Somehow the enemy scale got broken beyong belive

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 6:50 am

So i got to level 19, and i went inside the cave to fight some bandits and my god... the enemy scale got broken, i play on adept difficulty because, if something is harder than this i might as well just give up.

Inside the cave there was a eletricity mage, the kind that deals 1/3 of your HP away with a single spell ( don't you just love how enemies spells scale but not ours?) But that was just the icing, as i went depper inside i found a bandit pundlerer, ONE shot from her arrow means instant death! i'm not kidding, and i was wearing full steel plate, except for the armor wich was orc and reforced, still 1 shot from her arrow killed me with full HP. I got close to her thinking that i could win by getting close, she pulled her knife and each hit from a iron knie deal 1/5 of my health...

I might as well go naked inside that cave, since armor dosn't semm to make a difference for overpowered NPSs ._.

What was the name of the cave? Some areas are always ridiculously difficult until you are very high level.

Indeed. Some places are only meant to be tackled at higher levels.

The cave that you go inside for the quest "in my moment of need" in wich you either:

Spoiler
Trade sidia for the redguard mercenaries, or you kill then.

Surely this cave was not supposed to be this hard since it's from the quest at the first freaking city.

Actually the previous game had level scaling and it was the most infamous feature. It makes more sense IMO that there should be enemies you cannot tackle early on. Also for some reason arrows and lightning spells always feel more powerful to me too.

The game really relies on you improving the armors yourself (otherwise they're very weak) and taking armor +X% perks, and adding health to yourself when you level. Hope that'll help you out.

But i had good armor ._. i played a mage before wearing nothing but that mage's clothing wich dosn't even add to your armor, and it semmed like their physical damage was the same as it was on my warrior... is the base armor points working correctly? Because it dosn't look like it.

I might add, i played on my mage up to lvl 39, and i never found such broken enemy scaling... the game might have tought i was way stronger than that i guess.

Deflect arrows, elemental shield, game, set, match.

I gotta say, I am just I love with how much utility the blocking perks give you.
I've always had a thing for shield warriors but so many games just don't do it right; I love the fact that your shield in Skyrim is just as much weapon as it is armor.

OMG that place was easy as all get out. I am glad things are this way for the fact I hated Oblivion so much. The level scaling for OB was complete nonsense along with the respawn times. Everything was the same and in the same place. Along with he copy and paste dungeons. IMO so much of that game was in a linear sense it almost made me sick. Skyrim to me gives a more Morrowind feel. I never know what I am walking into and if I might live. That is the fun in the game, never knowing what is going to happen. I guess some people can't handle this and so the companies level scale and dumb it down for them.

I had something similar happen for the quest to join the Imperials, which I did at about level 8. The bandits totally owned me and my spells and weapons dealt them almost no damage. I've just ignored it for now. Going to go back some time later and see whether it's any easier. Otherwise I guess I have to switch to easy...

I like it too, it gets dull when there's no challenge, but to 1 shot me without ANY kind of effort, for me it's not fun ._.

I've found that there are certain encounters that are just ridiculously difficult if you don't have the right skill set to handle it. But get the right perks and it's cake.
It's not always about your level or the scaling but rather just your play style versus that particular enemy; and yeah, sometime you need to level up a bit and/or get the right perks. Other times getting just the right piece of gear can solve all your problems.

i personally love the fact that some places are non-leveled. i just wish that there was some more non-leveled loot around. I went into one tomb. was given a quest to stop a lich by a ghost. and the place was about 15 levels above my own. but using a bow and terrain i cleared it getting the last needed item in a mad rush. Just to get creamed by the lich. so i waited till i got stronger and then creamed the lich. I love that kind of play. Now i am level 32 and things are getting too easy. and i am looking forward to a mod that give legendary scaled monsters to hunt after you get that high. something like MMM that kicks in after you get so high in level. While still leaving some easy prey to let you know you are up leveled.

The different between unimproved armor and improved armor (a whole set) could be a difference of hundreds of points. You can raise your early smithing skills easily by just casually improve every set of armor you upgrade (like going from leather to steel to glass, etc). Even if you don't feel like spending your time on training smithing skill you could come across/buy smithing-enhancing potions from vendors that normally carry potions and that'll help with smithing.

I'm guessing 100 armor rating might as well be 0 to the game; I do not know. Also it would make sense magic would be powerful cause I think magic bypass armor. I dunno about arrows.

But I agree, 1 shot is ridiculous. You might have just gotten critical'ed.

Edit: if you want to train your smithing skill you could craft a lot of iron daggers to use up all those useless iron you come across. Also improving them after you've crafted them is more economical (use less material). The game doesn't care what you craft/improve, it's all the same level of improvement to your smith skill.
