Something Old, Something New. Borrowed. Blue?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2009 5:13 am

A quick trip to the forums has just turned into me reading the entire of these two threads over the last hour. It started out as curiosity, but ended up being such a heart-warming read - first for the original idea, and then to see everyone put in so much effort and teamwork to make it happen.

Wishing you guys the very best of luck in getting it finished. :tops:

@the rest
Redoing the windows I came across something.. It's one of those "beautiful from afar, far from beautiful" kinda things. It looks ok from a distance, but pretty crap up close because you see the outside structure through the glass..
Something else, the LOD cuts out when I'm only about 500 meter away from it, and the building disappears.
For reference, if I'm standing next to the ruined church, the building is not visible. When it ought to be visible all the way from Jury street Metro...
Still working on the navmesh...

It almost sound like there is no LOD.
It's just doing the automatic switch to LOD after you get to far away.

EDIT:
What Miaximus said :embarrass:
Another thing could be that the objects the building is made of doesn't have _far.nifs

Sorry, I've been gone awhile, what do you mean when you say "you see the outside structure through the glass.."
Wouldn't that be a good thing? Or am I just having a brain fart, and missing something :P

Best of luck to you guys on this :goodjob:

:slap:
anyone else wanna have a go?

@Yevic
in http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/4903/chrysler.png you can see where the problem starts. The masonry is completely visible where there shouldn't be any..
Putting glass in those frames makes 'em shiney, but it doesn't really look right..

I'll assume youre using the Vault glass pane?
If so you'll have to edit the mesh in nifscope, it's been awhile.
*thinks*
Right click the plane and look for something about shaders?
Sorry, it's been awhile since I edited with nifscope.

Now that I think about it, the texture is transparent. -_-
Perhaps you could make a new texture?

This mod has piqued my interest. What is it about and do you need any professional texturing help, or voice acting?

Morning Andy.

Which mesh are you using for the glass? I`ll sort you out a texture that looks like a window with high gloss but isnt transparent. Edit the nif and send it to you.

That way you dont have to do any more GECK work on them.

Or, you could delete the NiAlphaProperty block from the NiTriStrips block in Nifskope, that`ll remove the transparency. If the texture is ok on the glass, that might be all you need do.

You got the LOD textures I sent you in the right place then?

The source folder was automatically generated for me, to this path: c:\ Program files\Bethesda softworks\source.

Hiya Arklite,

Well, there`s a girl in the US, that loves her BF very much. Her BF loves Fallout very much. So she wants to propose to him. And she wants to do it through a Fallout mod. And were about 90% complete.

Thanks for offering, but we`re all set for textures and voices right now because were almost done. But if something comes up, we`ll be sure to let you know.

*Best Ty Pennington impression* Deadline in 5 DAYS people!

Well, almost finished my part. However, I'm having a slight issue. The quest doesn't appear in the player's list of active quests. Any idea why?

And why do we have a deadline again?

How is it started? With the first Setstage the quest should be in the list.

Btw. I need my lines to record and make the LIP files.

Are the scripts/quest "stuff" appearing?
I've only ever really played around with quests, does it have a priority like dialouge?

Ah [censored]. The game crashes every time he engages in conversation with me. I've made hundreds of topics and AI packages like this, and this has never happened before. Any ideas?

Also, what deadline do you speak of, and when is this deadline?

And once again we have proven the fact that all available effort for any given project is inverse proportional to the amount of time at hand.
QED, if it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would get done.
:D

@Attentater
who's he? Kaiser?

@Skykappa
I'll have my end uploaded by tonight. I went ahead and tested as much as I could just to shorten the list of things for you to check when you merge these:

The location marker for the building is right smack in the middle of the building. So, once the building is found and can be fast traveled to, upon arrival at the building the character is stuck in the middle of the building and can't get out. This was very weird.

Any NPCs caught behind the toilet curtains when I breach the main hall get stuck there... Maybe adjusting the entrance a little?
Shotgun traps are triggered by the NPCs rushing out the door (which is kinda funny watching them get blown away...)

navmesh:
Still a lot of warnings, but I think that there are less now  dunno really.. What I do know is that they pose no problem for the stability of the game in any way. I even went down to Evergreen mills (the neighbors), shot the place up, released their pet (I was running MMM so the 'pet' was a little larger than I remembered) and then had everone chase me back to the building and around it numerous times. I didn't see any visible confused behavior from the NPCs.. they all seemed to know exactly what to do and how dead they wanted me :P

There is no navmesh on any of the catwalks or roofs of the building. Two reasons (one and a half really):
1. It creates a safe haven to escape to when being pursued outside since no one follows you up the stairs (but they will shoot at you if you're visible) and from the roofs you have excellent fields of vision :gun:
2. Kinda 1a because it relates to the above. When being overwhelmed inside by the slavers, escaping through a door out onto the rooftops provides again a breather since no one follows through the doors outside.

