Sometimes i hate having NV for PC

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 9:10 am

I dont know if anyone else has this problem. Got my daughter down for a nap about an hour ago, came on comp ready to play NV, and decided, hmm lets see what new mods are out. A hour later still looking and downloading MORE mods.

PC users you sometimes find yourself looking at mods more then playing the game?

Disclaimer:
Not hating on consoles either.

I know what you mean, it's too tempting but at least we have mods to keep us occupied til we get dead money, I feel sorry for ps3 players. I hope we don't have to wait a year.

Kind of mixed emotions about this...
I have NV on my laptop AND 360. When I play on the PC, I do spend alot of time searching for good mods, sure, but when I'm on my 360, I just don't care. Mods aren't too great really

I've felt that way before on FO3. Too many mods too little time. But I would rather have too many mods, including ones that address problems with the game and improve balance, than have too few mods i.e. none.

I have this exact same problem, but it is much better that the alternative. Same thing happened for me with Oblivion and FO3 as well. In fact I've never even beat Oblivion, mostly because I would keep finding awesome new mods and would want to start over. Now I think I'm going to go check for some more mods, and then maybe actually play a little NV :)

I agree I often can spend too much time looking at Mods (or trying to figure out which mod is causing the problem).

Still FWE doubled how long I played FO3.
WMK was so good they included weapon mods in to FONV.
Puce Moose's FO3 adventure mods where wonderful.

Someguy2000's New Vegas Bounties I and II are looking to be on the same level.
WME - Weapon Mod Expansion is nearly as good as WMK, and I know Antistar is working to bring WMK to FONV.

And I'm not even going in to how many mods are out there remove annoyances, provide fixes, and make the gaming experience every so much more fun (and less painful).

No, they're not too great. They're the greatest. :)

Even some of the simpler mods can make the game so much better. Fellout: NV completely changed the game for me by making night actually dark. Not only does darkness actually affect game-play now, but settlements look 100% better at night.

I check almost every day to see if MMM has been released yet. I kind of wish that I had waited until the GOTY version with all the DLC was released and stuck with FO3 until then. I love the game but cant bring myself to finish it in its vanilla form.

There's only a few NV mods made by others that I use (dance, companion sandbox, multi-companion based on CHA, and now the Boonefix), so I guess I don't have this problem. I sometimes look, but it's rare that I find any that actually fit me and what I personally want from the game, entirely. Usually someone's mod will do what I want but also something else I don't want, so ... the problem I currently have is I spend more time making my own little, simplistic, and probably largely inconsequential mods to get those slight tweaks I want, than playing the actual game. :D

I had that problem with FO3 mods, but not so much with New Vegas yet. It seems that most of the best mods that made FO3 that much better, either have not, or will not be released for NV. Admittedly, I have not been on the Nexus much lately so some may have come out and just don't know it yet.

What, you're actually meant to PLAY the game? Blimey, I thought it was just an excuse to spend months playing around with mods and then having to go through it all again when you have to reinstall your OS. Or your HD crashes. Or something.

Sad, but true. Also, FNV mod releases seem to be slowing down. Back around this time 2008 there were over three times as many FO3 uploads on any given day. Considering many popular mods haven't been ported to New Vegas yet, there should actually be more, not less. Hope it's merely a passing phase; interesting DLCs and superb mods kept me playing FO3 for almost two years. It'd be great if FNV continued the trend.

I find the database very useful. Say something is bothering me, like an irritating audio clip or some gameplay mechanic. I just do a few keyword searches and voilà! I have a tailor made game tweaked by myself and 100's of other people.
Seeing how you can never satisfy everybody now-a-days, this is the next best thing. I love the community and the creative force that make's this wonky game engine do amazing things. When one can finally be fully immersed in this medium, it's a great feeling... until something comes up you know you can change then it's back to the drawing board. There is a fine line between being satisfied and constantly tweaking the game. It's a fun balance though, when you get it just right.... for a few minutes.

Downloading and playing with mods is a ton of fun in itself. It's like that "brand new game" feeling hundreds of times!

Why would anyone hate the PC version?

We can mod.

We have a proper mouse interface.

We have the dev console.

We can troubleshoot the bugs ourselves.

i think that the disastrous launch of the game really hurt alot. i told my friend about the new updates but he doesnt feel like reinstalling it again when he has so many other games to play at this time. new vegas is a great game but bethesda and obsidian really botched it up with an early release. frankly im not getting to excited about skyrim for the same reasons.

I can only talk about my mods (FNNCQ, Time for bed, Iguanas). I don't want to simply port my mods to NV. It's a different game with a different mood and pace. It deserves it that I pay attention to this and don't make a simple port.

I am pretty sure other serious modders think the same and the development of the new things takes time.

Mods aren't too great really

i played FO3 on ps3 first...finished all of it...and then got the GOTY on ps3....finished all of it....played several time though...actually many many times

got PC version later when my ps3 died

a game i have already played many times though and then replayed for DLC many times thougth on PC suddenly its likes it new and i am able to play MANY MANY MANY time though....lasting literally all tha way up until about week or so before NV came out

now i know not everyone is tha same and maby i was toooooo into tha game.........but come on mods ='ed for me MASSIVE more game play for a game i already ran into tha ground and time for my money...so much so thinking back to tha ps3 and feeling like it was a total rip..........for content....crashing and freezing....get stuck cant get out of it.....ect ect ect

PC better all around.......you may take advantage of tha same benifits......but im pretty sure it still remains fact not just my opinion.....more for your money is better.........not to mention pc u can adjust things to fix game issues....and get yourself unstuck.....and like new with NV get rid of those invisable walls in spots where it dont make no sense....other than a lazy way for tha devs to attempt to kill tha sandbox awesomeness with linear trash....

and off tha subject for a sec...to tha devs.....LINEAR IS FAIL.........want me to not go to a place....well put something there a rock or a wall that u can see....dont just expect people to believe our character just wouldnt decide to go there with insults to our intelligence magical invisible fairy walls :P
