Something needs to be done about this disarm shout

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 3:17 am

It's all fun and games until someone (me) looses a daedric sword and instead of fighting, you're scurrying around looking on the ground for this thing. Really ruins the fun.

A two minute modding job, yes, I know. And it's going to be the first thing I mod when the CK comes out. I'll give these draugr death lords etc. unrelenting force or something a little more innocuous to replace it. I'm all about equality (i.e. NPCs having the same abilities that I do), but when you start losing weapons, it's gone too far. When you spend half the fight looking for your weapons because they're spamming you with this shout, it's gone too far.

Why am I putting this in the mods section? Just in case one of the kind, brilliant souls who can mod without the CK has some spare time and can make this mod before the editor comes out. Otherwise like I said I'll just do it myself, but without any hair (from pulling it out) as I try to get past this fight.

Speaking of which...back to the fight. If my sword is gone for good so help me God....

EDIT: oh yeah, when you pick up your weapon but it's no longer in your favorites and you have to hotbar it again and assign a key to it---all of this requiring you to have to pause the action over and over again---it's gone too far.

Yep this is a bit annoying at time lost my nice enchanted bow this way and never found it again. Dont mind the disarming so much but i could not see the bow after that it was gone maby a mod that pops up a little arrow simillar to what they use
to point to quest npcs would be a good idea

Yeah the real problem here is the collisions, the weapons sink through the mesh of the surface which makes it sometimes impossible to find back.

Oh, and always carry a spare weapon. ;)

All we need is http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14316 for Skyrim.

A mod that unequips your weapon instead of making you drop it would work, but then again that would make it less effective when the player uses the shout on an NPC but would help with the problem of losing the weapon

i dont think it is THAT bad. honestly, me only problem with disarming shout is when items sink into the floor and disappear. besides that i really like disarming shout. it adds a frantic element to combat when your weapon flies outta your hands.

We need an opposing shout that does a Luke Skywalker and calls our weapon back to us, you will be back to hacking Wampas I mean Draugr down in no time.

In all seriousness though it wouldn't be so bad if the weapon didn't fly half way cross the room then proceed to get knocked about a bit more by any other shouts. In my mind I would rather the shout be replaced with a fancy (Star Wars again) Darth Vader force pull Han Solo pistol pinching trickery. The Draugr yell's bloody murder, poof your weapon flies toward him and be proceeds to paste seven bells out of you with your own sword. You switch to a sidearm, defeat the blighter and take your cherished property from his cold dead hands.

I hate the disarm shout, only lately it does not seem to have as much effect on me. I have not dropped a sword in the last few fights this shout was used on me. Maybe there is a level where it does not work on the PC.

Level difference, maybe? Scourge's Unrelenting Force does not throw me around, but Deathlord's does. Maybe there is a similar mechanic for Disarm?

Anyway, if the collision detection on Bethesda's games wasn't so ... it would be a nice feature. As it is, lots of reloading is required :swear:

I normally carry an extra weapon so the disarm shout doesn't force me to run around desperately searching for my lost weapon, but I have had to reload 2 saves because I spent 5 minutes looking for the lost weapon and couldn't find it. That is really annoying. Now I just sheathe my weapon or run away and hide behind something whenever I see them wind up for the shouting animation. I'm not sure if sheathing the weapon actually helps against the disarm shout, but I haven't lost a weapon yet while doing it.

Even better when it blasts right through the scenery, into oblivion... (Pun intended.) Lost to the greyness of the non-existent world, or shot into unreachable locations, still visible, but not selectable to pick-up.

Good times...

Be a mage...

lol, JK... I would never damn anyone to that spamming-level of awkwardness.

Yep, I finally got one of those transparent glowy Bows, and a Deathlord blew it out of my hands and through the dungeon wall and it was lost forever.

That's actually a pretty neat idea. Change the shout so it disarms the weapon, and adds it to the shouter's inventory. It'd retain the effectiveness of the shout (you or the enemy still get disarmed), and prevent the weapon from falling through the floor.

Do either of you have the Tower of Strength perk under heavy armor by chance? I've noticed on my battlemage that he was much less affected by various kinds of enemy shouts when he picked up that perk. Perhaps the chance to disarm or to be blown back by an Unrelenting Force are related to stagger chances. The latter being tied into it would seem somewhat obvious at least.

made a conjuration mod that added more bound weapon spells to make them a more viable combat choice ( i like using the mace's/warhammer's perks), but also, everytime a draugr uses disarm on me it breaks my spells but i just reconjure them and keep fighting.

also don't wards block shouts?

You could just reequip it that instant with a hotkey, I don't see the shout useful one bit in that case.

we need a "detect weapons" spell... and more intuitive favorites... and a massive cooldown for NPC disarm shouts. rotted vocal chords would probably give out after 1 or 2 shouts.

first i idea could be a spell instead of a shout, feel it might be easier. As for the second idea, it would be hilarious if player and draugr shouted at the same time and just swapped weapons. or with that, make TES style bombs that are activated when placed anywhere(including an inventory a la fallout3/NV) so when a draugr uses disarm and gets the bomb it assplodes.

The real problem is that the cooldown period for Draugr is very short. Maybe these ancient nords could shout much better even than a modern day Dragonborn. My last fight with a Draugr Overlord using the disarm shout was comical... I hit him a couple of times, parry, get shouted, run around the room with the Draugr in tow, retrieve the weapon and start again!

At least the player actually has the brains to pick up their weapon. I cannot count how many times I've had to reload and redo a dungeon cause Lydia dropped her Ebony Greatsword of Awesomeness that i made her and forgot she has to actually be armed to be of use...

Maybe a mod that makes disarm put the weapon in your inventory, with a 5 second cooldown to equip to simulate that you have to search for it, before you can equip?

My proposed solution: when the shout disarms you, have have a quest added to your "Misc" category titled "Recover your weapon" with a quest marker pointing the way.

My level 40 warrior has pretty much stopped being affected by shouts too and she wears light armor. So I doubt that is the cause.

Doesn't help if your weapon falls through the terrain.

the exact reason i had to drop XSO; constant reloading due to death or something silly. XSO didn't handle reloading very well for me for some reason.