And blasting through those slavers isn't the easiest thing in this game. Shooting up Evergreen Mills is a milkrun compared to this!!
I think this qualifies as: "insane difficulty" status
But then I kinda knew that when I built all those crossfire zones with opposing rooms and open fields of fire with the stairways and balconies that need to be negotiated :hubbahubba:
I guess I kind of modeled my personal worse case scenario for having to breach a building

One weak spot: I would add a few guards to the top floor at the cage with (sawed off) shotguns or something similarly short ranged because you can go up the side of the building via the catwalks and enter the building practically next to the cage.. A few with 12 gauges should temper any rash ideas about taking shortcuts in life :D
Other than that, with the interlocking fields of fire everywhere it's pretty much a complete deathtrap.
:P

Hi All.

Wierd day today, I was made redundant a few weeks ago. Today, I was headhunted for a Job at the otherside of the UK. The pay is far more than I was on before. But, we`re faced with a decision, abandon mine, and my Girl`s friends and family, to pursue my career across the country, or stay here and hope something comes up locally? I have to make the decision by tomorrow!... Now thats a deadline! lol.

@ Attentater5, Have you posted on the GECK help section? I wish I could help, but I know next to nothing about dialogue, hence needing your help. You probably have, but I`ll ask, have you checked all the scripting for conditions ect? Also can you send the script for Kaiser to Sesom as soon as you are able. Thanks for all your work, we`d be stuck without your help.

@ Andy, Thanks for the concise bug report buddy and thanks for all the testing. I`ll sort it all out.

I`ll take out a few Slavers, or mabye, so that they are not all there at once firing, I`ll script a few to spawn when you hit certain markers. I`ll certainly script a few to spawn near the cage if you use the exterior shortcut up to the top as you suggested.

No problem with the navmesh error then, if its not causing any problems, dont worry about it. If Puffy disables the mod out after its done its job, then it`ll have no lasting effects. We can swallow our Modder`s pride on this one.

If I get time and it doesn`t cause more errors, I`ll navmesh the Exterior walkways. Just because, they would have lookouts of some kind I think. Also I`m gonna hang a few cages from the exterior too and try to connect the look of it with the environment and circumstance more. Although the building looks fantastic, it looks a little out of place because there`s no `Mese-en-Scene`. Mabye a camp out front of the building.

I made a few new LOD meshes for the building too, the Pyramid at the top didnt appear in my LOD, so I sorted that. Did you sort out your LOD issues?

Take care all

i have seen a few people ask about this mod to be released or played by others... if you guys would be okay with that, do you think that would be a good idea? (once it's been *used*, of course) I think it would be fine with me. Personally, I would love for everyone to see what you all have done. It's an amazing feat and I am sure that people would love to try it out. :)

secondly, you guys are using so many crazy terms LOL. all of your mod-vocab is is insane, but i am so happy that you are all able to relate problems and solutions to each other. it's fun to read, even though it is only mere ear-candy to me.

the deadline of comic con is best-case situation. if that's too difficult, i don't want to pull a "Kaiser" and ask for such lol. a friend of mine said that she keeps seeing comic con on tv, G4? and i saw G4 at comic con last year. she said "wouldn't that be neat if they had your "thing" on there?" so i said "omg I would love the guys to have their work shown off! lol" so i am thinking of emailing them if this can happen, and giving them all your names and the project, etc...just to tell them all what you've done! I swear...your congregation of amazingness here, is news-worthy. I want the world to know that some people will do amazing things for others just to help out.

what do you think about that? should i tell them? well, I know I will tell them regardless LOL. but, in case for comic con... (i am going to wait for now. i will get things ready but i don't want any pressure on you guys and if it happens later, then it was meant to. its a dream-come-true, just the fact this this was even possible, and the fact that you guys are creating it all professionally is a....dream dictionary come true.

one itsy-bitsy favor... :) can it not be so hard to get to caged puppy? lol. i dont want it to be too simple but if i figure out how and where he will play it, i dont want him under pressure/getting his ass kicked and never making it to the end LOL.

i love you guys. :) thank you so much. and please let me know what you think about having it for comic con. i can't ask anything of you, honestly.

