Someone explain the Hoon Ding

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:19 am

Yes. I saw MK give a list of the most uber guys in TES. The Hoon Ding was at the top.

What is it? I've hardly heard of it. I guess it's Akaviri, or from Redguard, but I never played through it ... I only read the interesting parts with Mr Vile and his dawg.

Could someone begin the enlightening process here?

Yokudan spirit of 'perseverance over infidels'. The HoonDing has historically materialized whenever the Redguards need to 'make way' for their people. In Tamrielic history this has only happened three times-twice in the first era during the Ra Gada invasion, once during the Tiber War. In this last incarnation, the HoonDing was said to have been either a sword or a crown, or both. -Varieties of Faith in the Empire

the HoonDing is a fusion of Crown and Sword (physically or metaphysically), two individuals united as one in order to defend the superiority of the Ra Gada against the weaker races. The most famous example of the HoonDing is Cyrus from Redguard, who became Hoonding with the soul sword of A'tor and drove Richton out of Stros M'kai, as well as weakened the empire's grip in Hammerfell. There are of course other instances where this has occurred, though we know considerably less about them (enter Mr.Sload's wonderful stories).

I'll leave the E word to others, though the similarities are obvious.

Oh yeah, in that list you mentioned, Talos was at the top, though the Hoon Ding was very close.

That's my nitpick of the day. Good day, ladies and gentlemen.

It's a two-in-one Enantiomorph, you have both the Hoon and the Ding. The HoonDing is the God of Make Way, the force that, in their hour of need, leads the Redguards and destroys their enemies. A leader and a destroyer, all rolled-in-one, which incarnates in the homme providentiel du jour. The HoonDing has two missions, to rally the Ra'Gada behind him and to annihilate any resistance. Many people have been touched by the HoonDing throughout the ages. Frandar Hunding (name isn't innocent) was the one who led them to Hammerfell. Cyrus was the one who forced the Empire to renegociate. You think Cyrus could have killed a Dragon if it weren't for being the hero?

I had a thread entitled "The Hoon and the Ding" but it has apparently been pruned, so no link for you.

And here I thought Cyrus killed the dragon because it was poorly written into the story.

I mean, the bosses in that game were crap compared to the dungeons to get to them. Two goblins gave more trouble than the dragon and N'Gasta.

The Hoon Ding isn't a massive swirling orgy of death, like the Bosmeris' animal ritual, but a collosus of a hero? Even CHIMesque?

Is that why Vivec was enjoyed fighting with Cyrus so much?

So HoonDing is Rebel and King?
I just assumed that Cyrus went all Che Guevara and got himself incarnated.

Cyrus is a shallow version of John Matrix from Commando. I think you're reading into him a bit too much.

Tell me about it. Sometimes I wonder if he enjoys saying something bizarre and watching us argue endlessly over it.

I'd say there's more to Cyrus than being a simple thief, though.

Eh, I was moreso quoting the Swordmeeting. But of course, I don't feel that that "thief" bit should be miscounted. Also, don't forget: Vivec AND Cyrus both murdered their sister's husbands, too, in mythic-related events (I think?). The whole HoonDing-is-a-one-sided-Enantiomorph makes a good deal of sense to me right now at least, so that could be part of it; Vehk-and-Vehk personifies that as well.

I HATE the fact I don't have access to some of these games, such as Redguard. It somewhat leaves me out of the loop on some info and I hate spoiling the games for myself sometimes.

It's the Yokudans who did the reading, not me. Maybe they're a bunch of post-apocalyptic crazies, but their interpretation will be interesting regardless. So I want to know.

So does the enantiomorphic aspect of Hoon Ding something have anything to do with either Aka, or Lorkhan or Sithis?

Since it has to do with Enantiomorphs in general since it IS an enantiomorph (at least how I'm understanding it), then yes, in the Aka/Lorkhan sense, but only BECAUSE it's an Enantiomorph.

...get it?
