"Son of Skyrim" Fanart

Post » Sun Aug 22, 2010 4:50 pm

You betcha! :) But since this kinda stuff is a hobby, it will take it's sweet time. ;)
I don't know what to paint next, though. Maybe some of you got a nice idea?

very nice work, as for an idea...

how about a tavern brawl scene started by a nord and an orc, lots of people drinking and cheering as well.

it'll also help you practice on lighting due to the large number of different characters, objects and multiple sources of light (candles for example)

your pretty good, but remember there is always someone better and younger

seriously what sort of crap are you babbling about? Every artist knows how competitive it is out there but you are completely inappropriate. Exercise your ability to think before you type. "You are pretty good but don't get your hopes up, there are plenty of people in the world who could draw circles around you" seriously dude.. wtf.

Hey guys,

I recently did some Skyrim fanart and thought I might share it here. In fact, I started with this when the first pics of Dovahkiin were released. I never spent so much time on a picture before, but I had a blast painting it. Now I understand, that working at Bethesda must be the best job in the world.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4269907/Son%20of%20Skyrim.jpg

This is my planned first Skyrim character, btw, some kind of Nord scout. :spotted owl: This might change, though, because the Khajiit seem to be quite good looking this time, too.

Anyway, I'd be really grateful for any kind of feedback. I know there are some Character Art Devs here from time to time, and professional feedback would be friggin cool :).

I hope some of you enjoy, I know I did when I made this.

Cheers!

HOLY [censored], HOLY [censored], HOLY [censored]!

That's friggin epic! :P

Sorry, I can't critique that at all. It's just awesome o_o

Hell I can't even dream of drawing like that. Really impressive @ OP. I like it.

No, I'm sure he thought he was the best artist to ever walk the face of the earth. Seriously, don't be a [censored], his picture was incredible!

I'm sure all of us know there's a competitive landscape out there.

I don't know if you were trying to be helpful Swarley or thought the OP was comming off as too much of a big shot.

The OP was being pretty humble and downright chill though.

I don't see a reason for trying to put them down in any sort of way.

As for constructive criticism, well the OP welcomed it. Sounds like neither me nor you are all that good of a drawer at all.

Let alone artist.

Maybe some of you got a nice idea?

Ok, here is my idea. I can't find a picture of the pose but if you have ever watched the Colbert Report and at the end of the intro the eagle comes right at the screen with talons extended. Now imagine that pose with a dragon instead of an eagle. I'm going to go rip the image out of some video so you know what I'm talking about.

I came in here expecting it to look like a 13 year old drawing on some anime style Nord.

Needless to say you surpassed my expectations 100 fold.

Excellent work.

Absolutely amazing! As for suggestions on what you should draw next, I actually like nightcobra's idea, though it might be hard what with all the faces etc...

ps. He kind of reminds me of Techno Viking with the way he's pointing his finger (and he's a viking) XD

seeing as how bethesda hasnt posted a screenshot of an argonian and your drawings are just as good as screenshots :celebration:

Hey, no offense but, uh...don't quit yer day job.

Ahh, I'm just effin with ya. That's seriously epic, and somehow not cheesy. All my sketches, though detailed, look like a 8th grader drew them. A talented 8th grader, but someone who can't draw a "serious" picture as you've done here.

My ONE critique. The hilt of the sword. A http://www.a-work-of-art.net/pages/page04c.jpg style pommel would be obvious, but you may have been going for a minimalist, barbarian style, in which case I would still give it a wood/ivory grain detail, possibly a leather wrapping for grip.

But beautiful pose, nice armor, great background, etc etc etc

Wow, I'm still getting comments here. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to comment!

Hah, thanks for the picture. I guess it would look quite cool if there would be a cliff and a small guy standing in front of the dragon (maybe a mage casting a spell) :D.I certainly think about it.

Lol, thank you. I'd probably think the same. If I wouldn't have been happy with the picture myself (which is a very hard state for me to reach), I wouldn't have posted it here. I mean, I spent almost 3 months and could have posted it after week one, but it wouldn't have been worth your time :) (I hope it is now, btw).

Oh wow. Good job! That looks freakin' awesome.

Thanks :). I'm glad you like it!

Thanks for the comment! I must admit that the sword was not what I focused on in this piece. It lacks detail and might not be well thought of, looking at it afterwards. Thanks for pointing that out! :)

http://cghub.com/files/Image/002001-003000/2605/835_realsize.jpg

ps: funnily enough the guy being tackled is wearing a pretty similar armor to the nord dragonborn :P

That is brilliant. I try to do some photoshop art but I'm not anywhere near that good. Do you use a wacom? I want to get one.

@ Gstaff: haha, nice avatar. "I love listening to your piss-ant soldiers talk tough."

Oh yeah! That looks terrific. I'd probably take years to figure out how to draw such dynamic and cool stuff, though. :disguise:

Yes. I use the cheapes wacom in the world (don't know if that's actually true). It's called "bamboo" and did cost 80 bucks 2 years ago. But it has become my trusty weapon, for sure. For beginners it's totally ok to have a cheap one. I might get a better one if I can make my hobby to a profession one day, though, but right now I'm happy with it.

Sorry for pulling this out, but I didn't want to start a new thread. I've finished another picture. It's not necessarily Skryrim related, but I know that there are some Lich-lovers here in the boards :hubbahubba:. Feel free to check it out and leave me some thoughts!

Cheers!

First Picture:

I enjoy the details you put into it, especially the left arm with the veins 'popping out' from the muscular depth in the character.
Assuming thats a tattoo on the bicep of the left arm, Very well done with the veins going through it, I've seen people skip out on things like that with veins
and just put the tattoo there and call it something else. I also liked the detail you put in on the right arm, showing an equal amount of veins, it's always the small details that count, even the wisps in his hair, and the glare you can see reflect off his eye. Very well done.

...any tips?

Thank you! Well, do you use a graphic tablet? I would be pretty lost without it. Other than that it's mainly training, I guess. :hehe:
