Songs that'd fit nicely into Fallout 4

This isn't entirely true. The transistor was conceived in 1927 and first implemented in 1947. The divergence takes place "sometime after 1945" but is never pinpointed. For a transistor to be used in 1947, it would have needed to be developed prior to it.

What we do see is a world that's paranoid of nuclear war, therefore greater use of tubes is implemented and technologies that survived the war have tubes.

Now. As for beeps and other synthesized sounds- they are present in game via robots. So even if transistors weren't present in any capacity, those sounds still happened in the FO universe. All it would take is a musician to make use of them.

Lastly, as for older music being basic... classical music, big band swing and other forms of jazz are much more complex than 12 bar blues, which much of today's music is based on. If anything the vast majority of popular music today is much less complicated. It's highly repetitive and short.

Yeah, The Beatles are definitely not in unless Ringo and Paul are huge Fallout fans. And I won't make a Raider Radio station around the Beatles music genre anyway. But Iggy and The Stooges is exactly what I'd imagine a raider would enjoy listening to. See Search and Destroy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDNzQ3CXspU

Yeah I think you're missing the point. Fallout just pre-war is the future that people in the 50's thought it would be. Just look at the movies, science books, etc. and you can tell the game pulls their inspiration straight from those sources. Adding the 40-50's music just cements the deal.

OT, this song for sure.

Oh yea, love the 80's punk! Love The Exploited! Listened to them a lot when I ran with my punk rocker friends during the early 80's! :mohawk:

I only said Beatles, since it's closer to the Fallout musical theme, but yet not as tame as the current music. Oh early Rolling Stones could also be a great Raider radio choice!

Awesome song! Yea, totally fits!! :)

Having 30's-50's music is probably the most noticeable thing that separates Fallout from other post-apocalyptic games. It's like if they decided to not have John Williams' music in Star Wars 8. It would lose that sense of nostalgia and feelings that I've had with almost every Fallout game.

I mean released after 1961 which is what seems to be the point where they stopped making music... Well, maybe not stopped. But there aren't any of the artists from real life in the game after that point...

I am sure mod makers will find a way to add newer songs to the game, well except for consoles as I do not know how they'll get around the big copyright hurdle there. Then again, for console players, I guess we can just fire up youtube or something. :) I am not saying the music in Fallout 4 is bad, but sometimes I need something a little more recent.

This is true to some extent, but I believe Fallout 1 & 2 were a bit more influenced by modern sci-fi and culture and the music selections were just a small piece of the feeling they were trying to give you. Bethesda just really took the 50s style and built the whole radio music as well as the vacuum tube/golden age pop sci-fi technology aesthetic round it. I think it works though.

Here's some stuff that might fit:

Pretty Boy - Bip Bop Bip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kJGcRim81E

Bunker Hill - Girl Can't Dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlHO7OEzHQk

Gardenias - I'm Laughing at You https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30e3LOYe8dQ

Sportsmen - Sandstorm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1g_4WXBgko

Mary Hankins - Ants in My Pants https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEoLfmnmgbo

Link Wray - Ain't That Lovin' You Baby https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Myx3RTuPjnM

Bill Haley & his Comets - Caravan Twist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHubV7gFT64

Guitar Slim - Well I Done Got Over It https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcly6f4T9Xk

Wes Dakus & the Rebels - El RIngo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_0HlKYTTz0

Buddy Johnson - Goodbye Baby Here I Go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8c28rFLgj3s

Nice thread.

Actually, I've been compiling playlist that fits Fallout 4 character's background story a.k.a alone with dead spouse. :P

The additions would be:

- Mr. Lonely - Bobby Vinton

- Unforgettable - Nat King Cole

- You Belong to Me - Patsy Cline

- I Fall to Pieces - Patsy Cline

- Put Your Head on My Shoulder - Paul Anka

These tracks are going to hammer my protagonist's heart to dust. lol

These would be excellent. I'm guessing it costs a lot of $$ to license music to use in a video game, so I wonder if they are willing to spring for some new tunes? Really hope they add something new with the DLC. It has been suggested many times before about adding a quest to find new music for the radio station and I am all for that!
