kind of glitch due to my OBSE plugins and perhaps an update I missed somewhere? If my mod list and OBSE plugin list is required, I'll post them up as well.

Do you have an nVidia video card? This sounds like the nVidia black screen bug to me.

You can fix it in Wrye Bash.

I do, I do. Booting it up now to see if I can see the option.

Hmmm, I see a Nvidia Fog Fix and its already checked in my Bash Patch. Is that what your talking about? If not, I don't see it right away. I'll keep looking.

Aside from the the fog bug, it can also sometimes happen with certain shaders or even certain meshes/textures when HDR is on. Usually you know this is going on if the screen goes black reliably when looking towards a certain area. Try switching to Bloom lighting to see if the issue goes away. You can turn HDR back on once you're done with that location, or just avoid that location/uninstall that mod.

I'll try that and then be right back to relay the results. Gonna cross my fingers.

Edit: Seems to work. Passed the spot I was getting the error at and played for some time more. Two of my errors are now dealt with. Thanks for all the help guys!
