I've been replaying Morrowind and Borderlands. I also picked up Fallout 3 to see how the perk system works. Other than that I'll stay very busy with Shogun 2 Total War and Duke Nukem Forever. I'm also looking forward to Diablo III but it'll most likely be next year before it releases.

My plan - I just finished modding the crap out of Oblivion . . . it's been awhile since I have played it and with the hi-res textures and unique landscapes and new quest lines I think it will feel like a new game. My girlfriend games a bit but has never played any of the ES games. She doesn't really like the mouse/keyboard style controls so I bought a logitech rumblepad 2 for her and have mapped the buttons with Xpadder. Now she can play with the controller and I can play with the mouse/keyboard. Win/Win situation for us both!

That's my plan anyhow, but there are plenty of other games out now or soon to be released that would likely hold your interest for the next 10 months.

One game i'm surprised hasn't been mentioned that you should definitely try (if you have a PS3) is Demon's Souls. It's an amazing hardcoe RPG and even though i'm only half way through it, it's seriously challenging Oblivion as my favourite game. Not for the feint of heart though!!!

If you have a decent computer, Mount & Blade can be a significant time sink, depending on how much you like the combat. It is an extremely repetitive game, but it is very cheap and has a good amount of mods. Morrowind is also a must. Even if you don't enjoy it as much as Oblivion, it can easily occupy at least 100 hours of your time.

I just started reading George R R Martin's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire. The upcoming HBO series "Game of Thrones" will be based on these novels.

The first two books are amazing and I've also noticed a few interesting influences this series has had on the TES games.

I haven't been into fantasy novels much in the past, but these books are very well written, epic stories with compelling, realistic characters

These are indeed some great books. I read A Game Of Thrones over the summer and am currently making very slow progress on A Clash Of Kings. I wasn't aware that an HBO series was in the works. I'll definitely have to look into that.

I just started playing minecraft the other day after having so many people rave about it to me. I decided to give it a try and it has held my attention away from Skyrim for almost a week now. I am not sure how long it will last however.

PS3_DLC - funny you should mention DS. I am currently playing that as well. It is a great game so far. It is an RPG only to the extent that you can customize your character based on different skill sets, and they don't force you to complete worlds in any particular order. Otherwise it is mostly an action game, which is fine and enjoyable, but it is not sandbox style so I wouldn't say it rivals Oblivion for my favorite game ever. The enemies are crazy hard but it makes you think about how you approach every fight because rushing in will get you killed every time.

Great game though, and definitely worth playing.

Thanks guys. I'm probably gonna buy Morrowind today and see if i like it. I'm gonna see if Shogun 2 Total war works on my pc. I may pick up AC Brotherhood again if I can get into the story mode one more time. And if Morrowind gets old (yes bring on the flame :flamethrower: ) I'll get New Vegas.

BTW I partially want Morrwind so i could be a badass with a crossbow and spear along with destruction spells and darts.

OR maybe a stealth ninja with a shortsword and throwing stars.

OR maybe a staff wielding monk with healing and conjuration powers.

OR maybe a archer/hand axe kind of guy

OR...........

I think you will find that it is 'Cryogenic'.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryonics

Anyway, I say go for Morrowind. It'll keep you occupied well into November, at the very least. I wish I were in your situation--I've got no time to play games until the semester ends (or at least not involved ones like TES). :sadvaultboy:

you can try MW, i just tried it and couldnt get into it, it seemed to slow and outdated, people werent walking around things werent really happening but lots of people love it. i think the problem was i played OB first and then going backwards to MW just didnt work for me. im about to start another OB (started one a month ago and contracted vampirism and im a ps3 user and cant get rid of the curse)

playin oblivion with all exspansions on ps3 too.btw you can cure it with a special quest.but first you need 5 empty grand soul gems

What's horrible about it?
To me the game succeeds in what it is supposed to do.
Scaring you.(Turn the lights off and put the sound loud for maximum effect. :D)

Other than that I found the combat to be fun, and love the upgrade system.
Really there is nothing terrible about it imo. And it's at least worth a try.
And like I said, for a horror game it is strangely addictive.

Yeah, sure the first two levels are quite scary but then you get used to their same scaring tactics.Got boring after a while.Didnt bother even playing the last level trough.

Penumbra,Amnesia or Cryostasis are scary.Dead space just relies on cheap scaring BOO!.

If you liked Oblivion or Morrowind I'd strongly suggest playing Two Worlds 2, I heard the first game was horrible so my hopes weren't big for it, but it surprized the hell out of me. It's amazing, the environments are incredible, it has jungle, waist high grass and plants that move and bend when you run through them, the sun is insanely nice, you can sneak through the grass and backstab stuff, the water is wonderful with fish in it, tons of quests too. You can buy houses and even sail a sailboat (not that I've actually managed to sail mine yet, there's never good wind when I try :/), anyway definitely give it a try!

Here are some of the games I'll buy once they come out to hold me over until Skyrim (after I beat TW2) and after it comes out:

Dragon Age 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings
Crysis 2
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2: Retribution
Dungeon Siege 3
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
Red Faction: Armageddon
Diablo 3
Total War: Shogun 2

Hope this helps! :)

I'm just about to wrap up my Daggerfall and Morrowind saves, and by then Heroes of Stalingrad will be out. Between that, Heroes of Newerth, and my Guitar I should (hopefully) have enough to keep me occupied.

There are so many great games coming out this year I mean many og them will not be like TES but they are all triple A titles. I havn't seen so many promising games being releasd in the same year since 1998. Outside of that their is real life and its infinite challenges you can do as well.

I voted for morrowind, but you could go play some WoW, get your ass pwned by stronger characters to develop a hate against multiplayer games so when Skyrim comes out you can be totally devoted to it. :)

Play Daggerfall, Morrowind, or replay Oblivion. Maybe try out Arena just to experience it, but I never stuck with it. I just read Arena's story on http://www.imperial-library.info/content/tes-games-storyline so I was sure I wasn't missing out on anything. I'm currently playing all 3. :D

Planescape: Torment
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale 2
Baldurs Gate
Baldurs Gate 2
Neverwinter Nights
Neverwinter Nights 2
Diablo
Diablo II
Diablo III (If released before Skyrim. If after, buy it anyway).
Fallout
Fallout 2
Fallout 3
Fallout: New Vegas
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age II (When released)
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
The Temple of The Elemental Evil
Arx Fatalis
Divine Divinity
Gothic 1-3
The Witcher
The Witcher 2 (When released)
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (Really looking forward to that one, especially knowing that Ken Rolston, the lead designer of Morrowind, is making this).
Demons Souls (Assuming you have a PS3)
Dark Souls (When released)

These legendary RPGs should keep you occupied for at least 100 years. I extremely recommend Planescape: Torment by the way.

If you're really desperate and have completed all of the games above somehow, play Two Worlds 1 & 2. If you're REALLY desperate, then play Gothic 4.

If you haven't tried Morrowind, I would strongly recommend you do. Try to get it for PC. The GOTY Edition. Then go here and follow the steps: http://morrowind2009.wordpress.com/

If you do, and you have a decent PC, you will get a great experience with greatly enhanced visuals (imo.)

Be prepared to lose a lot of the interface and navigation conveniences from Oblivion, though.
