Songs repeating back to back now

Post » Fri Dec 24, 2010 7:56 am

I've noticed as of the past few days that songs on the radio are starting to repeat the same song in back-to back fashion. I haven't been tracking it formally, but I noticed it three times in the last two days of 2-3 hour game sessions. I'm about 130 hours into the game, and black mountain radio is off the air. Mojave radio has played both Big Iron and Johnny Guitar in repetitive fashion, and NVR has played Johnny Guitar a blurb from Mr. NV and then Johnny Guitar again.

Of course this may happen more than I've noticed (and with other songs), since Big Iron and Johnny Guitar are a couple of the most notable songs in the playlist. If this is just a random streak, you'd think they would have put in some logic to prevent the same song from being repeated too quickly, and definitely not repeated immediately. Anecdotally, it appears that something has further broken the variety of song selection in FNV.

And as bugs go, this is small potatoes, except it produces even more Johnny Guitar when this game could actually do with much, much less Johnny Guitar.

You can get radio station extender mods on newvegasnexus. One of them "RNV extended" adds music to radio new vegas that is period correct, public domain, and will rework the shuffling a little (by decreasing the chance of an individual song being played at any time).

I got it myself because I was tired of hearing the same songs over and over. If you have fallout 3 there's even a version that will instruct you on how to move your fallout 3 music over so that is added to radio new vegas as well.

Thanks. Currently, I've avoided any mods since they block Steam achievements. Once I get all the achievements that can reasonably be obtained I will probably go with RNV Extended on my second "pure evil" play-through.

Yeah some of them include pretty good instructions for including your own music. I have some old marty roberts, elvis, buddy holly, and johnny cash records I got from my dad so it seemed like a good excuse to try recording them over my turntable's optical output.

Not all mods stop achievements..

I'm using a music mod and Veronica fix mod and I still get achievements.

Yeah you're right - it does look like my radio mods do not block achievements. Cool.

Actually, the extenders DO NOT fix this logic problem. This does: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37459. You can use alongside extenders. It is fully compatible.

Oh I only meant that you ended up hearing the title songs less often because of the larger song bank.
