Something regarding the demo character

Post » Sat Jun 11, 2011 6:38 am

So when they show the interface, the demo character has 999 health and 500 magic. When he gets hit by the giant, a chunk of his health is drained, same with battling the dragon.

Does this mean that it would be possible to die in one hit by Giants and Dragons? Considering those hits must have done at least 200 damage to take such big chunks of health away.

They are giants and dragons. Giants aren't things you'd want to provoke on a whim and I'm pretty sure dragons don't show up for a little while anyway.

my thoughts exactly, but i think maybe the player has higher standard health (ae 999 isnt too high of health)

or maby they where all sckripted for the demo.

HELLO? level scaling. Or hopefully, they do tremendous damage and messing with one early on will spell your doom.

I'm thinking it's because the game isn't, y'know, finished. I'm guessing it'll be different later.

Hope so. I said in another thread, where I got ripped apart for apparently wanting no challenge and my hand held, that it would be unfair and no fun to be one shotted by a sneaking bandit with a bow and die with no warning. If, however, you are daft enough to front up to a dragon before you are ready, then bring on the reloading screen, serves you right.

Dragons and 12' giants should be scary as hell, that's all there is to it. Nothing wrong with having to turn tail and actually find a use for that dual charged healing spell either.

I'm hoping that being hit by a giant will be a big deal. Bear in mind, though, that despite his boosted stats the character only had a Heavy Armor skill of 16, and also that just as in the Oblivion and Fallout 3 demos it's quite clear that Todd Howard svcks at his own video games. (Seriously, two hits from the giant and one from the mammoth that he didn't even try to block?)

Well he was talking at the same time...

And I recall him saying that the system of enemy leveling will be a mix between Morrowind and Oblivion - in what way I have no idea.

I think he's being hit there by multiple enemies, there were 2 giants and 2 mammoths at least and they probably act as a group.

He wasn't playing live; that demo was prerecorded. For all we know it wasn't even Todd playing. Also I'm sure the Bethesda design team were aware of everything going on in the demo, so if the PC didn't block a move, that was most likely intentional. Why they would want to do that is unclear, but there are definitely some possible explanations (wanting to show of player impact reaction animations, not ready to show off player blocking animations and/or enemy recoil animations, not wanting to block the screen with a shield, etc.).

Oh... sweet god no. NO YOU BETTER NOT!

You do realize, that level scaling in and of itself is not the problem don't you? The problem with it exists when you take it to Oblivion levels.

BTW: I doubt that when Skyrim is released that we'll be able to have that much health or magicka. The kind of health and magicka displayed, is most likely for demonstration purposes only.

They boosted the player for the demo so he doesn't die 100 times. They did the same thing for the oblivion demo. It's not like that in game.

Why? The demo was pre-recorded. There's no need to beef up the character.

Well, either way, he was beefed up. Notice that his health is 999/999.

Have to keep in mind that the hero character was wearing weak leather/fur armor (+ iron helm). So giants and dragons will obviously do lots of damage vs that.

Well he'd still die even if it was pre-recorded :\. Presumably without beefing up the character one or two hits from a giant and the PC would have died.

I hope so.

I want giants and dragons to be significantly more powerful than I am when i'm low ranked, and for fighting them to be suicidal.

One hit from a giant's club when i'm low ranked and I should be dead. One blast of fire from a dragon at close range when i'm low ranked and I should be dead.

Maybe they made the health that high because the demo character is level one and they wanted to show off some high level areas without getting embarrassed by getting killed. Since they are the devs couldn't they have just enabled god mode? I know the demo is on 360 but the code for the console commands is still on the disc its just disabled.
