Songs that'd fit nicely into Fallout 4

Post » Sun Mar 20, 2016 4:11 am

I've been making a list of songs that I think would fit nicely into Fallout 4. Don't get me wrong, I love the soundtrack; but hearing "it's a man" for the fifty millionth time gets annoying.

these songs were all released before 1961, please feel free to give any thoughts or criticism you may have.

Without further digression here is my list:

My prayer - The Inkspots

Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino

Will you Still Love me Tomorrow - The Shirelles

Ain't got a home - Clarence "Frogman" henry

Lavender Blue - Sammy Turner

Only You - The Platters

Smoke Gets in your Eyes - The Platters

A Kiss to Build a Dream on - Louis Armstrong

I'll be Seeing you Again - Vera Lynn

Since I don't have you - The Skyliners

Baby, oh Baby - The Shells

--------------------------------------------------------------------

This list is still growing, but I'd like some feedback. Thanks

I still think that none of them knew they were robots by mr. bungle fits well, considering the Institute. It's pretty avant garde, but relies heavily on 30's-50's musical sensibilities and the subject matter fits to a T. It's about being replaced by robots.

Honestly, I am sick of the 30s & 40s music that the Fallout history is stuck on. It's also completely out of place for the timeline. 1945 is when you would still here some of these songs and 132 years later in 2077, music has not progressed at all? Really? Bethesda needs to get out of the 1930s and bring the music into the 2050-2077 era.

To me, that why the song i mentioned is great. It plays off of those sensibilities, but is progressive as well.

But doesn't that fit in with the fallout universe as transistors were never invented. So music would be very basic not like today's music .

Since we advanced to proto-rock'n'roll and country already, I would love to see some slide guitar blues, honestly. I was disappointed to hear none added in, say, the swamps of Point Lookout already. What a missed opportunity...

I disagree.

The music and that particular mashup of 40s/50s culture with (by the way, also 40s/50s) trashy sci-fi look, is the very foundation of the franchise's art direction. Slaying fools to the even back then naively, sedatively optimistic big band tunes, is an extension of the eternal "wink" the games never stop giving.

For example, Deus Ex are fine games, and should be to my liking, but I really am not a fan of the overall balatant super-hi-tech style. So while it does ruin the games for me, I would never argue that they should change that into something different; since it's part of the series' identity.

I'm pretty sure that song was released after the time-line divergence thing.

I never turn the radio on tbh, and I turn off every radio I see that's on. Been doing that since Fallout 3.

I'll be chillin' here in Afterlife if anyone needs me. B)

Then don't listen to it. The music has and always will fit the setting.

It's been in the series since Fallout 1.

So was Crawl Out Through the Fallout, and a lot of NV songs. Nv and F4 also had so songs recorded just for the games.

Why The Kingston Trio's "MTA" wasn't included is a mystery to me.

Not true at all, there are a ton of electronics with transistors used all over the games.

Also, it doesn't take transistors to progress music style, Many musicians still use tube amps today because of the rich tones they produce. And back in the 60s and 70s, tube amps still dominated the music scene in our history.

Were they still playing 30s & 40s music in the 60s & 70s? No, not even back in the 50s. The music may fit because thats what they started with in the series, but that doesn't mean that it still isn't out of place and far behind the times when the world ended in 2077. Music would have progressed exponentially, as evidenced by our real history.

Your mistake is trying to use real world examples in a series that has always used it's own form of logic and science. If you want a more realistic series, Fallout isn't for you.

The music isn't out of place for this universe.

Are you serious? Heard of Burlesque or Cabaret? That's right up that alley which fits that timeline.

Not to mention, have you heard Skeeter Davis - The End of the World from Fallout 4? That song was around way back but yet, it could very easily be a singer/songwriter song today with a touch of alternative mixed into it.

No offense...but I was a studio engineer for a pretty good while and I've worked in the actual music industry...so I'm not just some guy who thinks he knows, I'm a guy who actually knows. I don't want to fight or argue about it though...so if you don't think it fits, then it doesn't fit.

However, all I said is I want to hear Broken Bones on Diamond City radio wandering the Glowing Sea.

I have often wondered if all musicians died during the great war. Why has there been no new music in the Fallout Universe in over 200 years? And then we get Magnolia! It's about time! I love all the original music that Lynda Carter added to Fallout 4! We need more like that!

Also, I would love to listen to this song, while sitting on my Spectacle Island balcony, watching the sun set over the ocean:

@ Sunnie: Sure, music may have progressed, but anything that is added to Fallout should still have roots in the 40's/50's. Fallout is all about that era, it's the basis of this series and it shouldn't change! Fallout and 40's/50's music goes together like Apple Pie and Vanilla Ice Creme! :D

That's true, but I'm also arguing against your opinion. It is a discussion after all.

Your opinion may be that the music doesn't fit the series and is out of place, but every game in the series (besides Brotherhood of Steel, but every fan as well as Bethesda rightfully ignores that abomination) contradicts that statement.

They definitely should have had more radio stations. They need the blues and jazz as staples of the time period music they like to use, but should have a raider station that plays 70-80s era punk / hard rock.

Really was hoping for some Iggy Pop, Miles Davis and Howlin Wolf.

Just no [censored] disco.

Oh that would be cool, a bad ass Raider station that would play The Beatles (50's parents were mortified by the "new sound"). But I bet it would be really expensive to buy the copyrights for just even ONE Beatles song. Remember, Bethesda can't just play any song. They have to buy the rights, if it's not under public domain.
