Sometimes I'm Just Damn Glad

Post » Mon Feb 15, 2016 7:43 am

Just played Fallout 4 few minutes ago. I was collecting Picket Fences magazines and they unlocked new items for me to play around. All of these unlockable items and bonuses reminds me of the old days.

I'm glad the unlockables didn't go like this common practice right after release day:

- Picket Fences 1 DLC: $2.99

- Picket Fences 2 DLC: $2.99

- etc

I'm also glad that I don't have to see BS like this:

- 1,000 caps: $2

- 5,000 caps: $9

- 10,000 caps: $17

- 50,000 caps: $95

So, thank you, Bethesda. Please never go that way.

agreed. I'll buy a game and DLC. even upgrades like armor or weapons DLC. But I won't buy in game things with real world money simply because I don't feel like looking for those common items within the game.

Like buy a leather bundle (200) for $2.99 USD lol. no way.

Although, the sisters over at ESO don't seem to mind so much ;)

I fully agree...especially since I can easily open the console and give it to myself for free. :)

But yeah, micro transactions are a real killer, and something I refuse to put up with for long. I remember playing FO Shelter and actually bought those damned lunchboxes once or twice, and said never again after that. To be fair, I didn't really much mind doing it for FO Shelter mostly because Beth had already released the game for free, and didn't mind showing a little support for that gesture. They easily could've charged for the game too, but didn't.

It's one of the main reasons I don't play ESO anymore. I have nearly 2 years, I was in the beta, in that game. I created a power base with a suite of maxxed out crafters and watched them slowly make the Crown Store the place to get things for real money, making my game based economy structure less worthwhile.

that is something I do take for granted on the PC and that is adding items through the console command.

It does make sense to charge for extra things not in the game if the game itself was free.

But the reason I never played ESO, WoW or even Final Fantasy Online was due to having to continually pay. no thanks.

I hear quite a bit of talk about the Second and Third Dragon Age Games, but the Paid DLC Ads built into DAO caused Me to Never purchase an EA Title again. I am glad Bethesda has not sunken to this low, even if I do have Horse Armor :tes: :fallout:

I agree. Though if it was a normal DLC with it`s area and quests and it allowed me to collect some more magazines there..I think I would be only glad. But I don`t like the idea of having to pay for any little upgrade...weapon, or armor, or a magzine. I have a hope they will make a big dlc for settlements.

Well as long as I could sell my in game caps back to them for real money. by the end of my first file I had like 120,000 caps. and I could find a use for an extra 100$ :)

See, now you've got it all wrong. For 120,000 caps, they might pay you $1.20, but for their 120,000 caps, they'd charge you $120.00. That's just the way these things tend to work out...never in our favor, but always in theirs.

I have a feeling most game companies are gonna realize that Micros are just plain unappealing to the fan base in 50 years.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

In fact after being active in different game forums for years, I can see there are people who just support blindly, which is no wonder why developers keep going worse from time to time because of these dumbos.

I doubt they would do that with the strong modding community they have! Modders make Beth games better for longer!

I absolutley love Bethesda Game Studios and ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks for this reason.

Minus The Elder Scrolls Online I'm very happy that they never add microtransactions to purchase in the video games that they publish and develop to sell.

I'll take it. So that's $0.00001 for each cap.

player.additem f 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Bethesda - You now owe me $100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.00

I'll accept a check, but I prefer direct deposit.

Microtransactions are cancerous, they are ery bad for people who are easily addicted especially those ih low incomes and families

On a serious note, I refuse to play games that require a continuous feed of money. DLC is fine. That's optional and it's not really a "pay to play" kind of thing in the same sense. I have friends who have gotten way too into the pay to play kind of games though, and it's bad. It can become an addiction. It can even be stupid little smart phone games that are free to download, but cost to do nearly anything else in the game. People can end up spending entire paychecks on these games. I have very little respect for the people that produce these kinds of games, because they know damn well what it's doing to some people. Obviously personal self control is a huge factor here. Plenty of people play them and have a strict limit of spending x amount of dollars on it per month or whatever, but not everyone has that kind of self control.

I can kind of go both ways as far as games like Everquest with monthly subscriptions are concerned. I still won't play any games that require subscriptions (I'm not much for MMOs in the first place), but at least with that it's less of a series of impulsive purchases throughout the course of a month adding up to hundreds of dollars when the credit card bill comes in. It's typically a monthly or yearly fee, which can actually be included in a budget. All of the freemium content for a dollar here, and two dollars there can add up quickly.

I'm fine with DLC too. As long as the meaning of the DLC goes back to its root: 'Add-on Content' instead of 'Disc Locked Content' or anything that basically turned the meaning into 'missing pieces'.

Honestly I'm not a fan of MMOs either but I can understand the need to pay subscription fees. They have to pay for the servers and that aint cheap plus they usually support their games longer and support needs moneys.

I don't have a problem with subscription fees, as long as the game meets a minimum standard of keeping me entertained for at least 1 hour per month / per dollar. I played WoW for years and now play Final Fantasy 14, having an MMo type game keeps me from buying other random crap that comes out just to stave off boredom. :)

Microtransactions for items that are otherwise unavailable in game annoy me quite a bit tho. FF has that now and with the subscription cost I get annoyed when they release something that looks good, but should be available in game cause thats what we are paying them monthly for.