-- and Skykappa, i am very excited for your offer, even though its a tough decision. one way that you can look at it is this : if you make more money, you can travel more on your time off to visit family and then you can still be happy/still see them. :) dorky POV, but.. oh well lol. : D

-----------------------------

did i tell you guys that we had our 2 yr anniversary? it was the 14th, i don't remember, i've had a headache for a few days and right now lol. anyways, here is a pic of the ammo box and the burned chryser photo !! ;) he said "whats the chrysler building?" and i said "that! is foreshadowing..." LOL! so he is curious. i cannot wait until we are done and all the pieces fit together, for him. he liked the ammo box and wants more bottle caps haha. i really like the fallout water ;)

When is this comic convention?

sesom, I'll have the lines to you by tonight. As for the mod, I swear it's cursed. I'm getting to the point where I'm saving after every tiny action. Current crash count: 11 in GECK, 5 in game. My cousin is coming over tonight, but I'll rush and try to get it finished by tomorrow afternoon.

Damn deadline! :flamethrower:

EDIT: Damn, Skykappa, that svcks :( I wish you the best, mate. What do you do for a living?

@Attentater5
I was Design/Technical Engineer for a company called Deluce lighting on 16k per annum + Bonus in Doncaster where I grew up. The company that wants me to work for them is called Thorlux lighting at 20k per annum + bonus in Redditch.
I decided last night not to move. Even though I live in Doncaster (horrible place, look it up, very bad reputation, AIDS capital of England! Its true! Not me though, honest!) We love our friends and family too much to not be near them, and its too big of a decision to make so quickly. I have some things in the pipeline locally, but I get the feeling that I`m always going to think `What if?` though.
Oh well. `Ces`t la vie`
The San Diago Comic-con is July 22-26th. So we made the deadline a day or so before.
Good Luck wih the problems, If the deadline cant be met, the Mod can still do its job. So dont worry too much.

@ Falcon8204
Do you still have the nice little model for that US Water Can you made? I`ll put a reproduction of that gift set Puffy just posted an image of. Probably on Kaiser`s desk where he`ll not miss it, then the present will be nicely tied in with the mod. And we can make use of the nice model you kindly made then.

@ Puffy.
I`ve only been asked once. But sure, we can release the Mod on The FO3Nexus if you like. But its up to really. If you want, when its done it`s job, we can post it so the interested people can have a play through.
Dont worry, we`ll make sure its not too difficult to complete. My test character is just tougher than Andy`s lol.
The present box looks great! You put in far more effort into your relationship than I`ve ever seen from any girl, including my own! lol.
He`s really a lucky guy, so I`m really glad to be helping you however I can. I`m sure others feel the same.

Thanks

Maybe Skykapp is tougher than I thought.. Making a statement like that, on an open forum like this.. He best hope his GF doesn't lurk around here :ninja:

i cannot believe that you are adding more to this! lol. it's already beyond-belief! :D wowowow.

one piece of randomness...i haven't worn a dress since prom, 7 years ago. i'm not skinny, but i am working hard at it, i am down 80 lbs so far in the last year. (( get it, "through thick and thin"...? haha. he was with me before i lost any weight and he is helping me keep losing. )) annnnd my mom bought me a dress tonight! *gasp* i feel ridiculous but it will be my own little reward. i was thinking of wearing it when i propose to him. LOL BUT THE DRESS IS BRIGHT YELLOW. i liked a green one, set it down, a woman picked it up and my mom and i stalked her for a while to see if she would put it back down, but she bought it. Grrrr. -_- anyways.. :) my mom said "call it an engagement present". so i am a little scared that i will be wearing a dress, not my usual jeans. (which is funny, dress in the mod, dress on the bod?) bf got me a gym pass, so i have been excited and taking lots of classes. maybe someday i won't be scared to wear my dress lol. :P http://i32.tinypic.com/10cuid5.jpg .. get it? "puffy?" lol :-P

It's an interesting pattern. Makes me think of a bed of potpourri that someone spilled yellow paint on to. The... neckline is sure to grab his attention. At least, that was the first thing I noticed. :P

I have bad news. The problem is not resolved, and due to my entire extended family staying at my place it is not likely to be fixed by tomorrow, either. I'm so sorry, and I wish that I had gotten into it in earnest much sooner than I have.

I'll probably end up just redoing the whole quest, but I won't be able to do much work on it tomorrow. Damn relatives!

Well, in the limited time I had today on my computer-with-GECK, I managed to redo most of the work. However, I'm getting yet another frustrating issue - namely, that the GECk crashes whenever I add a GREETING topic. I'll try patching the GECK tomorrow, to see if that helps.
